I read the article, but what I miss is whether you bought a complete kit or constructed it yourselve completely.
There is a system available that works with reed switches near the gear change lever, but I prefer the system that works with modified "neutral switch plate", containing 5 extra contacts.
I am very curious how the electronic part of that can be constructed, since it needs to lower the voltage to appr. 5V (otherwise the 7 segment LED will blow) and it needs to adress the LED correctly.
When voltage is on lead 1 from the modified "neutral switch plate", the LED must be adressed to show1 etc ....

I bought the system that works with the sensors near the gear change lever

Anyway, I´m working with my friend Mingo to adapt the neutral switch plate from a Yamaha Venture Royal. Revising the parts fiche it looks like it is a straight bolt on

I will inform

Monkey majic and alf, you guys using 18/38 gearing, ive stopped searching for 6th gear since fitting them,,  :good2:

I've changed to 18/38 gearing but I'm still looking for 6th! Maybe its the vibes I have going through the bike at the moment that make it feel like its working harder than it is, not sure.

Alf,

does this imply that the mentioned gear indicator is a standard feature on the Venture ?

Alf,

I am not sure if you have read the other thread about this subject, but I stock the digital gear position selector shown in this thread; http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=2379.0

I do not have it listed on the website site yet as it is sitting in the box with the other 40-50 parts that still need to be added.

I will have to try and locate the invoice and/or call for current pricing.

Let's face it, your only ever going to confuse 4th and 5th and go looking for the elusive 6th, nothing a slight upwards pressure on the gear lever won't confirm.

As DavidR said some time back, this is pure gadget fetish.

He is of course right, and I want one, NOW! and I bet it cost a lot less than my digital tyre pressure/temp/volt gauge.

I fitted only to have the gadget, but I´m surprised that in fact it is very useful
