I've read that the amount of ticking/ 'locust sound' you get can have a lot to do with the pads you use.  It seems, EBC pads 'tend to be noisier'.  Vesrah, and Galfer are supposed to be quieter. 

As an aside, I have read more than once that the Vesrah's have excellent initial bite, then are progressive from there.  Whereas the EBC HH pads in addition to being noisy, were not so great initially, but then get better with more brake applied.

That said, I like my brakes on the Gixxer, with the HH pads, and while I do hear the locust noise when I throw out the anchors, it does not bother me.
