Someone was after info on that "BLACK SUNSHINE" FJ that got built up a few years back.

Check it out, Hot Chicks with FJ, Swamp Donkey with H.D Cruiser thing,,,

I remember this bike very well. Belonged to Jon Jarosz I think. I contacted him with a view to buying it when he had it for sale, but some unexpected domestic expenses (less said the better) put pay to the idea.

In some ways it was just as well, as I seem to remember he built the engine without other modification, including retaining the OEM compression ratio, which I believe led to it letting go in a big way later on. I don't know if Jon got around to rebuilding her, anyone know ?

It was eventually parted out.

AFAIK:

1219cc with wiseco pistons
stock crank
stock rods
nitrous in various guises before and after the blower
chromed everything and polished the rest
ported head, good valve job
stock valve sizes i think, don't remember cleanly
blower ran 10psi?  I know he tested at that for awhile
jmc swingarm +4" (62" WB)
really ridiculous gearing (16/47 or so)
GSXR1100 front end

Not all gospel, that, though.  I was digging through his old netpath postings the other day trying to find the specifics on the bottom end, and this is just what I remember from digging through stuff.

Bob N. has the swingarm and rear wheel (and maybe the front end, too) on his bike, I'm sure he will chime in.

I bought the Supertrapp, never got around to using it, and sold it to Steve C, who installed it on Thor.

Great shame, it was such a looker. I seem to remember her in blue at one time too.

Bob's bike is blue... with the aforementioned parts.

AFAIK, Jon's bike went straight from 1988 White/Silver/Red (as it was featured in Cycle Canada) to black (with a chromed gas tank).

Reason I say so is that I have this pic which I thought was Jon's bike in one incarnation or another.

However I could be wrong Randy, it might not be his, it's a looong time ago !!

kind regards

Yup.  I got the extended JMC swingarm and the GSXR1100 front end, including both PM wheels and the front Performance Machine caliper.  Jon mounted the PM caliper on the right side to show off the PM wheel.  I could never find the matching left caliper so I eventually replaced it with a pair of Harrison Billet-6 brakes.  The rear PM caliper leaked, so I'm using a stock FJ brake.  I plan to rebuild the PM this year.

The "really ridiculous" 16/47 gearing is now 18/47.  It took some getting used to, but now I prefer it.  Close-to-legal speeds feel fine, but I can still go quickly if I need to (like when following some silly-fast people in Maine).

I have a copy of Jon's original web site, including the pictures (it reminds me how shiny the bike could be).  If there is a way to host them somewhere I'm happy to zip up the files and send them.

The last time I checked, Jon was riding a Harley.  And he's not one to follow a crowd; he rides it because he wants to.

Nah, you're right Barry, that's Jon's bike with the blue sky reflected in that fancy chrome tank.

That's the Cycle Canada article I was talking about.

Hey, getting old is all right... beats the alternative!

Good to see you on here.

He has an Electraglide.  He's still got a chopper that he built, also.

Cycle Canada, March 2000. Zoom in on the bottom right corner :)  Thanks for posting that btw, I was trying to find it a few days back.

In the files section you can zip them together and attach them to a post.

Any idea what kind of power this bike made?
I ran a roots type 6-71 blower on a street car I had years ago. Running 10 psi boost on a small block mopar I could make about 600 hp at the back wheels. This was with O-ringed heads, solid copper head gaskets, stock (well prepaired) rods and crank and a mild camshaft.
I guess what I'm thinking is that with good fuel, and ign. timing control you can make a lot of power with 10 psi boost. Did this bike run good with the blower or were there a lot of problems?
Thanks
Mark H.

I followed the build on black sunshine when was being built...

had a few niggling issues such as supplying enough fuel for the amount of boost.

But the worst issue Jon had with the bike was when it went BOOM!

sometimes too much is really too much!

he still got some quality kookaloo in before the terminal failure!

KOokaloo!
