Just brought home this 86.
My first Yamaha.
Fairly new to riding (4 years) and my first bike was a 76 goldwing. Since then I added a 78 project wing and an 82 standard which was my daily ride bike.  I have a thing for the vintage bikes.  :pardon:
Then I saw this online a few weeks ago.
I was never attracted to sport bikes but IMHO this thing is a work of art. Love the look of it.
I haven't rode it yet. Going to do an oil change, check the brakes, replace the back tire (it's weather checked).
The guy I bought it from has known the bike since it was brand new. A friend of his bought it, sold it later to another friend who in turn sold it to him.
It's missing a couple of things I'll be looking to replace (the black plastic covers" on the lower back part of the fairing.

Welcome NGFC, 86' is my first FJ and the best looking colors as well.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

Welcome aboard  :hi: I think, as many here do, that Yamaha nailed the design with the FJ's.
FYI our forum sponsor, RPM (banner at top of the page) has those fairing trim pieces you are missing.

Left side: (need two)

Right side: (need two)..the right side protectors are very very scarce....RPM is the only source I know

Hope this helps.

Your first ride may ruin the gold wing for you forever.

Do you mean the bumpers on the scoops?  They are available at RPM, the banner at the top of the forum page.  They are our site sponsor.  I was just copying links but Pat beat me to it.

Also if you are into the 3D printing thing here is another option:

Edit: he only has the protectors designed for the later years.

G'day and Welcome 5speed,

You do have the best colour combo there  :good:

Looks like you've got a good setup behind, just ideal for those vintage restos

Enjoy your Modern bike

thanks guys. Still waiting for the back tire to come in.
I have a replacement rear signal light lens on it's way. One is cracked. Also have a replacement seat cover coming as there is a hole in the original one.
The fairing bumpers are next on the list and the only other thing it needs cosmetically.

If you need left side fairing 'bumpers', I've got a pair you can have for the cost of shipping from Perth, On.

Ok, now I know where the mystery FJ parts manufacturing plant is located. Pete must have a warehouse of old FJs.

Sadly, my simian friend, the shelves are pretty near bare here in woodcreekworld.
