Thanks Guys. I will be in the shed friday morning. Really appreciate.    :drinks: Doug

Well Friday came round and so did the rain, not to be detered jumped on the bike and trundled off up the road to Dougies place about 50mins up the road, the rain was ok didn't really start till just before I got there.
Spent about 5-6 hrs there working on Dougs bikes doing his front suspension front brakes and engine mounts on No1 bike, then did the engine mounts on No2 bike now the PO must've been an absolute tool because he couldn't get the bushes out he reversed 2 of the bolts and put dob of weld on the end so the bolt didn't come out.
KNob head didn't even tighten the bolts up were pretty much only finger tight , one space need the special tool to get it started then was able to drive it out the 2nd bush practically fell out. All greased and re installed and tensioned correctly, Thanks Harvy  :yahoo:
The ride home was a shocker, bucketed down all the way  home my normal 45 to 50 min run home took 1hr 45min as some idiot had smashed his car on the Gateway and police had closed it to all traffic, as per usual once passed the closure the traffic returned to normal but was pissed as all the idiots in their tiptops were s busy rubber necking added to my trip home in the rain, and I was saturated when I did finally get home  :ireful:

With all this engine mount greasing going on recently I am curious to know why nobody seems to think it's worth 5 mins / $5 to put grease nipples in. There is a rebate in the centre of the bush that is ideal for uniform lubricating through a single point.

somewhat stuffed atm, waiting on technical advice as my 90 degree fitting for my drill is too big to get in between the sub-frame, headers and barrel .   :dash1:

I agree Noel, nipples are the go. Didn`t want to take on something new with limited tools at hand and heaps of kilometres ta home for the partygoers. Once I`ve nippled my first one I know I`ll regret not having done it earlier.

Can`t get over how a bit of shit bagging and comraderie progressed my FJ education. The objective was more social than functional and surprised at how much mechanical was achieved. I think there are a lot of blokes like me that live in awe of the talent on this forum while yearning ta have a little play for themselves or at least a look see.

Wrapped in my new torque wrench, enjoyed a Brissie catch up by returning the Forks Horse left behind (luckily he didn`t have ta wheelie all the way home!) and pleased Baldy returned for my remedial education.

Lateley I`ve been sending a lot of questions to Randy. Isn`t it great he never sleeps!  I`m so pleased he keeps my "Dickhead" status confidential. – many thanks to ya.
Absolutely bucketing down here (and most of the East coast).  :yahoo: Those twisties will be clean & tidy with forests of Green for Bellingen Valley in 5 weeks. Looking forward ta inspecting the FJ1200 Aussie race car in the petting area. (Rumour is we`ll have a Bugatti for FJ`s 30th Anniversary Rally in 2014!)

Ummm... storm warnings out, so no Australia day weekend surf today.....Can`t mow tha lawn....guess I`ll have ta mope around tha shed...(He hehee)

Doug, I know you have a hankering for a sidecar and I've seen how much rain you've had up there.
Perhaps the manshed could produce and FJ version of this:

I greased my engine mounts a few days ago and was thinking of your nipple idea while doing it.  On the the face of it, a brilliant idea.  But now that I've actually done it and know what I'm doing and why, the next time will be very quick and easy.  Sure, it won't be as quick and easy as a squirt or two of the grease gun into a grease nipple, but by taking the extra few minutes to unbolt and take the collars out I can inspect them and be sure that they are clean and actually slide and rotate freely.

Checking anything on a bike anytime is a good idea but if they are sufficiently lubricated and the grease is replenished periodically there is no need to check them. Nobody ever removed the kingpins (hardened shaft in a bronze bush) from their car to grease them, they just pumped new grease in. The nipple also guarantees 100% coverage.

Yes it is a good Idea but having seen the condition of some of the sleeves, I'd rather check also as the front bolt is unable to be greased its still a good idea to pull it out and check it and clean any road grime  from it. Just my opinion....... I do like your idea the PO of My bike in the US has had nipples placed on the rear suspension which allows for greasing of all the brearings  :good2:

I agree with most of what you've written, although I'm a bit sceptical about the nipple guaranteeing 100% coverage.  In any case I'd still prefer to check and grease them manually.

I did my motor mounts on the 19/01/2010 and am in the next few days putting in noels nipples

I will be interested to see how the mounts look as I have not looked at them since and I have put on more than a few all weather k's.

For me it makes sense and will make it easier to wack a bit of grease in more often.

The important thing is that you do them in the first place.  :dance2:
