If money were no object, there would be a few addition bikes in my stable:

Exotica:
Aprillia RSV4
Ducati 1198
MV F4 Tamborini/ 312 etc.

Somewhat more realistic:
Triumph Tiger
or Triumph 675, -really like the power characteristics of the few triples I've ridden.
Honda 919 -possibly the perfect UJM
VFR800 (pre-VTEC)
KTM Super Duke
Suzuki SV650

Just off the top of my head...  -can't see for shit -just came from the eye doc and my pupils are all dilated... Otherwise, I'd add more.

Dan

You've already got that sweetest of outright Jap sportsbikes in the Suzuki 750,a personal favourite, and I see you like the 1050 Tiger, I absolutely love mine.

Randy T ,you're a big bloke too, should you get the chance, have a ride on one,(1050 Tiger) they are a bit more fun than the 1000 cc V-Strom ( that's just my comparo opinion mind you) but by all accounts the 650 is the better bike.
Hmmm, how about one of the new 800 Tigers from Triumph?
I'll see if I can get a demo one, tell you how it feels

The Gen 1 Tuono I now have absolutely rocks too, the Tigers a bit more comfortable with a better fuel range, the new V4 Tuono doesn't get very far between fill ups but then again it was never intended to be used as lots of us use bikes, you know, for sporty touring.

If I were to buy a new outright sports bike it would be the BMW S1000RR, holy shit those things go.
All round bike?
Probably the Ducati 1200 Multistrada.

which one would you get.  i'm thinking of getting another bike, a sportbike, but not sure which one.

BMW K1300S...  I traded my '07 K12S (great bike too...  go buy it at SJ BMW) for a '10 K13S.  Some may recall the K12S caused momentary brain death and I tried to sell the FJ.  This time I'll take both.

The K13S is an unreal sport bike with near touring comfort, 175Hp/103ftlb FI power, and really useful gadgets that make it work better (clutchless shifting, ESA on the fly suspension adjustment, heated grips, integrated sport luggage, etc.) and reduce risk (traction control, integrated F/R ABS on front brake lever, hyper-stable suspension, shaft drive so no chain to brake, ...).  I rode the '07 for a while and really got to love it.  It had some shortcomings in shaft lash, shifting roughness, throttle response linearity, and maybe another minor thing or two.

The '10 has all of these things fixed and quicker response on turns, better ESA, 1,300mi vs. 32,500 on the '07.  The K13S kicks ass speed wise and is always unflapped.  With the shift assist, you hold the throttle open and flick the gearshift up when you want to shift...  seamless 0 to jail runs like shot out of a cannon.  Top speed is a reported 180+mph.

You should ride one...  there are some great deals out there right now.

I think it really depends on what kind of riding you do.

An early R6, a 98-99 ZX9R, F4 750, 916, SuperHawk VTR1000, TL1000R, 595i, have all been on my wishlist on and off.  But with having a decent sport-touring mount in the garage, I'd like something utterly different, for totally different kinds of riding, like a Venture or a CRF230.

Only advise I can really give is figure out what kind of riding you want to do more of that the FJ isn't great at, and search out a half dozen machines that fit the bill, then research known problems with them.  That way you can get something that doesn't have a known horrible malady like imploding cam lubrication (early honda V4's) or bottom end oiling issues (ZX11), unless that's the sort of work/repair/restoration you like to do.

A WeeStrom would be just the ticket for me...

Randy-

Ride one a fair distance before you actually plunk down any hard-earned.  I rode one for 2,000 miles through the PNW, BS and AB.  Not a bad bike, but ultimately fairly uderwhelming.  We did a fair bit of gavel roads too, and although it was not bad, I thought it would have been better there too.  FWTW...

SlowOldGuy

The new BMW 6 cylinder in GT trim?
VFR 1200 (but I refuse to pay that much for one)
990 Super Duke
Do they make a V4 Tuono yet?  Maybe it's time to stop by the Duc/Ape/Tri/BMW dealer

First generation FZ1 is a nice bike, but not that much different than the FJ.  I usually prefer to ride one of the  FJs.

Hi larry.
I can recommend a yzf1000 thunderace. Its relatively cheap, fast and reliable and comparatively comfortable compared to other similar machines. If mine wasnt in such good condition I would fit the brakes/forks/wheels to my fj.
heres a pic ...

Stay rubber side down.

I would go with a couple different bikes, Ducati ST4, Triumph Sprint ST, VFR, FZ1, Beull M2 Cyclone, old triumph pre-unit.An FJR1300 would be fun but I don't do the riding that a bike like that needs. As said before depends on what you do and if you consider practicality in your choice (new BMW Sport might be fun).

I rode Dan's WeeStrom up and down the Cherohala, and liked it a lot.

I already have one of the great fireroad or gravel road bikes... an XT500 (likely to soon be a 540), since I broke it.  The XTthreefiddy is not bad there, either.

A TDM850 would be nice, but those are getting scarce.

As Klavdy said, I probably would like the Tiger, too.

The (US) Dollar being what it is today brings me right back to the WeeStrom... lots of 'em out there cheap and already farkled.

U.S Dollar being what it is?
Meh, I travel a fair bit and its still the only currency I keep a stash of.
There's a very good reason why it is accepted and trusted throughout the world.

It still doesn't buy what it used to, especially when one is considering a Eurobike.     :pardon:

Hey Klavdy, those "old" 2 cylinder Tuono's are going dirt cheap. Hmmmm

After the WCR trip and your extended tour, how did you feel?  Knees/hips and back ok? Seat ok? How was your mileage?

That 6th gear must smooth things out on the hwy.

Re: Multistrada...Are you sure you would want a bike with desmo valvetrain?

The Tuono is a very comfortable bike, actually pretty near the FJ in ergos, surprisingly.
It's the upright seating position that makes it so, mind you  it will be better for me when I raise the bars (its got after market Rizomas on it that are a fair bit lower) back to standard and maybe put on a set of slightly lower pegs.
You'd find it comfortable for sure.
Go take it for a ride any time you want, you know where it is.
Sixth gear is really good, its an overdrive.
I banged it down to fourth on the freeway to pass someone and did an unexpected wheely at 85 mph though, something to watch out for.
Only muffed it that one time .
The mileage?
What, how far you get on a tank or how much fuel does it use?
Its a sweet bike, no intrusive vibes, its got a nice Sergeant seat, its light so you don't have to wrestle it as much as an FJ,handles great, goes like stink and stops like you wouldn't believe.
Nice and slim too.
I fell on my ass one day getting on it though, didn't hoik my leg up far enough to clear the tail bag.
Fluffy was amused.

The Ducatis service interval and reliability are really good by all accounts.
