I will be in for at least a portion of this ride, depending on dates. I can advise on the peak to peak highway ride out of Estes Park. It's a beauty. There are several different routes from there, all winners.

I would be interested in areas in the southern part of the state, if possible, as I have plans for my return trip back home, to go down into New Mexico, then across to the pan handle of Oklahoma, then up through Kansas.
Was Gunnison a good location last time?

Either way, I'm ready to GO!

Shit, the more I think about it, the less I can wait......COME ON WARM WEATHER!!

So kids, what's happening with this?  It's getting to be time to make vacation plans.  :mail1: Is this a 'go'?  Do we have a a location yet where a group of FJ ruffians would be welcome?  Tick-tock ...  :mail1:

There's not much in the southern part of the state worthy of a rally location.  We vacation in Pagosa Springs every year and after taking the bike with me the first year, I now just leave it at home.

There are a handful of good roads, but unfortunately, they are main roads and are usually loaded with locals, tourists and LEO.  If you don't get stuck behind a train of motorhomes being held up by a bunch of oblivious Harley riders, you'll probably spend hours sitting in a road repair/construction backup.

I've heard good things about the Gunnison area, but I could never make it that far on a one-day ride due to the above factors.  Since it is a family vacation, it's not really fair for me to spend most of it away from the family (at least that's how the wife feels :-)

Right you are David!  I grew up in Durango and spent many a college night with a girlfriend at the Pagosa Hot Springs - back in the day you used to be able to carry a 12 pack of beer in with you and set it right beside your pool of choice!

You need to be above Durango towards Silverton or above Dolores towards Telluride before the roads get good.  And yes, even then they are main highways.  I thought Gunnison was a great place to have a rally - I planned it afterall!  Highway 149 from Gunnison to Creede is a FANTASTIC ride!  The ride from Gunnison to Silverton (for those who have never done it) is just an amazing experience....true you can't get too sporty on that ride - but that's not the point of it.  Our stopover at the Ouray hot springs was priceless.

MAybe I should reword what I said.

Gunnison sounds good to me, I just meant that my own personal return trip to Iowa would include the jog south, then back up through Kansas, so that part of "MY" trip has no real bearing on what we do as a group.

Sorry for the misundersatanding, guys.

I went through the Silverton -Ouray bit not too long ago, they were resurfacing it.
Slumgullion Pass was just about to get resurfaced too.
That "Black Canyon of The Gunnison" road is really good too but I've never seen more deer on any road in the U.S.

Fluffy loves a hot tub in a most unhealthy and obsessive way.
It's truly a worry.

Wasn't this just before Henry gave the local LEO a heart attack?

I love the climb out of Ourey.  You can really pass a lot of traffic on those 180 degree turns.

Yep, directly before Henry's 90+mph blazing pass.... absolutely priceless, a timeless classic.......

OK guys I'm blocking out Aug 13th and 14th for the rally.  Cheers!

OK WHO'S in CHARGE HERE....

Is this a Rally w/ dates of 12th-14th or are we still in the discussion stage? Has anyone contacted a KOA or another place to hold the Rally? Summer is fast approaching and places will start to fill fast.

I'm in for anytime for the first 3 weekends of August.

With all the recent talk of the Rallys, either just finishing up, or upcoming, does anyone have any updates to the Colorado Rally?

I failed to find anyone in Boone who was sure this was even going to happen...            :scratch_one-s_head:

Is this a dead issue?
If so, I'll make plans for Tellico Plains.

Either way, I have to get a ride in a Rally this year and meet some of you clowns! LOL!
