I thought it was interesting to see that the "Donate Now" button was still active. Maybe a good idea for raising money for the site - shut it down for a while as part of fundraising efforts. I certainly hope that all who benefit from the wealth of information (not to mention the entertainment value) from this site are contributing what they can. Thanks Marsh for keeping the site alive!

So this get's me thinkin. Why the hard-on for the TSA Klav? You and I have differed on this issue before. You came down firmly on the side of a woman who tangled with the TSA and lost -was detained, and missed her flight. Whereas from my perspective, she was an activist that went in looking for trouble, and she found it (she was traveling with a quantity of breast milk (greater than 4oz) and no child -had been there the week before 'causing trouble'... I do not know, perhaps she was an innocent victim, but I'm guessing no. Anyway, our difference on this issue, was the genesis of the "MALO PERICULOSAM LIBERTATEM QUAM QUIETUM SERVITIUM" in your tag -if I'm not mistaken (he says with a tinge of pride...)
At the time, I thought you were an anti-institution/ problems with authority kind of guy and this was the issue du-jour. But this post, and it's specific theme-repeat, makes me wonder why the particular bile for the TSA? Hell Klavdy, the feds, at a minimum see themselves as the owner of the 'protect the homeland' problem. The TSA is a natural byproduct of such a perspective -especially after 9-11.
Note that we do not disagree, I have seen time and time again where large bureaucratic institutions are at best inefficient, and at worst, abusive and ridiculously costly, to the point of absurd waste. The TSA is no exception to this. But the TSA is small potatoes compared to the big players. Where is your bile for the defense department, social security, Medicare/ Medicaid, big agriculture, etc. These folks have perfected wholesale theft and abuse. -the $500 hammer anyone?
So I ask, simply: were you given a cavity search by the TSA at some point?
:)
Dan
My question is why do some people who are not US citizens feel it's okay to repeatedly bitch about our policies and laws?
We have had members before who were living in the States, were not eligible to vote, but still felt it was okay to be an activist about revoking our 2nd amendment rights as US citizens. We have those who hate the TSA. We have those who hate the police and/or the military.
I don't complain about the laws of other governments... if I don't agree, I just don't go there. Being a free man, I have the option to do that.
Either move here, assimilate and vote you own mind, or deal with it. :pardon:
Now that is rich. From the country that believes it has a god given right to be cop to the world and to dictate how every other country should behave. A complaint for others to not be allowed to comment on policies that are forced upon the rest of the world by "his" country that refuses to even allow oversight by the world court. I suppose you also support free speech even when you don't happen to agree, right? Or is that ONLY for US citizens? And before you start hurling "patriotic", ethnocentric accusations at this foreigner, I'm not. I am a US citizen who votes, and is able and willing to criticize where and when I feel it is deserved.

Ah, the $500 hammer. Why oh why do we need a $500 hammer. It is not about the hammer. It is about having a war time resource in place during times of peace preserve and protect the American nation and our people.
The defense indutry can not be justified nor can the military expense in times of peace. We maintain a huge military complex, and buy $500 hammers as a subsidy, to ensure we have smart people to make smart weapons to kill our smart enemies when they need killing. That is why we choose to subsidize this essential capability in times of peace.
I do not much care for the TSA folks and do not like the hollywood special effects security we keep in place. But, so what.
I really get pissed at people bloviating about social security and medicaid. Let people have a little security in their golden years, have some compassion and common sense. Tax the rich and the well off well and with justification to ensure the system remains well funded. Remove the limits and taks the deductions on all income and problem solved.

I travel quite a bit and Klavdy does as well... they are a familiar target for me. I have lots of personal anicdotes that could be recounted, but I'll spare us all since we appear to be on the same side. :morning1:
I don't hate Homeland Security per se and it is hard to take a position against something so vague. TSA is easy in this respect and we know they do a completely bang-up job of security (I think a cavity search happens at the dentist for most of these trained professionals... makes me safer I think). I have a close relative that has created software products for the gov't giving them access to your keystrokes if you are worth watching... we all have reason to be paranoid. :bomb:
There are definitely bigger enemies, but I hate TSA too... I can get my hands around that one! :diablo:

A bit touchy, Arnie? Everyone should have free speech... but if it's not your country, and you choose to be here of your own volition, then either gain citizenship and vote, tough it out, or leave.
It would be okay with me if the US let all the rest fight it out, and let the chips fall where they may (and while we are at it, withhold the
Billions in handouts), but I don't recall mentioning foreign policy specifically. I
DID, however, specify domestic US laws and polices, ie: the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution and TSA. These are OUR laws, and IMO, those who visit here should either 'do as the Romans do', or if they really find it that distasteful, stay the hell out.
I'm well aware of your citizen status... this is not the first time you have mentioned it.

Just an FYI - the USA is a signatory to multiple treaties for human rights that run across multiple nations and the whole world. Human rights are owned to all people regardless of ethnicity, religion or nationality. Free speech is afforeded all people in the USA as are many of the protections and rights under the constitution.
History will affirm Arnie's observation that the USA post 911 has abandonded their legal obligations under quite a few of the treaties in effect for human rights. This is pretty unamerican in many regards. Not to mention the use of torture, which still continues in various forms and through surrogates and the wide spread observation and illegal wire tapping of innocent citizens including intercepting and listening to all our communications including cell phone traffic and e-mail. It is an outrage that is not bitched about enough.

I have no problem with the TSA.... I want them to be as effective as possible...Anything I can do to help them, I will. Do they need more money for enhanced body scanners? Give it to them. It's tax payer money well spent.
The sad fact is, with the shear number of stealth lunatic bombers available, it only takes a few successful mid air detonations before fear sets in and the consumers lose confidence and curtail their flying...then another billion dollar US industry goes in the toilet.
Got a beef with the TSA? Simple, don't fly. Take a train or boat.

We prefer the term progressives. Like in the sentence - the progressive president Franklin Delanor Roosevelt defeated the Nazis and the Japanese Empire in WW2.
Versus say Regan, who watched TV, fingered Nancy and talked big and sold guns to Iran. No shooting war for that guy, unless you count his cutting and running in Lebanon.
And we perfer not to have our values insulted by you. Think you can live in those parameters?
I just have to ask, why is it that "progressive" find it so easy to throw insults at the tea party? Do you really even know what the tea party is about?
If not, let me fill you in. It's about living with in your means and not having to take from those that work hard and give it to those that don't.
BTW, happy to see one of your "Gods" got fired from Current TV. I guess even Al Gore couldn't put up with that train wreck.

Craigo - the tea party is where you belong bud. Nuff said. 10% or less of the population and going to cost the republicans the senate, the president office and the house potentially as well. Your own party thinks the tea party is a joke, a cancer on the party. Good on ya bud. I love the tea party, I really do.

What Randy seems to not realize is that the US by its [ power, money, influence ] is able to "persuade" many other countries to not only comply, but to mimic many of its policies. While each country has its own name for their version of the US TSA, they are all pretty much alike, with very similar attitudes and substance limits etc. Anyone who travels, and not only to/in the US, is subjected to the antics of these puffed up dropkicks. Those travellers' right to criticize is just as real as his.
My attitude is that any policy that affects me is one I am entitled to critique. I may or may not be able to influence or modify that policy, but my right to comment (including ridicule) should not be curtailed.
Nor should Klavdy's even if he doesn't have a US passport.

Guys, this probably doesn't belong under this topic, but I'm seeing a heap of politics here so its going here anyway.
I'm not a US citizen but an interested citizen of the world with Australian nationality...... found this the other day and while it is specifically US aimed, it could just as easily be applied to our Australian political situation at present:
SCARY OBITUARY
In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh ,
had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent
form of government.
A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can
vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the
most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally
collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."
"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has
been about 200 years..
During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:
From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."
The Obituary follows:
Born 1776, Died 2012
It doesn't hurt to read this several times.
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul , Minnesota ,
points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:
Number of States won by: Obama: 19 McCain: 29
Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million McCain: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama: 13.2 McCain: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was
mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.
Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income
tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."
Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the
"complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy,
with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached
the "governmental dependency" phase.
If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal
invaders called illegal's - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to the
USA in fewer than five years.
If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.
If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at
stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom..
This is truly scary!
Of course we are not a democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic .
Someone should point this out to Obama.
Of course we know he and too many others pay little attention to The Constitution.
There couldn't be more at stake than on Nov 2012.

Ooops - punked.
First, Joseph Olson is a professor at Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minn. None of what appears in this e-mail was written by him. He has been denying authorship of this old hoax since earlier versions first cropped up after the 2000 election. Most recently he posted a disclaimer about the 2008 version on his university profile page:
Olson: There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2008 Obama/McCain election and the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scottish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is attributed to me. It is entirely BOGUS as to my authorship. I've been trying to kill it since December 2000. For details see: <http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/tyler.asp. (http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/tyler.asp.)
More important, the "unreported stats" listed in this e-mail are all wrong:
President-elect Barack Obama actually carried 28 states (and the District of Columbia), not 20 as claimed in the message. Sen. John McCain carried only 22 states, not 30.
The total area of states won by Obama is actually 1,483,702 square miles, significantly more than the 580,000 stated by the e-mail. McCain's states have an area of 2,310,315 square miles, not the 2,427,000 claimed.
The population of counties carried by Obama is just under 183 million, not the 127 million claimed. McCain carried counties with a total population of just under 119 million, far fewer than claimed in this message.
Fair enough.......
As some smart person said about such things as statistics......there are lies, damn lies and then there are statistics.....

Yeah, snopes.com had this as incorrectly attributed and wrong. It seemed incorrect when I read it, although it would have been fun if it were true.
BTW, that quote, "...lies damn lies and statistics" was popularized by Mark Twain -I think I read somewhere that he got it from Ben Disraeli -I could look but I'm too lazy
I do think the sentiment
"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can
vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.

most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally

is at play here.

Besides Im quite sure Pat has better things to do than to throw on a Zebra shirt and spend his time handing out 5 minute majors for unsportsmanlike conduct.......Politics and religion..........2 big no no's :flag_of_truce: ....enjoy your rally.... :drinks:
Kev
PS.........anyone watching the playoffs ? I love what the Kings are doing to Vancouver!!!!! If you can get a chance catch any of the Penguins vs Flyers series..........it is simply the best hockey you will ever see !!!!!!!!! go Flyers
Hey, never let the truth get in the way of a good story!
I actually was enjoying the article until it suddenly took an immediate political turn to the right. Don't get me wrong, that article could have been modified when Bush won over Gore by someone with leanings to the left and it would have been just as annoying.

Ya know, after this latest round of left-wing bullshit from the SoCal manners dude, I'm beginnging to rethink my position about "Glad to see the site back online!". Every item posted becomes about how Obama is superior and we that oppose Obama are social reprobates because we have a different opinion. And of course, the name calling always starts, just like any good school yard punk will do.
I've had enough of that shit! I came here because I have a FJ, and most others here do or have in the past. Some seem to be here only to spew their politics and rarely, if ever offer
ANY FJ related input. So
Terry, why are you here??? Maybe you should just go back to DailyKos, or HuffPO and be among your own kind. If you have some FJ content to offer, chime in. Otherwise, STFU.
I'll be back in a while, maybe ...
Meanwhile.... Klavdy is sitting back, no doubt laughing...... (popcorn)
I'm in agreement with Ed. Even tho I live in Canada I have to agree, this is a site about the mighty FJ and not politics. That said I don't mind a good argument about said subject now and then. So, I hope I don't ruffle any feathers being that I am a canuck but I do enjoy reading the posts about the FJ and everybody's mods and advice. Thanks all that is my two bits worth. Big R

Obviously topics such as religion and politics (and you could likely put guns in there too) are hot-topic issues that deserve a lively debate now and again. That being said, perhaps there is another forum that could be dedicated to such matters or maybe just as with the guns section, there should be a section dedicated to politics and religion (may as well lump them in together) where members can put their boxing gloves on (no guns, please) and go at it. Then, once they've given or received a good beating and they've caught their breath they can come back to one of the many sections in this forum dedicated to what is arguably one of the greatest, most versatile sport-touring motorcycles ever made – the 1992 FJ1200! See, now we can start an argument about which year and colour scheme (or "color" for you Americans) is the best. You know, discuss the things that really matter in life!
Keep on riding!

I've weighed in on the politics before on another thread- gotta think twice about doing it again because is heats up rather quickly. I consider myself to be pretty central politically- there are issues that I vote liberal and others that I vote conservatively. I like a debate that has valid points on both sides because this is where constructive growth happens - eventually common ground is located. I got into the political discussion on the other thread because of some seriously offensive stuff that came out of your mouth Ed.
So, I don't think you should be slinging any stones......living in that glass house and all. You could take your sentiment to keep the politics off the site a great deal farther and be quite effective at squelching the comments you don't appreciate or agree with if you would also STFU.
Just sayin.

randy, because when you're #1, you have the biggest target on your back for critics and peers wishing to be as great as you are. as an example, look at the steelers Patriots, the greatest organization in the nfl.
