R1 4xv track day wheels - will they fit?

Jan, maybe give Skywave UK a try on eBay for their FJ Wavy discs - they seem to be OK (friend used some on his FJ race bike wet wheels) and are very reasonably priced.

Evening Dean thanks for the suggestion; the skywave discs - Similar to the Arashi the US guys have mentioned....different vendor similar price. Concerned I'll get hit with import duty at 5% and have to wait till the end of the month.....

You can get a good set of FZS Fazer 600 disks on UK eBay for £75? They look stock Yamaha - my only concern is that they will have steel inner bosses and so weigh more than the Chinese imports with alloy inners...

Any advice?

I think I need to do a dry build on the GSXR rear wheel..
There was no GSXR rear calliper in the bundle - just a 'rear calliper carrier'
Do you have to use these - better performance than a blue spot?
Or just impossible to fit a blue spot to suzuki rear wheel?

Cost of a GSXR rear calliper is £40 rough - £120 fully refurbished...
Tho I didn't enter into this planning on CNC machining I could design and CNC a carrier to take the blue spot running on the top, or if the calliper has to be under mounted make a cross over arm to use the existing top mounted torque arm like this

I might be missing something but why the under mounted calliper - is it something to do with stability and lifting forces / compression of the rear shock under braking?

The prices include import duty. Skywave's "warehouse" is in Leicester, so if they have them in stock, delivery in short order shouldn't be a problem, if they're not closed through lockdown. There are contact details through eBay and if they're working I'd guess they'll respond pretty quickly.

Personally, I prefer the whole "lightweight" look of the wavy discs rather than the "heavier" look of the Fazer 600 discs. We actually have a Fazer 600, a Fazer 1000 and the FJ 12 (as well as some of other of bikes), so I know what the 600 discs look like - I was Thinking of changing them to Skywave discs myself, but there's nothing wrong with the 600 discs so I  was really struggling to justify the cost - maybe we could come to an arrangement, something just to think about    - my only worry at the moment is the usual issue of stuck disc bolts

Hi Jan,

I've dragged it out and have a slight problem - although the bike has only done 15,000 miles and it's front pads are still like new, both disc thicknesses are almost exactly 4.1mm.

My Haynes manual says the new thickness is 5mm and the service limit minimum is 4.5mm. The discs themselves look almost brand new - no lips on the inside edge of te swept area - and the brakes work superbly. So before we go any further, I'm just checking out whether the Haynes manual is right, or wrong. I've never had a brake disc wear out on me, even on bikes with +75k miles, so I'm more than a bit surprised that these seem to be so far below the wear limit - hence I'm suspicious of the Haynes info at the moment.

Will let you know as soon as I have a confirmed answer. If they're below the limit, it looks like I'll be buying new ones anyway !!!!

Duh......just ignore my last post - just realised I was looking up thedisc thicknesses in my Fazer 1000 manual.



Fazer 600 discs are 4mm thick New with a service limit of 3.5mm, so as I thought, they're basically new
