Sounds cool Bill!  I hope you and your son can make it to this year's WCR!  I wish I had a spare bike to let you borrow - but sadly I don't.  Carlsbad isn't too far from many of us SoCal FJers...keep us posted and let us know if we can help out in any way!

Hey Bill,

I live in East San Diego county.  Pat is right about the great roads we have out here.  Be more than happy to show you around as well.

Are you moving into the area or just here on work assignment?  If you are moving here, my wife and I are both real estate agents and can email you listings if you like.  Just offering and no pressure.

I'm scheduled to be there on/off for a work assignment.  I'm in Lemoore as we speak, supposedly through March or April (couple weeks here, couple weeks back east, rinse/repeat) and on to SoCal when we finish up here.   My wife is a west coast gal, and she needs to spend a bit of time in Riverside dealing with family / house issues this spring.  She also has childhood friends in the Bay Area and in Eureka.  Ideally, she'd be able to fly out with my stepdaughter and camp(*) with us for the rally, maybe visiting friends before & after.  (*These days, she says "camping" for her means "a cabin where you may have to put on shoes and go outdoors to get to the bathroom / showers."  I think the Bar 717 sounds just about our speed.)  I don't know if I can match "Iron Butt" Mike's pace (he rode basically non-stop from Redding to get to Tellico last fall!) but there may be time to go to Boone, ride cross country, get to Hayfork, and then go down the PCH to get back to work in a decent amount of time.

My boss is headed to Spain to in a month to do some work there.   I have my hand raised for any work that comes up in Italy, but we'll see.  ("That always means 'no.'" - Lenny, The Simpsons)  But if the schedules work out right, I may be able to make it to Boone, ride out to California for the rally, and make it to the Colorado rally in August before returning to Tellico in September.  (I better get with RPM Randy about a carb rebuild kit and a jet kit, though.)  I have hardly ridden at all for the last couple of years - I don't think I did 5,000 miles in the last 3 years.  This summer, I hope to make up for it.

Getting to ride with all y'all would be awesome.

Man oh man, if, as I recall, you said you've never ridden the 36 and Hayfork Pass, you are in for a treat.
They are better than the Cherohala, better than the uphill run from that park on the 20 to Willits, really about the best roads I've ridden in the U.S.
The scenery is superb, traffic near non existent and the surface was great!
We've got that great big Ranch all to ourselves too, this is going to be so cool,,,

When TSA finishes the full body search at the airport... call me and we will ride up to Palomar or out Fr. Pat's way so you can become one with your new bike. It will be a great turn up for the WCRally that's in 64 days.

Hey LA Mike,

If you want to hook up for a ride over Palomar, IM me some time. I live in San Diego and would love the chance to hook up with you guys on a ride down here.  I am really going to be tied up the during July, hence my absence at the rally but still would love to ride with other FJ's.

Let me know,
