Hi.
Since i am planning to do some work on my 86 FJ1200 this winter, i thought i might keep all you FJ maniacs in the loop
With a full time job and being a dad to two small ones (2,5 yr and 6 weeks:-) It's not always i got time on my side.. Guessing some of you might relate?  :mocking:

This is the first picture i took after removing the saddle etc. All fairings will be stripped off as i want it repainted. Probably gonna order new fairings instead of all the work prepping them for paint..

After removing the windscreen, which by the way was cracked i discovered something funny with the fairing or cowling if you want.
There's an inner cover that surrounds the speedometer etc. which the fairing is covering on top. On each side you have thees "bars" (don't know what to call them) sticking up for the attachment of the windscreen.

One of thees bars has either been glued together or melted.. Either way it seems like it has to be cut i order to get it of.

Looks like some hasty plastic repair. Get used to repairing plastic, the special 86/87 bits are no longer aval new. You can get things like the front fender but the upper fairing and lower chin are rare as hens teeth. If you find them new anywhere, but up the entire supply and offer it to the club. You will have buyers.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I stumbled across this fairing hanging from the ceiling of the local motorcycle salvage joint in Garden City, Idaho. I don't work there and have no involvement with there business I just spotted it hanging up there. It is probably still there if anyone wants it.

Yes and not a good one either. I am thinking about replacing the hole upper fairing with one from the guys from motorhead,  Spain.

Hi again.
The pictures took a while longer to get them uploaded. Been preoccupied with kids, exams and work so there has been little spare time to work on the bike.
There will be a lot of pictures in this post, so you are warned. :good2:

I finally got my new forks in. The were used ones and seems to be working good. Some cosmetic issues on the bottom, but i think that i could work something out

I swapped my old 86 forks in, end got this for free!! Couldn't say no to that!

Ok, old parts will often look dirty, and used. That's normal, but this seem almost over the top. Had to wipe of debris before the pictures...

I have also decided to order a new topfairing from fairings.net. An while I'm at it i also gonna order a lower fairing too.
Since the bike is gonna bee painted it saves me the sanding down work :-) Not only that, but the topfairing is showing evidence of old repairs, and some brackets is no longer there.
I am considering to get rid of it, but not before i am able to order the new ones.
Anyone interested?

Here are some pics of the fairing.

Cheers.

Surely the cosmetic issues you speak of comes from splitting all that wood.

Hehe...
Splitting wood with a fork does leave a few marks..  :good2:

On those fork lowers; use some paint stripper to remove the clear coating then take them to a powdercoater and get a nice sliver/grey finish put on them.

It's been a while since a posted my progress, must admit I've been a bit lazy lately.
After some issue with the wrong rims, if finally got the right ones today. Meanwhile since my last post i have gotten new brake pads and rotor, and some nuts and bolts and other accessories.

Have taken allot of pictures and have uploaded some. Will post them later.

Cheers
