I also have fond memories of my 2 kids climbing on the back of the bike for a ride, they were always looking for ways to to have fun with dad.
I was just looking @ these and remembered the time my son & I went to the Moto GP @ Phillip Island a ride of 2000k's with my son who was 14 @ the time, thinking now I should've had a camera with me, it was a real boys time we spent over 2 weeks on the bike. On the Saturday night in Cowes at the party they have before the GP my young fella said hey there's Casey Stoner, sure enought there he was standing there with a couple of mates watching everything, the young fella sidled up and spoke to him, wished him good luck, just wished I'd had a camera, as Casey isn't that much older, even then thought he was going to be one of the best riders we produced, had seen him riding as a 10yr old on dirt bikes doing the short course championships in Canberra, ahhhhh memories a fine thing, enjoy it now while you can.
I also agree with the comments before you should always encourage your kids to wear the right equipment, if you start @ a young age it becomes 2nd nature, but @ the end of the day its your choice....... enjoy it while it lasts  :good2: :yahoo:

Cherish these fleeting times, they are over all too soon.

What Klavdy said.  A couple summers ago my son was home on leave and my daughter home from college.  I had a BMW RT at the time along with the FJ.  The wife and I actually got the two of them to go on a ride with us.  My daughter had the sense to bring a camera.  Nothing really special about the pics to the casual viewer, but awesome memories for me.  The stars and planets may never again align to permit a family ride like this.  When my daughter was in high school I picked her up from every soccer practice on the bike - until she started driving.  She not only was not ashamed, but she loved it.  She was a natural passenger from the start.  I kinda envy you guys with younguns still at home - and on the way.

Well Pat, here are the pics.  Won't do that again!

Simplicity of character is the natural result of profound thought.

To cool man. My daughter used to go with me once in a while. Nice pics.

This is an awesome thread.. Good on you guys for getting your kids on your bikes. As a child the highlights of my school holidays would be when we loaded up our family car and trailer with gear, Mum and my sis would drive that and I'd jump on the back of Dad's Honda FT400 and we'd meet them at the destination. Rides around the empty field next door when I was 4 or 5 are also well remembered by both me and all my friends who constantly pestered me to ask Dad to get the bike out on a Saturday..

James

Well it's taken a while but I went around to the folks place and did some scanning.. excuse the quality and random extra family shots but you get the idea.. here's me at about 6 on the back of dad's FT400 in the paddock next door.. bottom pic..

And here's me about 6 months later, I was 7 by then at a place called Wenderholm Regional Park about an hour away from home for a family and friends day out..

6 years later dad taught me how to drive in the trusty old '75 Corolla in the back ground, and started on lessons on the FT too...

Good times.. :good2:

At what age do people normally start having their Daughters/Sons ride with them ?
I can't wait to get my boys on the bike with me, but they are still too young to understand the concept of it yet.
I started my kids off at age 3.
You meet Cory, my oldest.
That's him on  the back and already has 3 years of riding with me under his belt.
My youngest, Curtis sitting in front, is just starting off with us at the time of this picture.
We'd ride around town, 3-up, like this several times during the summers.

These were wonderful times for me and sorry to say, that they are far to big to ride with me like this anymore.
This last picture was on Fathers Day 2011.
As you can see, we just don't fit the ol Suzuki like we used too! LOL!

Curtis used to fall asleep sitting in front of me.
That kid is still like that to this day, he can sleep almost anywhere!

This is an awesome thread!! Good on ya , Leon, to take the pictures!!!!!!  *Priceless*!!!!!

And then before you know it you're riding *with* them.  My 12 year old took this shot (with me on my TDM) of my 16 year old riding behind me on MY bike in Duluth Minnesota two weeks ago.  It was an overnighter with 550 miles clocked total, not bad for a 16 year old!

Great pics.   Reminds me of Bill Rockoff and his son..... they've been coming to rallys for years so we have been able to see his boy grow from passenger to 250 pilot (dang good pilot too) and now he is in college and on a bigger bike (500 ninja)   It's been fun to watch the progression over time.  :good2:

It won't take long, seems like this was taken yesterday... My 16 year old is behind me and my 12 year old is in front.  That's why it's 'Dads_FJ', I've had it longer then them!

Heard THAT.  One minute you're young and have a spiffy new bike.  Then you have kids and you're trying to decide "How old is old enough for a helmet & leather jacket?"  I decided "Age four" for surface-street trips to pre-K, when we found a Shoei XS helmet and a real leather jacket.  Next thing you know, they're coming with you on trips on the back of your bike.

...and before long, they're legal to ride on the street.

And before you know it, they get a bike of their own.

Yeah, motorcycling is even better when you share it with your kids.  (As opposed to, say, ice cream.)
