will these mirrors work??(just making sure before i buy)

HARTLESS

I just ordered some that look the same as Freds for $21 on flea bay. I have the stock mounts so hopefully i will not need a drill press. I guess we will just have to see how cheap they are... :) as long as the reflect anything I think ill be happy. I hope ill be happy :wacko1:

I mounted these earlier this week and I'm happy to say that ( with the help of Monkey Mark's angled mirror adapter idea) they work!.. I finally can clearly see what is behind me with just a glance.

FJmonkey, if you ever start making these angled adapters as part of your Monkey Made parts selection, I'll take a set. I used your idea and fabricated these  out of some maple stock.  They work, but , well, wooded parts on a motorcycle...? 


The mirrors are better quality than the ebay CBR 600 mirrors I had on before.  Less vibration and a better quality reflection. It's noticeable.  And of course the stalks are 2"+ longer than I had before.

I don't know if these mirrors will work on an '89 fairing without using the angled adapters.  The mirrors are rotated about 180* to where they are designed to be, and the stalks extended forward enough so that they just have enough adjustment to work, and it appears that they would not have had enough adjustment without the adapters.  I did not have the patience to try it without the adapters just for kicks.

I think that on the 91 + fairings the mirror bracket is at a different angle (better for this mod) than the previous models.  Perhaps someone can confirm this?








In order to have the necessary adjustment capability, the stalks need to be rotated forward quite a bit.  The clutch lever touches the stalk at full lock but otherwise does not interfere with the steering.




Angled Adapter:





They don't fit to the FJ mounting bracket just out of the box.  You're going to have to use a flat file to make the CBR mounting area narrower and take some material off of the outside diameter.

Wow, I guess you don't split lanes like we do here in Kalifornia.... The adapters I had made were machined with permission from my manager at work. In fact all the Monkey made parts are sanctioned, but sheet metal parts are so easy I always get a yes to make a small batch. I really don't ask anymore to make machined parts unless they are really simple/easy. But I will post op if the opportunity strikes.

Mark I love them extra lights....hard to set up and power up?...I take some serious dark roads home from work...hit a 6 point buck already and wife nearly smoked one too...with coons and other critters all over the place extra lighting would be nice

Martin Fabrication is where I got them (no affiliation) .  They've since gone out of business but I've seen these kits still for sale here and there on the internet.  http://www.amazon.com/Martin-Fabrication-Driving-Lights-Kawasaki/dp/B005298QFA 
They are pretty good as far as light.  Not great.  50watt halogens. They make an HID kit but were are pricey. They come with a relay and a remote on/off switch and are hooked to my Hi-beams.  I got a separate relay and harness for the headlight from Eastern Beaver that allowed for all of this.  So I can drive with low beam, high beam, or high beam with the driving lights.  I mounted them to the fairing.  Drilled through and backed them up with some washers to spread the load.  I put junctions in the wires at the fairing so I can disconnect them when I remove the fairing.

I've got them veered toward the ditches for the same reason you said.  I'd travel faster day and night there were no animal wild card.

Mark, be careful and don't get caught.... Fed DOT and most, if not all, state DOTs require that driving lights be incapable of being used with hi beams. it may even be against the law....

I recently purchased some mirrors from Global Bike Online through ebay right mirror their part number:  54280 (ebay 390608146670), left mirror their part number:  54281 (ebay 330913785170).  they arrived quickly (Chicago area U. S.).  They are not factory, but similar and work out well.  Slightly better view to the rear and dont't vibrate too much.  I have them on 3/4" thick clear plastic (poly carbonate, I think) I fabbed for the stock mirrors.

Thanks for the heads up.  I have them on all the time with the high beam during the day.

Just looking at this Honda 250 mirror thread and saw this little gem.
This is completely arse-about-face to Australia -  here it is illegal for driving lights to be on while using lo-beam. They can only be turned on when using hi-beam and must be able to be turned off separately to hi-beam.
