I ordered a chin fairing from AirtTech today. Anyone seen a thread on the heat shield material source? I thought that I had seen one but I haven't had any luck with the search engine.

Let me know what you find Joe.....I just grabbed 2 chin cowlings myself and I would also like to protect the lining..

Is this the stuff you're looking for?  http://www.ebay.com/itm/Heat-Shield-Protection-Aluminum-with-Fiberglass-and-adhesive-layer-PROFESSIONAL-/400865420348?hash=item5d5570e43c:g:KzEAAOxyoA1RM7Ff&vxp=mtr

It certainly looks like the stuff. looks like the shield on the bottom of the gas tank.
The thread I was referring to in my previous post had a pattern to printout and cut. I might be confused. Maybe it was the tank heat shield.

PS: Thanks FeralRdr for the post.

The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I got the little fairing on today. Air-tech did a good job. A little wet sanding got the paint to stick.
The rear holes are bossed so I drilled those first with a 1/8 inch drill then opened them up to expose the
threaded mounting tabs. Once I had the rear screws installed, I was able to spot the front holes from the inside
with a piece of pencil and needle nose plyers.

This winter I'll put some rubber grommets in the holes, but for now I won't tighten the screws up.
I have them a little loose so I won't crack the glass. I bought the heat shield material that
Tuneforkfreak showed on ebay. It appears to be working good. I took a good ride and the glass
is only warm.
I took a look at fj monkeys pattern. It looked to me like it would be for the fj1200 and not the fj1100
I just traced the fairing and cut it out best I could. The adheasive backing is good and sticky
and should stay stuck.
I'm glad my bike is complete now. Thanks for the help.

Either use a shoulder bolt or make your own spacer to avoid clamping the plastic directly.

The stock method used spacers/collars for the bolts.

Hi Jeff. The duplicolor red anodize turned orange and the heads turned yellow. It was a real hassle getting it off. almost as hard as removing the black.

Thanks Chris for the RPM parts list I'll order what I need.
