I was wondering which one of you had the furthest to come.
Well unfortunately you'll have to take me off the list. :cray: My nephew decided to get married the same weekend as the rally. If I don't show up my family will disown me. Canceled my sabbatical. And my cabin reservations. So another one is available. If I'm still alive I'll have to make it next year. Was so looking forward to spending a month riding around the country. With the rally in the middle. Maybe I'll see some of you @ ECFR
The tickets to the U.S have been bought, the bikes ready, got plenty of time off and really looking forward to seeing old & new faces again.

Modified above. I will call to see if I can get another cabin.
We had a great ride today on the FJ. Out hwy 9 to Boulder Creek for lunch and a beer. Then out to the coast, up to hwy 84 to Alice's for desert. Back down 35 to 9 to the slab and home ~160 miles of nice roads and weather. Diane has gotten really comfortable on the FJ and we ride well together. She started asking questions and said she'd like to join for the WCR!!

So there are still 2 left in our block after I reserved another one... Mark/Leon - sorry but getting Diane to come to this rally is worth our own cabin. If you guys can't find a third, I can still pay my 1/3... sorry for late notice.

Peeps,
I'm planning to ride back home after each awesome rally day, since I live just shy of an hour from Petaluma.
'So What' you may say.
Well, if you're looking for a free tent or couch spot, and are willing to do the hour rally commute, then that's the offer for you. I've two spacious 3 man tents and a couch up for grabs (bring your sleeping bag) should any rallyist be interested.

That's about like being in a Hayfork Ca. bar (only two bars in town) and 2 or 3 people in there. It starts raining like hell out side and 200 hippys show up in the bar, I ask the bar tender what gives ? He said "AW every time it rains those hippys get flooded out of there holes up in the hill's and end up in here, it stops raining and they disappear like Houdini" :bye2:

I up and quit my job to go work for the County, in their Fleet Management division.
They gave me an offer I could'nt refuse, so...................the Kabin I had is up for grabs, I think it was #274?
I'll have to join up on the next one...........Everyone ride safe, and have a beer for me at campfire time! :drinks:
Alan, sorry to hear you are gonna miss the rally but happy that you found a better job. looking forward to meeting you next year. Or you might make the Renegade rally later this year. Last year was great, smaller group but still packed with rides and rally fun.

At the end of the day Alan its been placed there for you to ensure the family benefits :empathy2:, there will always be next year and what a year it will be, the FJ turns the big 30, who would've thought 30 yrs later there is still some getting around and looking pretty damn smick, will have to try and get to that party :drinks:
Congrats on the new job Alan! Sorry you have to miss the rally though. Hope to see you at the next one.

My congrats to you, too, Alan.
I'm looking forward to staying with you and your awesome family on my way out.
Thanks for that!
We will ride together again, I have no doubt.
The job is #1 in anyones book and you made a great move, I'm happy for you.
See you in a couple of weeks.
Leon
Alan,
Pity 'bout the rally miss, but business is business. Besides, it'll give you time to make sure that exhaust can doesn't come loose and disappear into the bushes.
Hope you can make the next official one or even the renegade rally - did I say RENEGADE RALLY. Something to hammer out round that camp fire indeed.
Regards to your awesome family who put up with us descending on them last year. Good times.
Andy French
Sorry I will not be able to meet you. I was hoping to meet you Leon and Kurt at some link up point South of here. But the job comes first and it will be exciting for you to have a new position and to build on a retirement. Congrats !!
George
Thank you all for the kind regards.........I'll miss all of you at the rally this year, but I'll look farward to the FJ's 30th birthday rally next year.
Andy, if you ever make it back to Denver, I found the perfect place for you.
They hold an "Old Bike Night" event on the first Thursday of every month, and I'm told they have the best Fish-n-Chips in town......
I popped in there to see how many bikes showed up for the May event, and I should have the FJ back together for the June one.

Might be able to squeeze one in site 263. There are 2 of us on that one right now. If your tent is a smaller one. I only mention that because there are some pretty large tents out there. I have never seen the site so I have know idea how much room is there but it looks large enough to me form google earth.

I have been holding off on posting this hoping things would change but no chance of that now. My mother is having surgery to replace her knee, just before the rally. After she was going to stay with my brother but that is no longer possible. So she will be coming to my house, this means that I can't make the rally this year. Sorry guys I really wanted to be there. Try again next year. Hope everyone has a great time. Still planing on going to Colorado.

Well, I've been plotting and scheming to get myself and the girlfriend to this rally for the last six months
and am coming down to the wire on this build. That being said, is there anyone else with shallow pockets

Having only been to one rally, the fully catered Hayfork flood, I'm wondering what people do for food at these things? I'm bringing a truck as well (wife's driving through SF on the way up), so I'll have some room. Current plan is to bring stuff for Diane and I for breakfast, count on lunch while out riding, then bringing a few pounds of chicken and stuff to help with feeding the crew one night (they have BBQs I'm sure?). I could dial that back if there are other traditional meal plans or ?? Advice appreciated... :good2:
I'm also packing a couple cases of beer and a can or two of O'Doules or whatever its called for Pat... Monkey says I owe you all a beer for enduring my build. :drinks:

Ha! You know I love a real campfire!
We at the WCR light our campfires with Termite. It's the only way ensure the fire is quickly lit, so the BS and beer can start flowing.

Thanks but it's all in the photo. It's no cleaner than anyone elses and doesn't even come close to most of them. I am expecting rain on Tuesday (60% chance) between here and my first stop at NAS Fallon. It will be pretty grimmy by the time I get to the rally. Looking forward to a few days of riding. It's been a while and I am rusty. :i_am_so_happy: It will nice to meet everyone. I am going to try to attend the Colorado rally in July also so this is a good trial run.
Have a safe trip (in your nice warm and dry truck, with a cup holder...)  Just giving you a bad time... I know the distance you have to travel. See ya there.
George
Travel safe boys. In Redding tonight, San Fransisco tomorrow. Will have a few days there before hitting the rally on Thursday. Only one lonely FJ in the truck this year. Donna won't be riding due to a back injury so her bike is at home. Had extra room in the truck, so I brought a few parts to sell/trade. Hoping to meet up with Randy tomorrow. Can't wait to see you all and all the shiny FJs.
Derek
Heading out now.
See you all in a few days.
Safe travels everybody!
I will also be bring with me a couple of leather Yamaha motorcycle jackets for sale.
These are blue and white in color and have armor linings.
I ordered them online, new, and were too small for me and the return would have cost me too much.
Make me a reasonable offer and they are yours.
Looking for something in the $100- $150 range.
I usually wear an X-large, so this should give you some idea on there size.

I am getting things all ready to head out of here on Thursday morning.
I have room in the truck to bring things that you guys might need, parts wise.
I already have some clutch parts for LA Mike and I need to know if anyone else wants me to bring them anything.

Don't ask me how I know.
The bike is washed, the red Power Ranger suit has been cleaned from the old bugs, new bugs on order. And since I am riding up this time, if I forget my boots, I deserve the Drinks Bitch shirt for the next 5 rallies.... Leon-
If you can, see about taking a walk through Muir Woods, (a few bucks to get in) or another of the free groves of Redwoods that are interspersed across that area. The redwoods are stunningly large and spiritual in their own way. In my mind WELL worth working into an agenda while there, sometime before you leave. I can assure you there is absolutely NOTHING like these trees in Iowa. (They can survive forest fires!!) -Muir is just twelve really fun twisty miles across the Golden Gate bridge....
Have fun

I got home as well, all unpacked and having a cold one. With Mike's help we leapfrogged in team work, making a pocket for the other FJ to fit and run up to the next open spot. I don't know if I would have made it home quicker but I feel we made home safer. Can't wait for the next rally. I really enjoyed meeting many of you face to face, when I post I now have a better feel of who I am addressing and when I give anyone any crap they know I am really just having fun. For anyone that missed it, you missed a great rally. Looking forward to Renegade Rally and anything other rally I can make this year... :drinks:
Home and safe for Craig Z and I , the tie down strap was sawed thru by that damn axe rubbing on it at the front right fork.
all good cause the other three held the bike in place and no damage at all.
I just added up the miles... A minor 610 from door, back to door. The slab home was the worst, a bit hot and boring... But the event was well worth it...

Great time with some new and many old buds. Absolutely wonderful riding with the "fast 5" on hwy 20 last night guys... AND Diane (Mrs Flynt) had great time, expressing many of the same things Lilly said about the group. Thanks to everyone for moving her ever closer to the dark side.
Post those pics boys!

I rolled in just after 7pm, which is damn near 12 hours to the minute with stops. Brian texted saying he made it home fine as well.
Ride back was uneventful, hot and had strong head winds 95% of the way.
Getting everything ready to head out in the morning.
Hopefully see everyone next year.
I just stopped in Wyoming for the night, around 925 miles.
I have 1000+ to make it home tomorrow.
I had a wonderful time, and it's always great meeting fresh faces and getting together with the familiar ones.
We have a great group of people.
Very glad to have made it to a West Cost Rally and finally meeting Marsh and Klavdy for the first time, you guys were great!
George, my thoughts are with you and I wish you the very best, you didn't need this, and I hope you will find your way back to us when the time is right.
And to my roomies, Mike and Mark, thanks for the company, those first two days there were pretty quiet without you!.
I also wanted to give a shout out to Capt. Ron, thanks, I feel I made a new friend and I really enjoyed your company both on and off the bikes.
I'll add more when I finally make it back home...
Leon
In a word...Outstanding! I really enjoyed meeting everyone...bullshitting around the warm glow of thermite and using up more tire than I typically do! :yahoo: From now on, with this crowd I can just say, "Y'know...The 20" and you'll nod and grin like I do.
Ran the Sonora Pass over to the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains today...about 350 miles with some 9000 foot elevations:

I have been following the posts and comments from the rally and it seems a great time is had by everyone with good people to meet and knowledge to be gained, but I must agree with FeralRdr, in that, who needs to travel half way cross the world or drive/ride for a couple of days to ride a hundred miles to a "titty bar". What a waste of effort to whoever organised the rally. I hope to have my FJ by the next WCR and would like to think that some decent rides were to be had instead.

Just got home all safe and sound...Ran the East side of the Sierra Nevadas today. I took the road up to the Mount Whitney Portal to cool down a bit, then super slabbed it home through the Mojave Desert. It wasn't so much the heat, it was those sudden side gusts of wind that wanted to blow my helmet off sideways! :shok:
Hope to hear from the few stragglers still on the road (Leon!)
Cap'n Ron. . .
George, you ok?
What happened?
Leon, hope your trip home is going safe.............I'm sure you'll post up when you get home.
I wanna see pictures too! Sorry I missed it this year........................
If you did not see it, George post his story on General Discusion tab.
My hero's, Jeff for checking on the guy that was not in his rear view mirror, that would be George (hey how come no one checked on Jeff). And Randy for being so willing help with the "rescues" and just be our mechanical guru. :good2: everyone that attended the WCR should go on his site and buy something. You know you need something.

I had Jeff covered at that turn and then he stopped to wait for George...Then it was the freeway run (um...errr...at excesive speeds) for one exit and no Jeff. I didn't find out all the drama...and subsequent heroism until camp at the end of the day.
I can't agree with you more about supporting those that support us and our habit. Randy is exemplary in that regard!

Thanks Mike, Not too tough to want to keep George close. He is a great guy with a huge heart. It was a pleasure to get to know him and everyone else.

I rode with Doug down to San Francisco and then picked up my girlfriend and we slabbed it down to Ventura. Made it just before dark.

Super glad I made it down and I'm already looking forward to next year!
Just got in. It's 11:30 central time.
One hell of long day, but I made it without problems.
I'll add more later, but now I need sleep.
Leon
Glad to see you made it home safe Leon was good to see you again this year, already looking forward to next year :good2:
Lord Baldy
Baldy, if you ever make another trip over and bring goodies for FJMonkey, try putting a bottle of that rum in the box for me!
Pat and Paul, you two guys are great friends, as it's only been twice that we have met face to face, but I feel a real bond with you both. Pat, the carb sync lesson you supplied for me was first rate. I learned alot and feel my knowledge level moved up a knotch. (Even if the carbs didn't need any adjustments, you took care of that! LOL!)
Derek and Donna, you two are fun to be with, and great company. Thanks for letting me stay tucked in on that ride Derek, the sounds of our FJs harmonizing pulling away was music to my ears.
RPM Randy, I was pleased to spend some time with you talking that one night, it's always a pleasure to talk with someone with such vast knowledge of our FJs.
So many more faces and names to learn, but thats the fun of going to Rallys, it's always nice adding to the friendship list.
I hope to see you all again someday, so until then ride safe and take care.
Leon

Baldy, Baldy, Baldy........... Mate, have been taking Bundy out of the country again :diablo:
You know that it is OUR secret & that we don't want them others finding out about it. They won't leave any for us :ireful:
Now say 3 hail marys & your penalty is to bring a BIG bottle of Bundy to the Finger Freeze ride to share with those of us who truly deserve it :empathy2:
Got home last night, did some sight seeing and visiting on the way.
Had a great time at the rally this year! It was great to see the familiar faces and meet some great new people as well. Can't wait till next year!
Derek
Glad you made it home ! Thanks again.

Well, I know it's a little delayed. Lilly and I made it home safe. She's still in a sling, but her shoulder is getting better.
Being the other dummy that went down I have to once again thank Randy for comming out to litterally the end of the road to pick us up.
It was really great meeting so many of you in person for the first time. I'm definitely looking forward to the next rally.

Glad you made it home , good to meet you at the rally . Any progress on the fj yet?
Paul and I are back home. Just got in. Paul back to Chino and I'm back to the toasty Palm Desert.
We took the long way home..... 3,600 miles in 6 days. I am sore.
Left Petaluma WCR last Sunday, up 101 to Fortuna and across Calif on Hwy 36 to Susanville, up 395 to Oregon, across Idaho up to Montana, down to Wyoming thru Jellystone toured the Gran Titons, down to Utah, the usual tour rides, Glen Canyon, Flaming Gorge, etc, down thru Monument Valley into Arizona, thru Flagstaff and home.
My '92 ran flawlessly. Fast, smooth, stable, effortless. What a great bike, she had many compliments from admirers gathered at various stops along the way. I friggin love those Michelin Pilot Road 3 tires.
I removed that pesky rattling exhaust tip on my Kroaker once I found some SAE Allens.
WTF is it with me and rattling exhausts? This is the 2nd rally in a row......anyhoo...
What a great WCR rally.
It was heartwarming to read George's post reflecting his great post accident attitude. What a good guy.
Great to meet Mike (skymasters) and Lilly. Mike don't let Lilly paint her bike pink.
(Having a good looking babe on a pink bike smoke my ass, will irreparably damage my ego...)
2013 WCR = Good times. Great weather. Fun rides.
Hooking up with old friends and meeting new friends, life just does not get any better.
These are the good old times.
It was wonderful catching up with my Seppo & Canuckistan mates at this years rally, it's really a highpoint of the year for me, something that's looked forward to, planned for and anticipated with great relish.
First off though, you have to get there,it's a long haul from Brisbane airport in Australia to Los Angeles,it's over 13 hours in the air and another couple when you add up the time spent on the ground at either end waiting for take off slots etc.
We flew over on a Qantas flight, a Boeing 747-438ER "Longreach" named Wunala.

not only did he look after us, he's also looked after the machines, kept them on battery chargers, registered and insured them for us (all out of his own pocket) and generally been the most hospitable and gracious of hosts.
Just look at his garage, the poor bloke can't even park his car in there coz there's two convict scum's bikes in it as well as all his own stuff,

America,to an outsider, is a cornucopia of inexpensive delights, this much Stolly would easily set you back over $100 in Aus,

but on this trip I really noticed that the price of a lot of things had increased dramatically while most folks incomes had remained static, still it's really cheap to travel in the states compared to other first world countries.
Back to the Rally!
Fluffy and I fagged it, got a U-Haul and chucked the bikes on,drove outta L.A and headed north to Petaluma,

as an aside, the Seppos have weird combinations with their food, see those scones?
They call 'em "Biscuits", dunno why, and see that white stuff in the little pot next to 'em?
That's butter!
Yep, their butter is white, their cheese is orange and don't even ask about how many ways they want to know how you'd like your eggs cooked or what sort of bloody salad dressing you want, it'll do your head in.
Anyway, suitably refreshed, it was off again the next morning after a good nights sleep.
WTF?? $21.99 for 1.75l Vodka. No effin way!! :dash2:
The American road system is incomparable,
(http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-gjGSbgLtJFM/UcWD3gRGDQI/AAAAAAAAMpA/_cpmh9GOYVY/w1139-h854-no/IMGP2286.JPG)
if it says "70" mph on the speed signs (our 110KMH equivalent) you can safely do 85 before you even start to think you may draw attention, and depending on where you are, it's safe enough to wick it up a bit more.
No one ,especially bike riders, pays much attention to speed signs anyway.
Here's a pic of me in the slow lane doing 156 kmh as indicated by the GPS,I've got 71 KM's to go but I'd been sitting on around that speed for an hour or two with not a worry in the world
(http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Q-yP37N95Og/UbS4eRrMMUI/AAAAAAAALPY/6N4_xfAv4Q0/w1139-h854-no/IMGP2842.JPG)
that's a high enough speed in most Australian states to have my bike impounded, licence suspended for six months and a $2,000 + fine if the Cockroaches catch me.
(Most of the Aussie Hwy Patrol are known as Cockroaches by their own colleagues.)
Doing over 100 mph gets frowned on but.
The Seppo cops are more concerned with keeping the traffic flowing rather than pinging you for exceeding an arbitrary ,revenue raising speed limit by a paltry few klicks.
We've got a lot to learn from them re our idiotic compliance culture.
Fluffy & I were among the first to arrive, we've spotted this bloke and waved, said G'day thinking he was one of us ,but it was just some random dude, he's probably still wondering why these blokes were gurning madly and flipping him off.
Oh, in the U.S,many people in Military are supposed to wear Hi-Vis whenever they ride so if you see someone wearing the stupid , useless crap it's more than likely not just a deluded fool or a lost Ullysean twonk like you'd see in Aus.
We've unloaded the bikes, settled into our luxury KOA Kabins and caught up with friends old and new, here's Paul and L.A Mike, both regular ralliers,

Hi guys , just bought my first FJ, it's a 1991 1200 and I love it . I remember test riding one of these bikes when they were first released in the Uk some years ago . We were invited to test ride and give our impression of the bike , I remember being blown away with the overall performance of the FJ1200 . The bike I owned at the time was a Honda 900F2 but the FJ was and still is in a class of its own. I've put about 500ks on my FJ in the month I've been riding it, all short one hour trips . It's got 67000,ks on the clock and in good nick it was lying in a dealers window for 17 months only doing 88 ks in this time .I've just topped up the oil on it , when it was delivered the oil level was spot on, so it has used some (advice welcome )the dealer gave me 3 months mechanical on it so trying to identify any future expensive problems . Looking forward to chatting with everybody . John from Nz. :hi:

I hope so...they were good btw. I had BBQ sauce in my white whiskers for a couple of hours...of course no one at the table mentioned it...
I wondered why they were looking at me, elbowing each other and laughing....those rascals...
What a great time I had at the rally. One WCR get together a year is not enough....we need more!
I finally done it, I got to meet the most offensive person on the internet, the infamous Klavdy!
This is one of my most cherished pictures of the WCR.

Hows about we have a Southern West Coast Fall Rally in September then?
Works for me, I'll bring more of that Papua New Guinea coffee.
Sure, what do you think guys? I'm game :good2:
Steve, Mike and I have kicking this idea around for a few years. We have enough SoCal members, commitment/interest seemed to be lacking. Maybe it is time to jump start the idea and make it happen...
Gee whiz.... Al I need is a bike, air fare from Aus to LAX return, spending money, time off for good behaviour, a job to come back to..... :sarcastic: :sarcastic:
Sounds interesting. How far south in SoCal are you thinking? Ojai, Big Bear, Idyllwild, Palomar, Mt Laguna all have beautiful roads. After Labor day would be best as all the kids are in school and traffic is light in these areas.
Weekends are tough for me but if the planets line up just so, I can attend.
Remember, SoCal in Sept is a tinderbox and I worry about us being able to have a campfire.

We're talking about the ribs, -right?
I hope so...they were good btw. I had BBQ sauce in my white whiskers for a couple of hours...of course no one at the table mentioned it...
I wondered why they were looking at me, elbowing each other and laughing....those rascals...
What a great time I had at the rally. One WCR get together a year is not enough....we need more!
Hows about we have a Southern West Coast Fall Rally in September then?
Works for me, I'll bring more of that Papua New Guinea coffee.
If you are talking about doing that this coming September. I might have to change my plans from the Fall East Coast Rally and head West.

Ummmm..... Just a question. If "she who must be obeyed" & I came to the 2014 WC rally, what's the go with renting/hiring bikes in Calyforniay?? :pardon:
I see 1 place on the interwebby thing that hires from LAX :good2: but hoping some of the local's might have some better idea's.
BTW, I will bring TWO bottles of Bundy Rum :wacko2:

There are a few places in San Francisco, but I don't know where to rent an FJ...
These guys rent some fine hardware... BMW, Ducati, etc.

These guys rent "Dreams", but the hardware is mostly Hardly's.

I'll offer to guide a full day ride around greater SF South Bay... There's a route I like that takes us out to the coast, lunch in Santa Cruz on the Boardwalk, then over toward Morgan Hill and potentially Livermore via Mt Hamilton. Great riding and lots of options with potential to stop at the famous Alice's Restaurant on Skyline Blvd.
Just an option, but we really should extend the RR to 2 days.

Went to a conference in Thailand & the USA contingent drank the two bottles of Bundy I took over. Mind you, they were a tad ordinary the next day :hang1: :hang1:

Umm, you've not had Bundaberg Rum, you've only had that piss weak 20 % proof poofter water,
(http://img.thewhiskyexchange.com/270/liq_bun1.jpg)
They call it "Royal Liqueur" because the target market is old queens,it's a pensioners tipple here in Australia, reserved for the elderly ,infirm and effeminate.
What you need is the real Aussie rum, Bundaberg O.P.

CrazyDogLady
Welcome C.D. Lady, I am catching up on posts and see that I missed offering you a greeting to this much refined and high class part of the FJ world. It seems that the West Coast is building up some steam and may expand to yet another rally but further South. And why not? We have a longer riding season, some really good roads and.... Just another reason to hang out with other FJowners around a campfire... Depending on your schedule we still have the Renegade rally coming up. I made last year and had a blast, a smaller group but full of quality rides and quality personalities... Cheers...

Have passed the idea of 2014 by "she who must be obeyed" & the boss is keen :good:
But looking at bike rentals at roughly $200/day (incl. Insurances) & as we would be there 3 weeks it don't make much sense to rent. Once we get all sorted this end (I need a job) then will look to buy something in Cal & then sell it after we leave.
So this might just happen yet :yahoo: :yahoo:

They said it could never be done. It won't mix. It can't happen. Bundy. Coffee. Chocolate. Three vices of the master distiller, who would not give up in his quest to combine all three into one, incredible, intense experience.
Early attempts were met with failure. Too much coffee, and he couldn't sleep for a week. Too much chocolate and months in the weight loss clinic. In true Aussie spirit, he wouldn't give up, and through hard work came the triumph.
The distiller lifted his glass. The dark, intense liquid swirled & milled around the ice. The aroma was intense. Indescribable. Mouth watering. He took a sip. He smiled. This could not be unleashed on the public. This was too good.
It was decided that this should be contained within the distillery walls. It was not for the common man - Royal Liqueur was born.
Years on, this is still too big a secret to let loose from the distillery. Want to try it? Jump in the car, head on over to Bundaberg, Queensland. Have a chat to the distiller. The recipe is still unknown, but if you can corner him in the local, and buy him a drink, he may let you in on his secret.
Lucky enough to get your hands on a bottle? Serve it up on ice, or straight, or with milk, or anything really. Just savour the triumph in every sip.
Available only at the distillery and on the Bondstore website in 700ml bottles, 20% ABV.
