Rotor thickness for 88 FZR1000?

Anyone know the minimum thickness for an 87/88 FZR1000 front rotor? Specs show them to be 5mm new but not sure what the min is. I searched the web and FZR forums with no luck. I measured with calipers so give or take a 0.5 mm. The smallest point was 3.60 mm. I measured the outer ring that should not have any wear on it and got 4 mm. The inner ring with no signs of pads touching it was also 4 mm. I am not gonna take the rotors off my second wheel if they are already toast. Thanks in advance for any help.

hey monkey,

don't bother , you can't use them on the fj. they are 320mm and the calipers won't fit.

I searched earlier for FZR rotor, I just searched again and saw that the front end swap keeps the FJ rotors. What condition are your rotors in. My FJ rotors are currently just under spec.

Mark, if you are looking for 86 front end rotors I will have two sets -- have a front wheel for an 87 and the front wheel off that 86 soon to be parted

Most rotors have the minimum thickness stamped into either the disk or the spider.
Usually, the amount of allowable wear is only 0.5mm.

No way to measure. My calipers were in the garage when the house burned. Haven't gotten around to getting another one.

Here is a pic if that helps:

Those are some nice looking rotors, the stock 86' look like Flintstone tech. Full floating I am guessing. I hope they have meat left on them. They would look nicer than my stock set. Maybe I need to ride down when the weather is nice for another ride and bring my calipers. Maybe another mini-rally for us SoCal FJ riders.

I'm all for that. (ride)

I am taking my front wheel to the shop tomorrow to get a new front tire fitted. I'll take them along and see if they will measure them for me. I will let you know.

PS. they only have like 35k on them. There is a small ridge in the center from the POs choice of brake pads. Odd, I have never seen pads that go parallel to the caliper like those were. I started running a set of HH Sintered pads on them and then I did the caliper upgrade and put on a set of EBC rotors.

Fantastic, Thanks!!!! I started tracking the costs of different items I will need to complete this upgrade, I really don't want to see the total..Just the results. But now that I am at this point, what do you want for them?

$50 if they are going to work for you. If not, I could put them on a chain and sell them to some rap stars...

I love the connections we make here on this site. I have given members some of my older but useful stuff only for the cost of shipping and ask of them to pay it forward. This feels like I need to keep that trend going and keep helping fellow club members when I can. Thanks Craig. My Shatner therapy has been greatly reduced. All is right with the world again.

Great Mark,

This will offset the cost of the EBCs I bought. I will let you know the verdict tomorrow.
Now, pray for rain.
