Hi all...
Not sure if this is the right place for this...
Just wondering what types of manual throttle lock units people are using? My bike had one fitted when I got it but it seems to slip. I have tried to adjust it with no luck so looks like I will need to replace it. Just be good to give the hand a rest on the longer rides....

Right now, I'm using a "cheap-o" plastic throttle lock. I think it's a "vista cruise" IIRC:

Works well enough for what it is. I broke my Rh wrist many moons ago, so I need something that lets me remove my hand from the throttle every10-15 minutes to shake some feeling back into it. Any more than that and it just goes completely dead, no feeling at all.

MY Venture has electronic cruise control. If you look at that pic above closely, you can see I'm in the process of fitting it to the FJ. The Venturecruise is essentially a "stand alone" system. All it needs from the bike is 12v power and a speed signal. Luckily, it uses the same reed switch on the Venture as it does on the FJ for speed sensing. The wiring I've parsed out of the Venture harness, so that's easy peasy. All I have left to sort out is some custom throttle cables and then it's just mounting the actuator for the cruise, a couple modules and the vacuum pump assembly.

I'm using an 85 Venture cruise, which only has on/off/set. The 86+ versions have on/off/set/accel/decel. The 86+ also uses a different actuator assembly, which incorporates it's own vacuum pump, but it also makes it bulkier.

Not you typical backyard install, but super sweet once done. "Set it and forget it".....;)

They don't remove all the vibes, but IMHO they do reduce the high frequency vibes that cause the tingles and cramping..

ok cool... thanks for your input so far...

I think I have a vista on there now.... I have played around adjusting it but cant get it to stay on where I need it....

The Elect system sounds interesting but Im trying to avoid adding anything with a computer.... for an old fart like me... mechanical all the way!!! :biggrin:

Pat... are you using them? do they make a difference? I get the tingles... only on my right hand... so just wondering... and why I'd like to sort out this throttle lock...

Wouldn't help. It's internal damage in my wrist. Happens when my hand is held in one position too long, whether it be holding the throttle or a coffee cup....

They're longer than the CBR600 ones guys usually put on them because the 250 is "thinner" than the 600, so Honda made the stalks a little longer to get the same rear visibility. I'm kinda shaped like a piece of 4x8 plywood, so it gets them out past my shoulders for a completely clear view of what's behind me.

Some guys don't like them because they "stick out" so far, but I'd rather be able to see behind me than look cool. They look fine to me anyways.

The mount plate is too small to get both FJ mount points though. I only have one bolt in the mount, but it holds fine and allows them to swing back easily when hit. Saved them more than once in parking lots. I've come out several times to find one or the other swung back/forward, but undamaged. I friggin hate people sometimes.....;)

ok thanks... yep... I just got a set of VFR750 mirrors from a 90-93 so will get them on when they come... gotta be better than whats on there now...  :good2:

mine is also a later 91 3xw... the fairing is a little different and how they are mounted.... I think those mirrors would stick out allot further... looks good though on yours.... and work so much better I bet...

The CBR250R mirrors work great on the 88-90 models. I had them on my 89. I have found that for the 91 and later models the Suzuki Bandit mirrors work great and look much better than stock mirrors. Photo of Bandit mirrors on mine.

I have found that I like this model of the Vista Cruise throttle lock better than the one piece model.
