my starter on the turbo chopper skips, randomly, sometimes it doesn't engage at all, sometimes disengages mid crank, sometimes its fine...
is there any common problems for this or should i just get another starter?
doesnt bother me for a minute but will be a bit embarrasing out on the road.
cheers
You can't turn a pig into a racehorse... So lets see how fast we can make this pig go!!

It is not the starter, but the starter drive. The starter drive is not a serviceable item without the splitting of the cases.

If the oil is old, thinned with fuel or super thick it will have these issues. Change the oil a few times to clean the internal portions of the engine and hopefully the issue will go away.

I not you will have to split the cases and install the later model XJR sprag style starter drive which was designed to eliminate the issue you are having.
