I would like to know if anyone else has named their machine and the reason behind it.... (popcorn)

The Wizard...

Reasons:

1. Wizards are cool,
2. This thing makes me ride like a Wizard,
3. The Wizard is magical and so is an old FJ with some modifications.

All sound about the same...  anyway, She's "The Wizard"

The motorcycle should have about 2-3 degrees of lean out, away from the sidecar. In no event should the bike be tilted toward the sidecar.

If you make a line 6 feet in front of the bike that is parallel to the motorcycle wheels on the left and the sidecar wheel on the right (a chalk line tied to jack stands or two long board along each side of the wheels works well for this measurement) there should be about 1½ inch of toe in (of course if it is 3 feet in front of the bike it would be about ¾ inch).

String gets a lot of mentions for this, and more commonly, rear wheel alignment. Given the fine measurements you are looking for, using a string line is not accurate enough. Using long boards, as you suggest, is fine if you can be sure they are straight. I use a couple of lengths of 25mm (1") square tube.

There is no way you can measure within a couple of degrees or anywhere near it with a string line over that distance, or line up your back wheel. The point of contact with the string on the wheel at such an acute angle is too vague.

While I haven't officially given mine a name, I always think of it as "Growler", due to the low engine rumble in 3rd gear when cruising around 35mph.

F **g Jet.

I was out riding with a group of friends at Sport Bike Rally in Parry Sound Ontario. They were all on their crotch rockets wailing up and down the gears. I just rolled on the grip. When they realised the FJ was no slouch They asked me If FJ stood for F**g Jet. Next week, The warden (wife) bought me a personalized licence plate.  FN JET

Bike is an 86. Owned the bike since 1990 got the plate around 92.

OPP cops has pulled me a few times expressing their concern for the plate being offensive but I just explained that it was legally issued by the ministry so they can take it up with them. Never heard back.
