Kick Ass organization - as seems to be your norm.
I'll volunteer the 5th deposit if you still need it. (Soon as December gets here - that's only wednesday)
Anything special to do, or just stick it in the mail and call it good?

Thanks Andy! I'm REALLY excited about this place - I think it will be phenomenal!
I'm still waiting to receive the contract in the mail (don't worry though - we are locked in for the place). Once I receive it and sign it I'll get those who have volunteered to pony up the deposit the address to send it to and who to make the check out to. Don't forget to sign up via the form!
Cool beans Marsh! Way to go laddie, you scored. If you need another deposit, give me a call. Pat

Scored... this is a Grand Slam!!
This is cheaper than the KOA
We get 3 meals a day
Bathrooms down the hall
The roads will be at our doorstep
The only problem I see is that there is live stock on the grounds, so we are going to have to watch Kman 24/7
Seriously this should be a Great Rally.

Can't wait - plotting my way up north now. Lots of options -- who all is riding up and if so when - ( from the LA area)

This year sounds like its gonna be the best yet! Still haven't recovered from missing last years so the Blackbird and I will be prepared!
Make sure you make it Jason! It will be a life long memory - I assure you! :good2:

Welcome to Amurka, Klavdy. How long you been state-side? I'd be keen to hear your impressions on how it rides, what you like/ don't like/ want to change etc, compared to the FJ. Also, I wonder about your impressions on build quality and mechanical sustainability if you have the time and inclination... I have been watching Aprilia with interest for some time.
On another note, do watch out for the pine cones; are you some kind of glutton for punishment heading to a place called "Lone Pine" (cone)? :)
Just asking...

Haha!
Fluffy seems to like it,I haven't even seen the damn thing yet, let alone ridden it.
He reckons it goes great, maybe he'll give us the down low.
Mechanically and fit/finish wise, they are a magnificent marque.
Ask Gazza.
I'd looked at all sorts of bikes, from hotted up 2nd Gen FZ1's to the Ducati Multistrada, read a lot of reviews and haunted various forums.
Always liked the cut of the Aprillia jib, so now I've got an inline four (my Aussie FJ) a triple in the Tiger 1050 and now a V-Twin Italian sports-bike.
I didn't want a full on race rep, too uncomfortable for long rides so the Aprillia Mille based Tuono got the nod.
The price was right and it had a lot of good mods, Sargeant seat, couple of common and niggling electrical faults permanently sorted,(after-market starter relay and a couple of connectors, bit like replacing the R/R on the FJ's)some other stuff like a Ti exhaust can, MRA touring screen etc.
It will score a few more bits and pieces, a Moto-Fizz tail bag, (http://www.dansbikeshop.biz/p/moto-fizz-review.html)

Quite the multi-continental fleet you have there Klavdy. If you were looking to round that out, you could add a Ninjette 250 (parallel twin) I've said it before, but they more fun than you think to ride. I've personally done 400 mile trips on mine and it's just not left behind very often at all. Similar to thrashing you little sister's bike to within inches of it's life (with no apparent mechanical ill-effects) -without all the embarrassment...
Additionally, you'll need a Suzy Savage (1 cylinder), an RC149 (5), a CBX, or Goldwing if you prefer (6), a Guzzi, (60 degree twin), and let's not forget the Suzy RE5 Wenkel, you'll need one of those too.
This is not to say I'm not already jealous of your fleet as it stands, just providing suggestions...
Dan
Ninja 250?
That's a GURLS bike, right Bean?
Nah, just funning with Bean, I've sung the praises of the Kawasaki 250 for years, the Honda 250 XL type trail bike too.
Dunno why the mindset persists that a learner bike has to be at least a 650.

XR650 duh
Hmm, if I get a dirt bike, (you can road register them in Aus) it would probably be a Suzuki DRZ 400 (http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/Reviews/Suzuki/DRZ400/DRZ400_text.html)
I was thinking about a DRZ400 a while back and found this video - nuts!
DRZ 400 SM supermoto super moto jump (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYu7DQn5vAI#)
Stuart
DRZ400s are nice light fun bikes for sure. The reason I like the XR650l is pure versatility. I have literally gone from all day single track in the woods (where it feels incredibly heavy) to WFO on the slab, knobbies and all (where it feels incredibly light). All it ever needs is oil gas and tires. XRs are really at their best at speed in the desert.
If the time should ever come that I have to choose among the motorcycles, it'll probably be the XR.
Got a off topic here, but, I'm studying the calendar trying to work out a plan to attend the WCR. I really enjoyed riding many of the roads last years WCR touched on. Twisties and splitting lanes in SF traffic on a Goldwing loaded for cold weather camping was a riot.

Took my DR650 for a scrub and road thrash with mates on KLR650`s last weekend. I had been thinking of selling it due to the time/love of my 2 FJ`s. Over the past 4 years I have dropped the DR down 2 cliff edges and at least a dozen spills in excess of 80klm/hr. Have hit 2 trees and driven through one. (must learn how to load up pics). It`s usually fully rigged with camping gear and has some mods to the suspension (Ohlims) and only breathing & jetting mods along with a homemade screen for the long miles outback, averaging 140klms/hr for hours sometimes) - . But it just keeps getting up and flying. Anyhow on a particular knarly river crossing on Saturday I explained to one of the novices why it`s best to stay on the pegs and let the machine bounce off the hidden boulders so that your body mass isn`t also being thrown around and you remain in control. So with an "I`ll show ya how it`s done" brevado I charged off across this particular creek, hit two submerged, big slippery boulders, went arse over head and totally drowned my loyal steed. ---- (Don`t ya hate it when ya mates reach a stage that their fists are slapping the ground, tears are coming out their eyes, mouths are open but the laughter has died to a faint whimper cause their larynx can`t take it anymore)
Anyhow she dribbled water from the carbie for about 10 mins after we got her to the edge, turned over the motor with plug leads off at first. Rolled her back across the creek, up the bank and then got a tow via a smirking KLR 650. Took about 500 metres and she was flying again. Another 100klms before all the water vapour was out of the oil window and another 100klms before we reached our accomodation - the Historic Theebine pub.(another story) She never missed a beat all Sunday. - You mention the word "Versatile" and my hand goes up for my thumper DLR650. Guess who`s now, never going to sell his DR. Doug :good:
Looks like the streets of downtown San Francisco - I'll run the Fj over that junction and report my findings

I haven't consider the 395 route -- but will do now. It is a nice ride been up that way many times -- be sure to take the June Lake loop if time permits.
Let me know a plans solidify...I don't work until Monday late aft so making a two day'r home is possible.

It looks like I'll be working in Carlsbad (south of LA) a good bit this spring and summer, and I'm looking at attending this rally with my son. He had a blast riding the 250 Ninja at Tellico (didn't get left behind at all) and it'd be a hoot to ride up the Pacific Coast and get to the WCR. One plan is to ride the Ninja 250 out there from Georgia and rent a bike for myself. An alternate plan is to ride the FJ out there and just buy a Ninja 250 for him to ride up the coast and back again, and then sell it (or ride it back across country with me later in the summer - maybe to the Colorado August rally!) Either way, if I wind up at the WCR with a 250 Ninja, everyone's welcome to try it. They are a blast, and I don't mind switching bikes with my son on the superslab. (He has a bit of trouble balancing the FJ because its rear ride height is raised way up on the Penske, so frequent stop-n-go is a pain for him and it'd be worse with a Rally's worth of luggage. But on the highway, he says switching to the FJ is "like pressing the Easy button.")

You're not intending to ride a Ninja 250, across country from GA to CA, 2-up are you? It's not clear from the above. I'm guessing that the your son would fly in later -right? That might be a bit much for the Ninjette.
Anyway, sounds like a great time. I rode my 250 this past fall just as fast is it would go, along the PA turnpike for maybe 120 miles... Top speed varied between an indicated 104 and 115 (down hill with a tail wind). And it hummed along happily at that varied speed for more than an hour. I suspect it'd do fine cross country. Just remember the golden rule of riding a 250: NEVER back the throttle off WOT or touch the brake for that matter, unless it's required to not die or wreck. :)
Your plan, and rides sound like fun.
Dan
Mr Bean (Garth), brought a 250 ninja to the 2010 wcr and some of the guys rode and said it was a blast. It got used for the after the real ride fun toy.
Quote from: Dan Filetti on February 19, 2011, 01:09:29 PMYou're not intending to ride a Ninja 250, across country from GA to CA, 2-up are you?
Nah, no two-up riding for me, not even on the FJ. Wife doesn't like being a passenger and won't let me take my stepdaughter outside the neighborhood on a bike. (Too bad, she'd love getting dropped off at middle school on a bike.) Son has a license now and can ride on his own. (Good closeout deals on 2-piece RoadCrafter stuff in his size.) The most exciting possibility would be riding cross-country with my son on the two bikes, if schedules allow, and then up the PCH to the rally.
But if the Ninja goes west, yeah, it'd be with only one person on it.
That's great news Bill. Perhaps we can get a couple of day rides in before the WCR? Palomar, Mt Laguna, Julian, Black Mesa, Borrego, etc, etc....lots of good riding out here! You gonna bring your Miata? Cheers! Pat
Sounds cool Bill! I hope you and your son can make it to this year's WCR! I wish I had a spare bike to let you borrow - but sadly I don't. Carlsbad isn't too far from many of us SoCal FJers...keep us posted and let us know if we can help out in any way!
Hey Bill,
I live in East San Diego county. Pat is right about the great roads we have out here. Be more than happy to show you around as well.
Are you moving into the area or just here on work assignment? If you are moving here, my wife and I are both real estate agents and can email you listings if you like. Just offering and no pressure.
CraigO

I'm scheduled to be there on/off for a work assignment. I'm in Lemoore as we speak, supposedly through March or April (couple weeks here, couple weeks back east, rinse/repeat) and on to SoCal when we finish up here. My wife is a west coast gal, and she needs to spend a bit of time in Riverside dealing with family / house issues this spring. She also has childhood friends in the Bay Area and in Eureka. Ideally, she'd be able to fly out with my stepdaughter and camp(*) with us for the rally, maybe visiting friends before & after. (*These days, she says "camping" for her means "a cabin where you may have to put on shoes and go outdoors to get to the bathroom / showers." I think the Bar 717 sounds just about our speed.) I don't know if I can match "Iron Butt" Mike's pace (he rode basically non-stop from Redding to get to Tellico last fall!) but there may be time to go to Boone, ride cross country, get to Hayfork, and then go down the PCH to get back to work in a decent amount of time.
My boss is headed to Spain to in a month to do some work there. I have my hand raised for any work that comes up in Italy, but we'll see. ("That always means 'no.'" - Lenny, The Simpsons) But if the schedules work out right, I may be able to make it to Boone, ride out to California for the rally, and make it to the Colorado rally in August before returning to Tellico in September. (I better get with RPM Randy about a carb rebuild kit and a jet kit, though.) I have hardly ridden at all for the last couple of years - I don't think I did 5,000 miles in the last 3 years. This summer, I hope to make up for it.
Getting to ride with all y'all would be awesome.
Bill, I'm in Oceanside -- very close to Carlsbad ... if you want to ride let me know your plans

They are better than the Cherohala, better than the uphill run from that park on the 20 to Willits, really about the best roads I've ridden in the U.S.

If you boys do Palomar let me know as well -- its is down the road for me. Klavdy -- a nice run is 76 to Palomar then down the backside - back to the 76 East -- stopover at the Hideout. Leave via Mesa Grande - end up at the 79 - go south to 78 then head to Julian. From there you can head for more fun down the 79. I also know a back way to come full circle -- very scenic but slow and all paved. Let me know --PM us

I am game to just hook up with anyone from here and do Palomar/Mesa Grande/Wynola/Julian/Sunrise Hwy/Buckman Springs/94 on down to San Diego some weekday. Weekends are always bad for me as I have professional obligations most times.

That's a great run, how's about we do it after the Rally?
Prefer to do it through the week though, especially Palomar and I read about the CHP targeting the Ortega?
Can do it after - anytime that makes sense for you. Ortega has some construction going on it right now -- I think they close it nightly but I will have to check to see whats going on with it.

Hummm, are we working on bikes during the WCR??? Seems like some of the pictures of past rallies are working under tarps in the rain to get one or more FJ's up to snuff for the the next days ride....Rain? Maybe the picks are from the east side.....my bad sorry. Hard to think that some wrenching is NOT going to happen. Kind of like a "small" camp fire, or only 16 ounces of Red cap to share, potato cannons limited to 0.25 caliber and under 100 FPS. Stories of how fast we were, gotta stop now. I can't wait.....
It seems that folk can bring whatever they want to a Rally, and that "Colourtune" would be good to see up close and in action.
The beauty of these shindigs are that if you don't feel like riding and would love to just kick back at camp, more power to you!
It's a beaut social occasion, for some the ride to the Rally is enough and it's a nice place we're going to.
Yeah! Bring your tools, there's always some mechanicking going on, mind you, bringing a buggered bike and kind of expecting it to get rebuilt is frowned on.
See you there real soon,,,
Dunno about you blokes but I'm getting excited, less than a month and I'll be riding in the U.S.
Pretty much got my shit sorted, bike, gear, route etc: me & Fluffy will do some last minute tweaks like bolting on the GPS and setting up the comms systems, then its off and riding!
Yay!
Been looking up stats for the weather on this site (http://www.accuweather.com/us/ca/weaverville/96093/forecast-month.asp) and it looks like it should be perfect riding temps through the day with just a touch of chill at nights to make the fires even moar bettah!

CRAP!!! Klavdy...That's what the pine-cone looked like after you hit it.... I hope you did not cook it up, its a veggie.
I know I said I was done with the pine-cone jokes but this one just screamed at me, I could not help myself, smite me if you dare!!!!! :diablo:
Well everyone.. my attendance at the rally is up in the air at the moment. There are a number of things that are making it difficult...
Weather.. I haven't even put the key in the ignition of the FJ since last November. To give you an idea of things, so far for April we've had nearly 6 inches of rain and only 3 days where it has reached 60 degrees. They say nicer weather is coming but I'm not holding my breath. This week we've had over two feet of fresh snow in the mountains and it's damn near May...
Mr. Bean the clutz.. While changing work locations I had a fall outside the building a couple of weeks ago in the rain and messed myself up rather nicely. I slipped on some wet bricks while carrying stuff and went down on my bad foot. While I did not break it again, I did sprain the foot and my ankle really bad. I pulled the tendons off the bones again and likely tore up the scar tissue inside. Also in the fall I tweaked my back (and such) from the base of my skull all the way to the bottom of my lower back bad enough my spine is pulled out of alignment. I am able to walk and get around but I don't stand up quite straight and have limited movement. I have my good and bad days. I am trying to see my chiropractor twice a week as required but there's something getting in the way of that..
Work... Huge layoffs about a month ago in the I.T. department. While I was able to remain employed but, my job and project were scrapped and I have been demoted back to the help desk along with my co-worker and now former boss. I am the one person to handle the entire corporate office and getting coverage for anytime I need to leave is a challenge. Things are bad enough it was nearly a week before I could get away from work to have my foot looked at. I've had cancel appointments and even leave doctor visits because of being called back to work. We are very short staffed and there are no plans to hire any additional staff.. ever.. We have a few other people at another location in Portland that cover our mile long manufacturing facility. Plus we have to provide support for all of our locations scattered around the U.S.
With being short staffed and difficult to find coverage the chances of any vacation is very, very slim. If the weather forecast holds for Sunday, I'll get the FJ out for a spin and see how my foot and back feel. There still is a decent amount of time before the rally to get healed up but it is a wait and see thing. If worse comes to worse I can perhaps make it down for a visit Saturday evening and ride back with Brian on Sunday morning.
I hope this doesn't come off as bitching, whining, moaning, etc. It is not my intention.. Needless to say my mood over the past few months hasn't been the greatest thus I haven't posted much. Hopefully I can get on the FJ this weekend for some mental therapy and do some wrenching on it. Very glad I bought the lift table as there's no way I can work on the bike any other way right now.

I hope things start to go a bit more your way, and we'll think of you (Drinks Bitch?) in Hayfork.

I am breaking my balls to make this rally, my boss is letting me sneak some custom things through the fabrication shop to finish my ass end modification. I want to meet as many of the WCR club as I can. Two wheels or 4, you can make it.
Garth, that sucks :negative:
Bad weather , messed up health, job worries. If anybody deserves some time on a fj you do.
It will be an incomplete rally without out official fire starter there. :cray:
If you can get to the rally I could bring a Suzuki gs500 for you to ride.
try to get well and keep us informed. :empathy:
Garth,
Hope you get better soon and can make the Rally. Its in Hayfork so that will cut some of your ride/drive time off the trip. Hope you can make it.
Besides if you are not there Marsh will start the campfires :negative:

Fixeded it for ya!
All is not lost.
Your current physical bother is ideal for taking a 'justified' sick day or three.
Gently exercising ankles on fj controls will be just the rehabilitating physiotheraphy your body needs.
Camping out on firm bedding will re-align the twists in yer back.
To avoid inclement weather travel south, which is a handy, California being placed as it is in relation to Oregon.
All is cured
See you in one month
Bad news, my buddy Paul aka "sometimes ya jus gotta lay her down" broke the tips of 2 of his fingers at work. Long and ring fingers....Nasty, major pain.
It's his right hand, nothing important going on with his right hand, just the throttle and front brake.....Anyhoo he will not make the WCR.
Therefore....I have a extra blue '92 ready to go....
That's terrible news about Paul, mate.
Who you going to spoon with now?
Dunno...I don't troll the bars anymore....any suggestions?

Hello fellers!!
Great to see the FJ gang is in full swing and gearing up for Hayfork in another 11 days! I've missed seeing your mugs the last couple of years so I thought I'd better get my act together and make this epic event. Hope you'll have me even if my FJ can't make it. I can't wait to get on the road, especially the one with the number 36 signs on it!
So I'll look forward to pulling in some time Thursday and seeing some old and good faces.
In the meantime, I thought I'd contribute this link to some great pics to get you even more in the mood. Grab a beverage, turn up your own music and hit play. See ya soon and ride safe ... but haul ass!

Hey guys. I wish I could take credit for those shots but cannot. I pulled the link off of another forum ... just thought I'd post them up to wet your rally whistle a bit.

Frank
rain?!?!? Really?! EVERY DAY! :negative:
Brian and I are heading out in about an hour.
Looks like a rain filled ride down. Stopping in Grants Pass for the night.
See everyone Thursday! :good2:
Klavdy and I rode over Donner pass today in a total white out snow blizzard for over an hour. It was cold! Snow caking over the faceshield every couple of seconds...
We have a place at Donner Lake and usually have a beach cleanup and opening for the POA beach on Memorial Day weekend... it was cancelled last week due to too much snow! I'm ready for some summer!

Global warming has been officially re-named 'climate change' to cover such embarrassing contradictions...
Brian and I make it to Grants Pass a bit cold and a little wet. Rained about 90% of the way here. One 30 mile plus section was a mixture of very heavy rain and hail with near zero visibility trying to keep up with the cagers and trucks so we didn't get run over. Pucker factor was a little high.
Sounds like Marsh and Kman had a good time as well.
Kicking back in the hotel room, drying out gear...Sun is out, but it's pouring down rain.
It's 90 degrees freaking hot in Arkansas. But the roads are nice and dry!
DavidR.
Meh, what's a little rain when there's a Rally on?

All packed and ready to leave by morning. I am not doing that snow crap!! Hell, rain is bad enough, 10 months of slab every other week between LA and San Jose, got rained on every trip. Sometimes both ways.... Gonna try and have fun anyway. See ya all soon.

Gathering ice for drinks mate?
Yeah!
Jeez, it was cold, Fluffy is off soaking himself in a public hot tub, full of huge, lardy, unwashed arse crack Seppo's, wallowing in their own filth and bodily secretions.
The dirty bastards don't bathe or shower before they get into these tub things so they basically sit there stewing in their own juices.
He cannot fathom why I find the whole idea unappealing.

time off was revoked at last minute , wifes sister in a car accident ,medical adviser strongly suggests not to ride in the rain due to my lung issue and complications that will arise from that much moisture .
so I would lose my job , lose my mind and catch pneumonia if I went.
Tragic ....goddamnsombitch
arse biscuits, that's untimely news.
Fear not Marky Mark, because as you know, next years rally will be even better than this one, since that has been an observable pattern throughout these gatherings.
I notice that Craig Z's not signed up. Is he also off the guest list???

Actually had a decent ride on Friday before the rain set us to drinking... Pat, Gary, Henry, and I came back via 36W and 101S yesterday with tremendous conditions. The others stayed and probably got some good riding in on Sat.
The reason for no communications is the remoteness of the location. No cell coverage, WiFi that had encryption nobody knew how to break (and the 717 manager didn't know the code for ??). Despite weather, I believe a good time was had by all and we're likely going back there next year.
Great job Marsh on setting this one up. It was my first, but surely not the last. Met so many really interesting and wonderfully normal folks and am delighted I rode the 8ish hours to get there from San Jose. Looking fwd to the mini-rally in Sac later this summer.
Flynt
The wireless at the ranch was locked down via MAC address control. If I had brought my work laptop I likely could have got in with the tools I have installed on it. Lets wait and see if they are up for having us back next year before we ask them to open up the wireless to us. If they really don't know how it is setup, there are enough geeks around to "fix" anything and/or everything. :)
Yes, very remote location and I guess the only cell provider to work up there was Verizon, and I'm sure it wasn't very good coverage.
I noticed a HughesNet dish over the kitchen. I bet if a few of us got onto their network, we'd burn their month allotment of data in 5-10 minutes. I think max allowable is 5Gb/month ...
The locals at Irene's Diner indicated that Verizon was the only mobile carrier in the area, and 'the area' did not include Bar 717 ranch, nor anything outside of Hayfork.

No, wrong kind of Fluffer.
It's short for "The Fluffer King."
He is well regarded and highly respected Pornographer, with many accolades garnered from his peers and fellow designers in the Gay porn website industry.
Mmmm, ever had a Fluffernutter? That's good. Just not as healthy as the pleasure would lead you to expect.
