I am seriously considering swapping the FJ11 head on to my FJ12 while I work on the other bike.
I did not see where RPM offered something along the lines of the Cometic upper end gasket kit - Did I miss it?
It's that FJ1100 head that's had some work done to it, with different cams, and would also want opinions on valve springs (replace? they are aftermarket) and carb jetting (Megacycle stage 1 cam and Yoshi 4-1 header).
It sure runs well as it is, no complaints.

We do not use cometic gaskets on the head or the base gasket unless it is a big bore build above 1250 and even then we still use the Yamaha base gasket.

Head gasket
Base gasket

We use these Performance Valve Spring Set

and we only use Webb cams now. The last 3 or sets of megacycle cams the weld and grind was junk and started to become pitted after a few thousand miles. Shoot me a PM, email, or give us a ring if you want cams. We are still a Megacycle dealer and a Webb cam dealer.

Hopefully these cams are good, they were made in the 1980's, not new ones.

Crap.......

Should be fine especially if it has been running with them and no problems yet. We hadn't had problems with the Megacycle until the last few years.

I misread and thought you were gonna have Megacycle ones welded.

Thanks for your help today, much appreciated.

Had a nice ride to work today, great motorcycles.

I look forward to what's coming, thanks again.

Are you planning on using the dual pod filters with the rs-38 carbs?I have to use unipod filters with my flatslide because the fuel lines run between carb one and two down to the tee that splits to the dual feed fuel lines.

I'm using them with the stock carbs and jetting supplied by Robert.

Budgetary reasons, flats slide are still on the shelf..... Safe and sound

I have some questions on the cam sprocket marks, slotted sprockets, differnt placement than shown in the service manual.

Once I am off this POS Kindle and back on a pc I'll post my questions.

Thx!

The manual seems to state the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets should be "outboard" yet I seem to have one "inboard" -
Being aftermarket slotted sprockets, maybe this is correct or is the exhaust cam 180 out? The upper alignment holes on the camshafts are on top - ???

I now have plenty of practice with the cam chain adjuster. The spring feels plenty tight. Plenty tight.

Those are not aftermarket gears. They appear to be stock gears someone modified to slot.  And, yes, it looks like the exhaust side is 180 out.

Also, if you are running the stock coils and ends you need to remove those park plug tips so the smaller threaded tip is showing. The stock ends do not lock onto the tip that is currently on their properly.

I thought something looked odd -

What is strange to me is the ID holes that needed to point "up" when the cams are installed are "up" - Maybe that is just for installation?

Can the gears be installed 180 off?

The original owner was in the middle of modifying the bike for a turbo, it was in the middle of a lot when he passed away, who knows.....

Do you suggest I buy new sprockets or are those going to be OK?

Oh - He was running Accel coils and wires, that why the plugs have the tips on them.

The gear can be installed 180 out.

Before they were making slotted cam gears. We would see alot of the stock cam gears people would slot, mostly on race car applications. They had a tendency to slip for whatever reason and go out of time. Could have been they didn't clean the burrs up from grinding them out or holes were too large or whatever the case was they would slip.

Yes, the Accel and the Dyna coils need the spark plug ends like you have. Stock need to be removed.

When at TDC both cam holes should be in the window on the cam cap. and the gears should be in line with the case facing outwards on both gears.

Thank you - The cam holes are both in the window (or super close) so I'm assuming the sprocket is 180 off.

Hopefully I have more time to work on it sooner rather than later

Much appreciated!
