Make sure you get the right e tubes for your FJ1100 carbs.
The e tubes for the early carbs with the flat bottom slides are different than the e tubes used on the later FJ1200 carbs with the curved bottom slides.

Randy @ RPM knows this, all other shops (like Factory Pro) do not.  If you got the e tubes from Randy, you're gonna be ok.

Before you buy a new set, first send your carb's to Randy and ask his opinion.

Carbs are buggered by me and dynojet mods.

Do you mean they are beyond repair? Or are you planning to send them to RPM for some carb Mojo? If you still need to ride it I can loan you my carbs off my '86. They are set too lean for open pipes but can get you by for a few weeks.

The last attempt was to install main nozzle and pilot jets .Wrong main nozzles modified(butchered) pilot jets mangled then tried to extract with ez outs mangled more, completely
drilled out #2 carb pilot can't change the others too buggered to back them out. Reassembled as best I could:(   The bike starts and idles even to a RPM of about 3k on choke and at moments even higher. I'm convinced its a carb issue not electrical or coils. So ....(1) a used set of carbs , (2) a new set of carbs(RPM) ,(3) ship my carbs to RPM to undo the dynojet and my buggery , (4) New fuel injection complete from late model FJ , (5) part it out buy a Prius.
What say you Forum ?

Cash

PS in escrow for a place in Palm Springs just off Hwy 74 besides all that other stuff!!!

Send them to RPM and get a quote... Decide after the quote...

I would lay low for a good used set of carbs and rebuild. Problem is making sure that a used set from "flea bay" as an example is not buggered up. Shop carefully.  Contact Randy he might have a used set for sale or other options.  Perhaps if just one carb is buggered up you might get by with buying a single used carb from a parts set of carbs.  Step 1: call RPM.

Originally my bike was set up with "Dyno Junk" jets, needles and springs.  I converted them back to all Mikuni parts and have never looked back.

I might have some spare parts from my original '86 carbs....

If it's off Hwy 74 then that would not be in Palm Springs, but in Palm Desert, so welcome neighbor.
If you've never ridden a bike on Hwy 74 you're in for a treat. The road has a fresh overlay, smooth as silk.

Back to the carbs: Send them to Randy, see if he can save them. He has lots and lots of parts...lots.
Worse case: find a FleaBay set, then send those to Randy. Don't fuck up another set.

Oh the memories, thanks for posting those up. I remember your disbelief about the dirt in the carbs when you sent them to me the second time; quite a difference from the stock filter to those K&N's. Glad you are happy with the RPM pod filters and I assure you they will not be that dirty the next time.

Then there is the link to Randy's (not a lib) carbs too...those were probably the worst set of carbs I have ever received and was able to resurrect.

Cash, if you want to send me what you have and we can see if they can be salvaged. Please send me the original e-tubes and all of the other original parts you might still have as well.

But hey, that was the way they were when I got 'em...  :pardon:

(4) New fuel injection complete from late model FJ
Sadly, no such thing. FJ never got FI.

XJR eventually did, but you are in US, so no XJR anything for you. Plus, a complete XJR FI system wouldn't be particularly cheap.

Randy at RPM has an FI system for the FJ, he needs access to a dyno to complete the mapping. The FI is so much more efficient with fuel it pulls like a 1350. No more cold starts or messing with the choke. Going up in the hills 10,000 feet and it still pulls hard for passing them slow tourists. How much does a good dyno cost? Maybe enough of us could pitch in do a group buy and get the FI finished for the FJ.

Randy has a prototype. Once he gets the mapping down, he will need to get it into production. This will take time. Much as I hate to say it, but carbs are available now and are cheaper than that system will be once it hits production.

Oh, don't rub it in... I'd LOOOOVE a FI FJ.

Dyno tuning shops advertise renting time on theirs at about $130 an hour. I'm guessing buying a dyno is probably in the vicinity of 15K.

Cash,

Yes you did spend a little over $400.00 with us in total, but the actual carb rebuild was only $325.00.

What bumped it up over the $400.00 mark was the air filters, shipping & sales tax.

Glad to know it is now running properly, I know it has been a long hard road to this point with a lot of work on your part.

Thanks again and enjoy the ride.

Don't forget to add the Seafoam if you are going to let the bike sit for more than a couple of weeks.

I guess if weather permits we can run the Crest this weekend (Sat is better for me). We cannot run the full Crest, seasonal closure so we can go as far as the tunnel then have to head back. So the actual run up is about 35 miles and then back. And a stop at Newcomb's Ranch for food, drink and see what other bikes are there.

Any SoCal riders interested? We can make it a longer ride by shooting north from the Crest. Angels Forest HWY is a fast sweeper ride. This gets us near Elizabeth Lake road, not exciting but it leads to Bouquet CYN or San Francisquito CYN.  Bouquet CYN has a motorcycle stop called Big Oaks, food, drinks, and restroom if needed. From San Francisquito CYN we can also take Spunky CYN back to Bouquet CYN, the first part is boring residential. The second half is tight, technical and opens up to great view of the reservoir.  Or we could take Big Tujunga over to Little Tujunga and run North up Sand CYN (also tight and technical) then up Bouquet CYN.

Yes, all good, small tweaks electrical stuff. Runs great sorting out stuff, checking bolts, reacquainting with the bike's handling and a new favorite Hyw 74.
RPM did a great job.
