Manshed day in Nowra

I remember those. They tried speed cameras in Texas several years back. They worked pretty good but the maintenance cost was extremely high. Seems every time they got them fixed someone (not me) would shoot them out again. Made damn fine targets. No more speed cameras. We do have a few red light cameras at stop lights.  Dave

I had a "pleasant" (not) surprise in the mail on Friday - A demand from the state revenue theft department suggesting i had traversed a fixed speed camera above the stautory snail pace demanded by our uber zealous local state department responsible for removing the fun out of life.

$112 and 1 point for 72kmh in a 60 zone on the Princes Highway from the Sunday ride home. its interesting that if had been a mobile constabule unit it would have been 3 points. Go figure...........??

Jools, where was this? In Nowra the only fixed cam is in a 70 zone.....

It was on the Princes Highway car park - somewhere between Kirawee and Kogarah. I was surprised as I thought i took it easy through this unfamiliar area - must have loaded them up for Christmas !

Kogarah would be the one Jools, none before this, changes from 70 to 60 a couple of hundred metres before the cameras, its also School Zone.
I go past that one daily and I have seen it go off up to 3 times while waiting(parked) in traffic one afternoon.

Texas sounds like they have a good solution to the cameras

Travelling to the recent Manshed day in Nowra, I punctured my tyre with a twig in the worst possible place at the worst possible time. (between Khancoban and Jindabyne at dusk) I did not pass a single vehicle for the entire trip and the traffic would only get lighter as it got dark. The entire area is National Park and uninhabited.

With no phone signal and zero degrees forecast overnight, I chose my options carefully. I considered the twig too big to plug and was not going to risk removing it, so I left it in there and stopped every 30 minutes to pump up the tyre. The remote tyre pressure monitor let me keep an eye on it. I would have been stuffed without a compressor.

Next morning I hunted out the tyre shop and he was happy to remove the tyre and fix it.

The axle for some reason was difficult to remove and I watched nervously as he exchanged hammers for heavier ones. I saw what I thought was the hammer glancing off the muffler a couple of times but then forgot about it...until today!

Finally cleaning my bike after the trip I noticed this:



As you can see, the axle is well below the muffler.

He also snapped off one of the chain oiler nozzles but I noticed that at the time.

Having gone to so much trouble to keep them looking good all these years it's very disappointing to see them damaged so needlessly, not even a good story or a limp to go with it.

The last time someone else worked on one of my vehicles it was the bike shop rebuilding my Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub when I was 12. Hopefully it will be another 50 years before anyone else touches my machines again.

mmmmm.....Mate, that looks almost impossible!   Unless you left your luggage attached and it`s cantilevered well past the rear axle.

Oh....make sure you always use grease whenever inserting that long bolt. (I hate it when he demands to be hit with someth`n harder!)

   Got my FJ ready for another dyno run. Fitted new timing chain, new drive chain and sprockets and increased main jets size by 2 sizes. Will be interesting to see the difference. I know at least 2 others were also thinking about doing the dyno run so let me know if you're still interested. Early January would suit me but I'll fit in with others if necessary.

Ray, I've been getting ready for March since last March. Got a new set of tyres sitting in the shed, just need to wear the rest of the remaining tread
from the PR4's.
   Speaking of punctures, I had my first one, since I started riding again, back in November. I've probably done the best part of 100,000 km's and only one flat tyre. Amazing how good today's modern tyres are. I remember back in the late '70s and early '80s having punctures fairly regularly.
   March will be here before you can blink so start getting ready now. Looking forward to catching up with you all and meeting some new faces.

There is going to be a spike (no pun intended) to the amount of flat tyres those on the list will get after all this chat about how long it's been since we had a flat.
If I get one on my way to the rally in March I'm going to sit by the road until one of you come along and fix my tyre.

I just saw a "Tyre Power" ad on TV. It featured a few of their franchisees from around the country, the last one from Jindabyne, the bloke that belted the dents in my muffler.

Now I'm going to think about it every time the ad comes on.

I have the swing arm out at the moment for machining to get the new shock in but the shed has been like a sauna so I'm waiting.........

Besides just got back from NZ xmas with the inlaws...............phew! made it.
