hi, ive just purchased a 1990 model, it hasnt arrived yet but im reading that the jap home market bikes are restricted to 100 HP, can anyone shed some light on this? im starting to get worried that it will be a disapointing bike with only 100hp, thanks in advance, ken

Hi Ken.
As far as I am aware the restricted bikes have 28mm  id on the intake intake boots on the head side as apposed to unrestricted 32mm intake boots which are easily changed.Theres also a speed limiter in the 180km/h speedo.
this thread may help.

Hi Ken.
found a bit more info. Not sure if it applies to your bike..

http://micapeak.com/reg/view/FJ/all/2/375/YYYYYYY/

info entered by John Walsh in the UK......

Modifications: bought the bike in july 2001, its a japanese home market import and I did not realise it was restricted till after I had purchased and rode it I realised it didnot have the top end rush normally, IVE GOT ANOTHER FJ1200,also registered on this site so I know how they go. In order to make the bike perform uk spec I had to get another igniter unit as the one on it was retricted to 120 mph or 6000 rpm, if you disconect the speed device in the speedo then the rev limiter kicks in @ 6000rpm so theres no way round it fortunately Ilocated an igniter box for50.00. The next thing was jetting mains and pilots aprox half normal 60.00 from yamaha then inlet rubbers resticted so they were replaced with uk spec. airbox intake half blanked so I cut away the blanking plate. finally exhaust, only 20 mm outlet as opposed 23mm 3xw or 26mm 3cv or 1tx so Idrilled 8 mm holes at rear end of pipes and now have the required performance so anyone out there beware jap imports they are severely restricted.

Cheers  :drinks:

it seems like a fair bit of work to de-restict it considering i payed top dollar for a low k's bike, at the moment im considering what to do, ive payed for it but isnt to be transported till sometime on tuesday, thanks again , ken

ken65

well i read that again, honestly if the bike was restricted to 120 miles an hour, no worries, but only upto 6000 rpm would not cut it at all im afraid.

Those mods don't sound hard to pull off.

There's a <low mileage> tiger in a cage, you just gotta cut the lock and let it out!
