I know Noel, I have been slack,  :empathy2:

Tell you what, this is a good reason for changing the fluids over to a DOT 5 base, it does not attack paint/plastics. I will do this one day, probably when I order a complete new clutch slave and fit it.

Ray, you will probably only ever go through a couple of slaves/kits in the bikes lifetime. Not enough reason in itself to convert to Dot 5. If you want to anyway, fine, but I'm not a fan of it.
A few years back my slave started leaking (I noticed it when I was washing the bike). I changed the fluid to stem the leak and ordered a kit. It was still dry a year later when I finally did the seal.

"Not sure how this belly pan is going to be repaired."

I have repaired a few of these with black 2 inch ABS plumbing pipe, ABS glue, and a heat gun.  I cut a few inches off the pipe and then slice the piece in half lengthwise.  Use the heat gun to flatten the piece out and while it is still pliable mold it into the back side and trim it off.  This provides a strong backing to hold the pieces together.

Then you can use the glue and c clamps to postion it and hold til dry. Once dry just re-drill the hole through the backing.

The repair is not noticeable when on the bike

This is the 3rd kit in around 6 years Noel, I'll put this one in but then I will be ordering a whole new slave assembly from a Randy, think it's overdue. (Only around $80)

Good ideas there Jeff, repair would be the best option, beats ordering a new cowl and then painting it etc. of course I could always leave it off, mmmm, not sure.

That's the other thing I should have mentioned, IMO they should only be reco'd once then replaced.
Also, how long a new seals lasts depends on what process you use to clean up the bore and what condition it's in.

Next time mine goes (it's only had one seal replaced) I will throw it away and replace the whole thing.

Gees I love Manshed Days. Thanks Stu for hosting us, and providing a great lunch, Stus Gourmet Sausages with a homemade pasta thingy hit the spot just right. Trent was the big winner today, after having his shims expertly attended to, restoring his cam chain tensioner to a working state, and balancing/syncing his carbs, his test run up and down the street was enough to set off car alarms, not kidding! I think he was happy,  :rofl2:

Stephen also released the stinking, fetid fluid from his FJ11 forks, which had everyone in the shed gagging, but once it was all refilled with fresh 15wt, all was good. He will be able to give his forks a good workout on the Grafton Rally  :drinks:

Me, I just changed out my front brake fluid, installed a new clutch slave kit, all good there. Darran did ask me if there would be any storms today as it was stinking hot, I thought about it and said nope. Yeah right. On the way home I saw a pretty evil looking black storm front coming from the south, and as I got closer to home I knew I was going to cop it. It started pouring just near the Glen Hotel on the motorway, so I pulled in under an overpass behind a nice German couple also on a bike , and she WAS nice.  :wacko3:     The rain was blowing in, the hail was bouncing in from all directions, cars were stopping where they could to escape the storm, it was chaos, lol. Got home a little wet, but a lot cooler then when I left Stus. Still I had a ball,  BRING ON GRAFTON, woohoo.!!!!!!!!

Bones

Another great Manshed day done and dusted, Trent's bike was the centre of attention with the shims checked and changed, timing chain adjuster removed and checked because of a bad rattle, carbs synced, and timing advance mod done. He took it for a run later and came back saying words like "awesome "and looking happier than a dog with two dicks.

Ray bled his front brakes, and put in a new clutch slave kit

and Steve ( Bender) changed his fork oil, but had a bit of trouble getting his d rod lined up on his 1100.

and a couple of bludgers.... well bludged.

It was a great day and thanks to Stu for hosting this one and putting on a good feed.

                                                            Tony.

P.S. As for who's hosting the next one, if everybody is willing to travel to Yamanto, then I can do the next one.

Ray only turned up for the sausage sangas

OK Ray, I have checked the photos out and I think you probably have the cleanest 3XW in Oz - at the moment!  I'll see you in Grafton for a "shine off" The challenge has been issued and the chamois thrown down.

Other than yourself and Doug, I have no idea who the rest of the motley crew are, any chance of identifying them?

Once you've tried Stus' Gourmet Sausage Sangas, you will be back for more!

The FJ was nice and clean Noel, but the ride through the storm on the way home messed things up! I don't think my bike will be complete in time for Grafton, the belly pan is going to be in pieces for a while. But I might sneak out into the shed to try a technique that Richard showed us using acetone to fuse plastic together.

Today we had Stuart, Trent, Doug, me, Tony, Ken, Darran, Stephen and Cheale. (Shale) Will try to mark them in photos for you.

Not sure Ken, depends if everybody else is willing to travel way out west to Yamanto :pardon:  Thinking maybe May, June ??  I'll put it out there in time to come and get some feedback.
