Sort out my snort-back-through-the-carbs, won't-idle-for-shit issue. Been through 'em 4 times; satisfied that they're scrupulously clean. On to ignition possibilities (possibly weak coil).

But it's too frikkin' cold in Illinois right now.

Now that the New Year is upon us it is time to do those repairs and modifications we have all been slacking on.
This is my list , What is Yours?
To do the usual to an FJ when you pick one up. Something that's a little easier after I've done it to two others already.

In this case my latest acquisition from last Autumn. A nice '85, but needs to be gone through thoroughly.

And I would like to put some nice Old Skool aftermarket handlebars that I've had for a couple of years on my '87, that is bedecked with other Old Skool items...

Direct from the Fatherland, Telefix handlebars with a lot of adjustments on them. Not really sure if they are unobtainium or not, but I haven't seen them before on an FJ here...

The '87 awaits its newest adornment...

Happy New Years fellow Mother FJers!  :good2:

I put a couple hundred hard miles on the FJ on Saturday, and I am starting to get creaking from the shock linkage.  Time to pull that apart and lube everything, maybe even remount the shock so that the reservoir fits under the seat rather than being hose-clamped above the rear footpeg.

My original clutch master began to leak from the plunger, with fluid coming out at the lever.  I ordered a used FJR unit with adjustable lever to match my brake master; it arrived yesterday.  I may go downstairs and knock that out before dinner.

Later this winter, I will safety-wire the oil filter and the fill and drain plugs, and then start looking for track days I can sign up for.  I live 45 minutes from Road Atlanta and I work 15 minutes from Barber, passing 30 minutes from Talladega Gran Prix between them.  I found a pair of Vanson pants to match my jacket last fall (Klavdy Style) and my wife got me a GoPro for Chanukah, so I will By God do at least one track day this spring.

After I get the Ducati and get acquainted with it enough to where I feel like I can trust it, it's time to pull the FJ motor.

The picture with Biker Toad in it is from last Autumn. Biker Toad actually put on a number of pounds after his picture was taken. Biker Toad is currently burning through his fat reserves while hibernating.

2015 Plans....have been underway since Speed Week at Bonneville rained out...

The 84 dragbike will remain mostly neglected for the year.  It will end up with a "new" motor and get all of its suspension pieces back again by the end of the year though.

The 89 streetbike will get to have a few split personalities this year -- commuter, street/strip bike, and (weather cooperating) land speed racing at Bonneville.

2015 plans are as follows.
1. Repair the small oil leak on the FZR 1000. Reassemble , new tires, and a new battery.
2. Install yzf600r front onto the 90FJ, otherwise known as Black Betty. Repair clock wiring, replace blown bulbs in dash, and install new tires. ( thanks to "the fan" for setting up the forks)
3. New chain sprockets and tires for the newly acquired GTS 1000. Repair small crack in side case.
4. Have frame powder coated for the 84 rest modification, and begin reassembly.
That's it!! I should have plenty of spare time.

PaulG

1. Buy and install new chain
2. While the swing arm is off, inspect/lube all bearings
3. Fix chin fairing and remount
4. Buy and install the Scott auto chain oiler
5. Fiddle and Fart around and maybe drink a beer while looking like I'm seriously pondering something that will cause me to drink more beer and ponder some more
6. Buy new bits'n'bobbles that I will inevitably lose while "pondering"

That should take me until May or so.... :shok:

... 2015 plans........ my FJ, has been idle for several months now. but I've been working on it, a little bit at a time.

            Done!!!
new battery
lowered the sub frame.... [the sub frame, is sitting on heim joints].... hoping for better handling
lowered the handle bars from 1 1/4inch to 2'inch's below the triple tree.
removed the gen/alternator to sand, polish and wax.
removed the valve cover to polish and wax... again
removed the header to repaint.

           in process!!
soaking the carbs. .......... [they have been sitting, with old gas]
I know this subject has come-up many times......
and I do have a extra FJ motor.... So, I am using that oil pan. To create a new drain plug. So, I do not have to remove the V/H's header, when changing the oil.......... I have it all planed out. I just hope it works.

FOR 2015 ?
Case guards and highway pegs.
Then ride the tires off it before they get too old.
I rode the Venture to WVa last spring. It was great getting there and coming home in a hurry, but not so much fun on the mountain roads. This year: take the FJ..
or sell it.
