 Went thru my clutch the other day (was slipping some) measured fiber plate thickness and checked steels for warpage, installed the extra full sized disc and doubled up the clutch springs. No More Slipping!
Clutch pull is not bad but I don't like the fact that the point between being engauged and disengauged uses up a very small amount of the clutch lever travel. Have noticed this before but with the extra spring it is a little annoying.
Does the FJR 1300 master cly. have a smaller piston as this should spread the enguagement/disenguagement point over a longer section of clutch lever travel or does anyone know if there is a different master cyl. that would work. I feel like I have a light switch for a clutch now.

If you have added additional; parts to the clutch pack you have just taken up the clearance within the pack that allowed it to give it some takeoff slippage. You have made the clutch pack be right at complete engagement of the pack.

If there is that much wear on the clutch pack the fibers should be replaced.

Changing the master cylinder will not correct the lack of range for the clutch spring(s) to operate properly.

Thats the mod I did, removing the snap ring, cushspring, small fiber plate at the back of the clutch pack and replacing it with a full sized fiber plate. I also measured all the fiber plates-all were within Yamaha's specs.
I think it was just the big change in the feel of the clutch lever pull -- had me thinking there was an issue.

Ahhh, sorry I read it incorrectly, I thought you said you "added" an extra fiber. The other option might be the EBC spring I checked out a couple of months ago. Marsh is putting it through its paces right now during his WCR trip. We will have a report shortly after his return.

Other than than you will be looking at the other M/C applications or the coil spring pressure plate conversion.

If you're going from fully engaged to fully out in too short of a distance, and without having any slippage issues, then yes, your options are changing to a master cylinder with a different bore size, changing to a different slave (though that'd be  waaaaaayy more work than the master), or change the pivot point at the lever with perhaps an offset pin to change the leverage and thus the distance traveled at the end of the lever vs the piston internally.

 Does the M C off the FJR1300 have a smaller bore?
Its my understanding that it will fit with the existing handle bar controls, etc?

Yes the FJR Master has a 14mm bore. Eases off effort required with doubled clutch spring, and a nice linear engagement.

I have the same set up and by adding the fjr clutch master it made all the difference. not as grabby and smoother.

 Thanks for the Info. Going to try and round up a FJR master cyl. Is there any paticular year I should be looking for?

I am using a 03 master , I think the fjr clutch masters can be used from 01-04. just make sure what year you have as the clutch levers change between years.

cruise e-bay and set up a search that will email you when what you are looking for pops up.
sometimes you can contact a seller that is parting out a bike and hasn't listed the master but sells it for cheap when asked.

some guys are using the kawi masters :bad: , as long as it is 14mm bore you will get the  result you need. :good2:

I believe all years (03-09) FJR clutch masters will work. They are listed as same part number.

They can be hard to find on Ebay though. Try posting over at the FJR forum.

They are also reasonably priced from Yamaha..around $150 I think.

The FZ1 and Fazer brake masters also match up well to this master cylinder.

 I was looking at the list of FJR masters (on boats.net) and noticed that they list one for bikes with ABS and one for bikes without ABS. I'm assuming that as I have ABS on my bike (working) this would be master I would want to get. Does anyone know what the difference is?
Also noticed that they listed a masters that were different colors and some that listed no color. I guess the one that listed no color would be the one I would want? - as I need just the standard Yamaha black.

They should be the same for all the years listed, with or without ABS.....same part number. From what I can see.
The colors mentioned are the color of the bikes themselves, not the master. The 03's are silver, 05' blue, 07's burgundy, 08's black ets. etc.

The differance between ABS and non ABS are the electrical connectors on the switch.
