Is it time to build another Colorado Rally for 2011?  I'm thinking mid or late July 2011.

We've been to Gunnison and could do it again, or we can move north closer to the I-70.  Selfish in the sense that I would like to cover some new roads and see more of the state.    I'm figuring if 3 or 4 FJs show up, it is an official rally.   I think Alan is with me  in concept, so we only need 1 more, but we all know the more the merrier!

Are we tied to the KOA concept?   I think we are tied to a fire ring and dirty big drums, but I'm not seeing a KOA in the less touristy areas that also have good roads for daily loops.   Could go north to Walden and include some WY road scenery.

Anyone in the area with suggestions, I'm eager to hear them!     Post up, we are looking at a year or less...   :mail1:

Stop leaving it all to Fluffy, you lot are carrying on like a buncha helpless old molls.
One of you say:

  • Right, there will be a rally in Gunnison Colorado on such and such a date.

I don't recall anyone asking Marsh to set this up...

June 17,18,19, 2011 would be a great time for a Colorado Rally.  This will not comflict with any other FJ rally. Estes Park area has lots of nice places to stay along with good riding.

Point taken, and it would definatly get the ball rolling, but first, I know my place here as a newbie and I don't intend to step on the feet of others that have far more experience involving Rallys.
I'm sure that there are those of you out there that made the trip back in '05 and know the lay of the land and what worked and what didn't, to make suggestions for next year.

I kick myself in the ass for not being a part of this great group back then, but I can only move forward at this point and do what I can do to help see this one through.

I'll be honest that my only thought of Marsh was that I  saw he wanted to know if the North East Rally was going to happen and get the info out there for people so plans could be made, and that made me realize that the same was needed for the Colorado Rally.
So I keep bumping this topic to keep ideas flowing with people that are more in the know than myself.

I put all my faith and respect into the people who have come before me and look to them for guidance, but that doesn't mean I expect Marsh or anyone else to "do it for me".

Sorry if this is too diplomatic for some, but I feel that my place is to learn before lead, and if you can't tell, I spend aot of time online here playing catch-up reading and viewing all the great Rally videos to hopefully start to get to know some of you.

That seems a litte too close to the West Coast rally for some that might want to go to both of them.
2 rallies in less than 2 weeks?

Nope.. Too close to the west coast rally.

For us west coast folks it needs to be later.  Say July or August.  Besides June is still to early to head east out of Oregon.  Likely to hit snow in the passes.  For this years WCR, I rode from Portland to Grants Pass in rain and 45 degree temps.

Well, lessee... with the ECSR in May, the WCFJR in June (IIRC), and the ECFR in September (is there gonna be a 2011 NEFJR?), it seems like mid-July to mid-August would be most ideal, but that's just me.  That's probably the best weather time for the High Country, though.

Which is why I said this a page or two ago...  so is it about time for a poll and/or head count?

And we still had to hit 130 mph to catch you,,,

Actually, I created the "2011 Colorado Rally Discussion" master category a couple of days ago (which we are posting in now) with the other rallies and moved this thread into it BECAUSE I want the CO rally to happen!  I have kept quiet on the topic because I'm not sure if I will be able to make it - no matter what the date (I'm a work-at-home-dad babysitting my 9 month old son during the day - this makes my vacation time per year a bit limited).  My opinion is that if I can't attend - I shouldn't be sticking my .02 cents in.  Anyway - as soon as I see something firmed up - I will add it to the FJRally website and change the categories here to reflect it.

I grew up in Durango Colorado and am VERY familiar with the state.  The Gunnison rally was a pretty good compromise of a lot of different factors.  It worked out well at the time with a nice mix of fun and roads.  I'm sure that with the current CO locals throwing in their input - that you guys will come up with something good!

If it helps, here is the old rally page with the ride maps that we did back in 2005:

Thanks Marsh, I understand the need to care for young ones, but I am on the other end of that, as my youngest is now weeks away from his 18 birthday, it's time for this daddy to RIDE!
Your input is what is needed here and I thank you.
I personally see this rally taking place in August to spead it out across the summer, mixed in with the other rallys.
I would so love to make the West Coast Rally, as well as at least one of the East Coast Rallys, but I would need some down time between them as well as getting back to work and save up for the next one.

I've been studing the Colorado trip and I think I could iron-ass it in one day, and I am committing myself, even if it means I ride alone. I ain't getting any younger!

I say it is time!
I vote for the August time frame.
Seems there are a couple others liking this, so speak up.

Well.. yeah.. I wasn't a Popsicle anymore.. thankfully the sun came out and I was able to warm up once I hit Grants Pass.. Must purchase a electric jacket liner this winter..   Wouldn't have been so bad if it had been in the 50's, but mid to low 40's was a bit much..

Ha!  Got caught in a unexpected (and un-prepared for) snow storm on that road on my FJ with a buddy -he on his VFR750.  By the time we realized we had to exit, it had started to accumulate.  We were riding in at least 1" of snow and did not drop the bikes.  I was so pumped!  Scared the hell out of me though.

Ahh the memories (of nearly, [but not]) dying.
