no   l uck finding bearings, had a machine shop make the shims/spacers to fit in the bearings to take the axle $10 for the pair , pressed in and bolted the wheel on , no issues so far  :good2:
Cool your answer works and is cheaper than mine. Every time i talk to them at the machine shop seems like every thing $100 plus.

i was lucky with the machine shop, went to buy the bearings from a local bearing supplier , nothing listed that would work, , suggested i go see his mate,   , the guy rides too, and his father owns an fj, , so i got the bikers discount  :good2:,, on the other hand, had a bushing made up for the f4i shock from the machine shop closer to home $40 charged by the minute i think  :scratch_one-s_head:,, and that was made from an industrial grade plastic , , now changed to roller bearings,,  (popcorn) , know where ill go next time  :wacko3:

In relation to this mod I have heard phrases such as 'plug n play' and slips right in!  The last person who said that to me I married and it's been nothing but agro ever since!

What would be needed? Don't think the rotors will swap, I assume my blue spots will still work?

Just wondering!

I put a 3.5" on my bike off a 1991 or 1992
I used ducati rotors and blue dots
And I did find bearings with no machining :good2:
If it's not broken, fix it anyways

nice work, was thatan fj or fzr rim,  :good2:, will be swapping my 4.4" rear for the freshly painted 5.5" tonight,  :wacko3:

Well my 3.5inch front rim has arrived, had a quick look, needs a good clean (has a strange sticky black residue all over the inside of the tyre mounting surfaces) seems straight and true as promised by seller. Is currently a gold colour so a respray is first priority.  Seems to have the Right side bearing insitu but will probably remove for respray then replace with new.  Hoping that all spacers and other bits will swop over easily.  Need to sort out chinese wavy rotors and match new tyre to my road pilot 2 rear! Will stick up pictures as the project moves on!  Any tips/advice/pointers or thoughts welcome :bye:

everything should fit the same, the black gooy stuff is probably what they either fitted or removed the tyre with  :scratch_one-s_head:,, dont forget to install the inner spacer in the rim ,

The xjr wheel has 4kg embossed on it. Had a look over the ABS front wheel but can't see any indication of weight on it.  Anybody happen to know what one weighs (naked as it were!! :mocking:)

Brief update, I have got my 3.5" front rim. Stripped off the old gold colour powder coat, ready for new paint job.

Been looking at tyres and the original appears to be a 130/70  R17 but this would seem to be a size that is a lot less common than it once was.  I have a brand new road pilot 2 on the rear on a 5.5 inch gsxr rear and was hoping to match this on the front but can only find it in a 120/70 R17.

This is the same as the original size front tyre isnt it? only difference will be is that it will sit on a wider rim.  Any thoughts or advice on the pros and cons of this tyre size on the wider rim?  Will I be sacrificing any advantages of the wider front rim by using this size?  I may need a bit of laymans terms schooling on this one as I'm a bit green on the science of mixing the various rim sizes with differing tyre sizes. Thanks in advance for advice! :hi:

I switched from 3.0 x 16 (120 tire width) to 3.5 x 17. The 120 looked too pinched on the 3.0 wheel to me. Mopar man (Steve) put a 110 on his 3.0 wheel and the profile looked proper, less pinched. With the 120 on my 3.5 the profile looks proper again. The 120 is what nearly all of us are running on our 3.5 fronts. Go a head and run the 120 for the first tire and then judge for yourself.

go with the 120 front on your 3.5" rim ,  compared to the 89 model in my shed the 3.5" on my 84 handles better, changes line smoother , and as monkey said they no longer are pinched  :good2:

Well I have ordered the 120/70, was doing a bit of reading (after having paid for it) that the 3.5" with 120 tyre can some times unsettle the handling mid corner, making it wander fro
It's line.  Any of you guys with the wider fronts have any thoughts or experiences of this

nope, not so far, but makes it easier to change lines imo , wuld of thought the 3" with a 120 would have more issues  :scratch_one-s_head: mind you i had   an 80 model gsx that used to buck ,weave and wallow from tip in to exit at any speed over 80klm  :wacko2: i learned to live with it for 9 years  , nobody on a bike used to stay close behind  :scratch_one-s_head:

When I changed to 17 x 3.5 the feel in the corners was like cold custard in an old sock to well planted and following a line leaned over required no effort. It might be from the wheel change... But I also put 89 forks with the RPM valves, new oil of course, 0.85 RaceTech springs, Dunlop Q2 rubber, Blue dots, steel braided lines, Galfer knock off rotors, new bearings... so I am not sure what change made the most difference.
