Made it home fine, and dry. No rain the entire trip back which was very nice.
Good to see everyone again, and already looking forward to next year. Hopefully the weather will play nice.
Great rally everyone! Minus the weather of course. Klavdy and I just made it to Harris Ranch for the night. Just catching up on everything now. I think this is the longest period of time I have ever gone without the internet...
P.S. you can now upload photos from the WCR rally here: http://www.fjrally.com/picgallery/gallery.asp?categoryid=46 (http://www.fjrally.com/picgallery/gallery.asp?categoryid=46)
Kim and I are both home safe and sound. It was great to see everyone again. Had a good time! Great job Marsh. Sure hope we have better luck with the weather next time. Andy... email me off-line when you get a chance. ~scott
Good to hear it, no tickets, no major blunders (LA Mike forgetting that a Blip tests should be performed in neutral, even if on the grass), 9.5 hours of long boring slab time but I made it home as well. Really enjoyed meeting everyone. Same spot next year Marsh?
Just got back minutes ago. Damn rain!!! All ok just not muchfun ...
I made it back after 9.5 hours of slab in the truck. Some light rain and lousy gas prices. I am really bummed about the rain dousing most my rides but the top side was mixing and meeting many of you that, up till now have been club names and the personalities that emanate from your writings. Now I have some faces and personal experiences to draw upon. Trinity Ranch seemed like a great place as it is located close to many really great rides. I took the 36 south to hit the 5 and I really want to run that road (when dry).
Making my first rally:
A heated room with a hot shower down the hall (including 3 good meals each day), $120.
Fuel for truck to get the bike up and back $300 approx.
New RPM fork-brace installed by Randy himself $150, (Almost cracked my helmet from my huge smile).
Meeting and riding with you all...Priceless

OK, We're back from dinner, now I can be more civilized :flag_of_truce:. We had a 10 1/2 drive back from Bar717 Ranch to Simi Valley. The drive was like the rally, kinda rain-soaked. And CalTrans had long sections of I-5 necked from 2 lanes to 1, adding to the
fun of the trip
. We did have a fun time at the rally, but the riding was rather limited, with rain on Friday & Saturday. And long bits of heavy rain on the return trip, including into the driveway at home.
Good to see everyone, and meet some new folks as well: Frank/Flynt from San Jose, Derek & Donna from BC, Hein from BC, of course Randy & Chandra; Steve & Kim from SanFran, Henry from SanFran as well. All good folks, and fine additions to our motley crew! Apologies if I neglected anyone.
Here's to another rally with no (real) crashes or tickets too. :drinks: We all know there was ample opportunity for both.
And most of all, thanks to Marsh for pulling this together. I know it didn't come off as you'd hoped, but we can only blame the weather-guesser, not you, amigo. Thanks for all the supreme effort :hi:
Ed
Rode home with Scott and Kim in mostly dry conditions.
Fell asleep for ages once home.
Well that has to go down as the most sociable rally ever.
What a great bunch of riders and Fj fanciers.
You're all invited to the forthcoming 3rd renegade rally, which is nowhere near as elaborate an affair, but it's darn good fun.
Top job Randy at RPM on those forkbraces. Th front end has never felt so stable. (Should have been a standard fitment Mr Yamaha)
i kinda wished i didn't leave on Sat. but when i looked at the forecast for Sunday and it said HAIL, I like; wtf! i was very close to turning back and staying.
That first night i arrived, Pat immediately got me a cup of warm coffee and Marsh grabbed me some food! I was like, WOW! these group of guys are stand up people!
Really though, I had an epic time! Everyone is awesome and I'm glad I could be part of such a great community. Riding the pace with Marsh was great fun! Until the rain fits, at that point, i might as well get off the bike and walk it along the road, I'm so slow!

I can't wait to do this again. What was that?! The mini rally is going to be a two day event?! hmm, sounds good to me!
Home at 9pm, got pull over 30miles outside Stockton doing 70 pulling the trailer... luckily no ticket :good2: Did under 60mph the rest of the way home.
Had a great time even with the rain. Hope we get invited back next year, driving the 36hwy home makes me want to definitely come back and ride it on a bike.
LA Mike
Steve got me home about 9:00, we stopped for a great dinner at Harris Ranch, should have gotten the 12 OZ cut. Ate too much meat. Andy I assume those are your leathers we discovered in our car once we got home. We were relieved they did not include a bike key. Get your address to Steve.
Weather as side I had a great time. Enjoyed everyone's company and thanks Marsh for putting this together.
Special award to Henry for his tenacity to ride. A group of us (on Saturday?) turned back when the roads got to wet for comfort. He continued on and found better conditions and got a nice ride in. We took the 36 home to find the that where we turned back was at the end of the "technical section" of the road and the start of the elevation drop / dryer conditions. Good move Henry!
I did find some nice riding in the valley we were in and the local beer bar just a couple of miles away had a fun atmosphere, fantastic view, and 50 cent pool table. $1.50 pitchers too. Might be a fun time for the gang to go there after dinner. If we make it up there again. :drinks: .
Steve thanks for hanging with me and especially for hauling me and the bike.
Now to find out why my tach stopped working??
GOOD TIMES,
Mike

As I posted earlier, this trip was priceless, thanks for the good pics. I look forward to riding with you again. Next time you decide you are gonna ride in spite of the group decision, I am going with you.
The pictures were very nice, from the sounds of it the weather could have been better, but just what is the story behind Marsh and his dented tank?
No pictures?
Any replacement found?
Anybody have the low-down on this?
And Klavdy, hows that new bike?
I'm interested in you riders perspective!

Hey Frank, for starting out wanting a room to myself I am glad I got bunked up with you and Henry. And after you and Henry, Hein (sp?) rode in quite late on his very Orange FJ breaking out the wine and tasty cheese. Great experience and good company. I am taking Marsh's advise and using spray-on paint stripper to have a raw Aluminum wheel till I can put some color on it. Maybe Marsh can tell me where he gets his spray stripper. Does it come with it's own stripper pole?
My flickr was missing a few pics and i just got around to adding them, so check that out again.
Mark, I used some pretty strong brush-on paint stripper i got from Lowes. it worked pretty well.

Hi Ladies and Gents ...
It was really great to see the old and friendly faces and meet the new ones. I can only imagine the epic fun that would have been on tap had the weather had its shit together, but whaddya gonna do? Thanks going out to Garth for the Cinnamon Whisky, that's for sure.
I haven't checked the general communication spot so this may be old news, but on the way south from Hollister on the 25 Pat came over a rise in the road and into a blind and tight right-hander with a patch of sand. Down he went. He got banged up enough to earn a ride to the hospital and his fine did as well. Both will recover with a bit of effort and be good as new, though.
He is being released from San Jose Regional Hospital this afternoon and will spend a few days in Sacramento at his son's house while nursing three broken ribs, a bruised lung and two or three fractured metatarsyls (sp?) on his right foot. His gear was fully sacrificed and that resulted in absolutely no scrapes on him whatsoever. The ER folks praised him for wearing it all, so to anybody wearing jeans on this ride please take note.
Big thanks to Flynt for the offer of a sleep-over ... hopefully next time.
I hope everybody else got home with no issues. Please keep that shiny side up!

Ouch! Speedy recovery Pat. Let me know if I can I be of any service since I'm kind of local?

Holy crap Pat! Take it easy and heal up!
I might be down in the Bay Area in a couple of weeks with my truck and can make a longer trip out of it if you need/want the bike delivered to your home.
Damn Pat!
I hate to read this! I really hope you heal well and quickly and that the bike is not too much trouble to put back to its pre-wreck shininess.
Get better quickly!
Dan
FYI - I talked to Pat just a minute ago and he's doing OK. They are keeping him at the hospital and checking the lung damage, but he thought they'd let him go today. His son from Sac is with him and they are planning to get the bike (in King City) and bringing it up to Sac to evaluate and decide what's next. I'm in San Jose, probably about 3 miles from him, and will go visit if they don't spring him today. Randy has also offered his services to move the bike, so we'll see what happens.
Bum luck after riding through rain and nasty stuff for the prior few days... Pat gets a clear road with hidden sand
Take care Pat and let us help if we can!
Frank
shit that sucks! I feel bad since i told him how cool 25 and 198 were.
Heal up soon Pat! I'm sure you'll polish the hell out of that thing first chance you get!
:music:
Hey Pat,
Sorry about your mishap. Get better real fast. Also, on another note, sorry about your beautiful bike. Jeez, a bit of insult to injury.
Anyway, heal up fast and lets get a SoCal ride together sometime. Remember, I still owe you a sandwich. I want to make good on that. :nyam2:
Take care, :drinks:
CraigO
Hey Pat,
Sorry and very bummed to hear about your tumble, but glad you to know you will be OK. We're not too far apart in dog years and know we don't bonce like we use too. Bikes can be replaced (well yours not so easy). Take some time off work....Oh yeah, never mind.
Your a great asset to the forum and one of the best people I have met in a long time. I wish you a speedy recovery!!
Mike
Pat, bugger about the unscheduled dismount. Take your meds if you need to, heal well, and take lots of therapeutic polishing. I look forward to ridding with you again. A bit surprising that with all the rain and crap on the roads we don't loose one till the conditions look much better. Comfortable vs. paranoid. When you are ready you have some SoCal friends ready to ride. I hope some of the nurses were cute.....
Major bummer Pat, I'm sad to hear 'bout your get off. At least you've still got that lovely head of hair to see you through the tough times. I live in Napa, so if you need a storage place or errand, I'm but an hour away. My mates even got a trailer.
Andy
Pat, that's terrible news.
I hope you heal well and get back on your horse very soon!
I feel compelled to offer any help I can, but distance is a bitch, but I will do my best to help you in any way that I can.
I'd love to help to repair and re polish any damage to your sweet bike.
I feel I owe you something for all the help you have given me during this past year!
Take care, you will be in my thoughts!
Leon
Pat went down? Uh oh.
Hurry up & heal Paddy! I hope you're not hurting too much. As Mark said, you're going to need some therapeutic polishing time on the '84, hopefully not too many parts as well.
Heal quick, amigo.
Ed
sorry to hear about pat, I know how much that hurts .
Pat call me if you need anything. your sons place is real close for me.
Sorry to hear about your mishap Pat, get well soon. A big "hats off" to Marsh for organizing this rally,I can only guess how much work it took. Even though I only made it for the last night I'm very happy that I made it. The hospitality was great and it was really good to be able to put faces and personalities to names. I made it back to Vancouver Island on monday night. The weather was great all the way back and I managed to do the Washington peninsula loop before catching the ferry. I did manage to meet a Washington state trooper who actually let me off with a warning for what he considerd an unusual passing manuever. Note to mokey man . Perwinkle is endangered, do not destroy rear wheel apply perwinkle treatment to front wheel and save the herd. Looking forward to the next rally. Hein
Paddy update:
Talked to him this afternoon and he's waaay better. His ribs are improving by the day as are his foot bones so he's doing some walking and hanging in there pretty well for the most part. He had his first scrub-down bath-wise since the incident so that made a big difference in his attitude, too. The lung is working well also.
I'll let him fill you in on further details but just wanted to let you all know that he's a tough old bird and doing good!

I conducted some research on the Periwinkle color of this particular bike.....There seems to be good reason that many of the parts are coming up as parts from crashed bikes. Not sure if it has to do with the cagers fixating on the color of the wheels and endangering the rider and bike, or the twisted F%$# that chose to buy a bike with that color of wheel. Either way, the parts are plentiful and I am changing the F%$# color this weekend.
Most happy to have met you Hein and you are most welcome to join me for a ride any time. Not that we had a chance to ride with your late arrival. Your very Orange FJ would have made some good conversation at the camp fire the night before. Your choice of wine and smoked cheese went well with the campfire. Stay in touch and ride safe.
Not sure if this works as a link. All the pics I took, not many and some are more for my kids. Some are out of focus, the vid shows the double rainbow, hard to see unless you look towards the end of the vid. I want to see pics from Marsh's camera. Henry had some good pics.

Yeah...I can just picture next year with a gaggle of them girls posing for pictures while climbing all over our FJ's. Then later when viewing the pics....What Purple wheel???, I don't even see any FJ's in the pictures...There is not single motorcycle in any of these pictures....Have to move this post to a Non-FJ section. The wives and girlfriends are shaking fingers at me saying that is not Purple...its Blue.
I got a laugh out of Mike when one them girls gave me $5 change for the raffle tickets from her bra....Told him that I was never spending that $5 bill.

Glad you two made it home, and survived riding the Gorge. It can be a very dangerous ride when the wind is blowing. A few times I've almost been blown into the center concrete median. Dunno what's worse.. riding in the wind or riding the Gorge at night..
Hey guys, back online. I'm still in Loomis at my son's house resting my broken bones. Having your 3 year old grand daughter bring you pain meds and protien shakes is waaay too precious to pass up.

Learning from the experiences of others is THE most valuable asset this forum provides. Pat, just 'cuz of you I stopped on a decreasing radius blind corner this morning and cleaned all the gravel /sand offa it. Got a few looks from the passing cars as I kicked stones off the road wearing all my gear, but maybe they'll ponder on it some! Heal well and quickly,

Pat, Dude, seriously.
This crashing business, its not for the likes of us, lets stop it immediately.
Janny, she be less than impressed, yeah?
Damn, Pat. Why'd ya have to go and mess up a beautiful machine by sliding on some sand? :ireful:
Seriously, heal fast and heal well. Then after the bike is all fixed up, take care of yourself, too.
Hope you got a good sponge bath in the hospital. Hopefully, your nurse's name wasn't "Vinny".

Damn, Pat. Why'd ya have to go and mess up a beautiful machine by sliding on some sand? :ireful:
Seriously, heal fast and heal well. Then after the bike is all fixed up, take care of yourself, too.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Heal well Father Pat!!! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
Will do, thanks guys. :drinks:
Yea Klav, you nailed it, she was not impressed :bomb:
Maybe I'll have Jannie pick out the new paint colors....
She's a Designer after all
So I'm shopping for one o' them chest protectors, now. Not in the mood to meet Vinny!
If there's a chance of a double rainbow again next year we'll have to invite The Bear. Yosemitebear Mountain Giant Double Rainbow 1-8-10 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI#)
Sorry to hear about the slide Pat -- I am glad you are doing well and hope for a speedy recovery. June has been busy - a week after the rally myself and a few buds went on our annual Boys Trip to the Hoover from Cottonwood Cove.... on my other Yamaha 1100.
Good trip as well -- only difference is Wet roads were a must. (http://fjowners.com/gallery/2/596_19_06_11_12_25_59.jpeg)
I have posted some pics on the West Coast Rally photo link as well as more can be found via this link as well

I think K-man means WCR 2012 you have a whole year to plan.
By the way have we heard anything from the ranch have we been invited back or is it back to Willits???
I am ok with Willets and or the Ranch -- the one thing about the ranch I didn't like is that is was a little too remote. If riding all the way it make life tough from the stand point of getting supplies. Willets was just a stone's throw away for all the good stuff your can't bring on the bike.
I don't mind either though -- if the ranch happens again.
stevecc
I'm with Steve on this one. The Ranch was a nice location, but REALLY REMOTE. A long drive (from the highway) in a F350, plus a long haul from LA to the exit. Actually only a few more miles than Willts, but WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY out there.
OTOH, Im kinda bored with Willits too. Any word on the more southern loop for 2012? Marsh?
