First of all, happy New Year to everybody and my best wishes!

Hey, go to matter... has anybody tested a YSS shock?. Its not to fit to my FJ, its for my Honda CBX 750. The rear shock collapsed without solution (take a look at my web, CBX suspension section, if you have curiosity to take a look to an air-assisted shock autopsy)

Any experiences?

Thanks, guys

Alf, I have done a lot of research lately and I am zeroing in on a "Nitron" shock. They will build them to your specs, that is, bike make and model specific and weight, they are adjustable and reviews compare them
favourably with Ohlins but at half the price.

They come from the UK and the exchange rate seems favourable, $1000 delivered to Australia for a tailor made shock, not bad.
According to testimonials, after sales service is also very good.
They do them for the FJ so I guess they could make one for that vintage Honda as well.

Check them out.

I know that there are quite a few of the historic race bikes use YSS shocks.
Rob Phillis's GSX1100 and Katana both use them.
These are twin shock set ups but it shows that they must be decent quality!

The guy that I bought my Hyperpro shocks from, also offered YSS products, and I inquired about their shocks first. However, and for unknown reasons, he said that he didn't use their shocks anymore. Hmm. I went with the Hyperpro then. He said that they also had a larger shock shaft than the YSS'. Not sure what that nets anyways. I've been very happy with the Hyperpro shock.

I did buy the YSS fork valves as a lower cost alternative valve for the FJ forks. They are a definite improvement over the OEM setup, and they should carry ones for your CBX too.

Love the CBX!

Thanks for the feelings

Yesterday I spoke with a suspension repair professional in Madrid. He recommended me YSS because those are better quality than Hagon. And for him, the best shock builder is Wilbers, better than Öhlins: the best materials and manufacturing.

So I will try with YSS at the end. I will inform

Cheers

Alf, what does your shock builder say about Penske shocks?

A good friend of mine worked with YSS to develop a shock for a custom application (late 1000 ninja, Ducati 916 swingarm). My friend was very happy with YSS and the initial performance of the shock seemed promising. My friend was still playing with linkages and YSS was respeccing the shock to suit as the build progressed. Unfortunately my friend passed from complications from Leukemia, and never finished the project.

Based on his experiences and feedback I would consider YSS before many others.

Nothing at all, Pat, sorry. Penske is not known in Mainland Spain.

What do you pay for those YSS in Spain?
Should be cheaper than Wilbers - if not, consider Wilbers. I can only agree to your Madrid-connection, installed Wilbers in 5 bikes up to now and I also feel them comparable to Öhlins. They will come with spring acc. to your weight and preferences (Solo, with passenger, luggage...).

The 641 type with external adjustment is about 750,-- € in Germany reg. price, to give you a number.

Cheers Jo

I´ve know that an hydraulic remote preload adjuster is not available from any builder because the shock is very short. So I will have to dissassembly the shock 3 or 4 times to dial the preload. A pain!  :dash1: There is no place inside the bike to change the preload with a nut system

Wiilbers are the best shocks, it seems. But in fact living in Canary Island is easyer ordering from China, US and GB than from the EU, including Madrid and Germany!

Finnaly I´ve bought a good price for an YSS shock in GB. 300 euros. Not bad!

I will inform of the quality

300 Euros (325 USD) is a good price.  :good:

I have a Hagon rear shock some 5 years with remote hydraulic adjuster and am very happy with its performance and ease of preload. :nyam1:

The problem with the CBX shock is that is only 305 mm. long, so there are no place to fit a remote collar with an appropiatte spring to support the bike weight and without losing progressivity. Nor Nitron, YSS and Wilbers offer hydraulic remote for this shock

My probles with the Hagon shocks are docummented in my web, so I dont want to repeat them

Alf, do you have any fresh info on the YSS performance?

Hi

Excellent shock and it come dialed spot-on for my weight and style of riding. In fact, I specified both when ordering, and it is a great positive point, because of the lack of remote preload adjustment do any spring modification a complete dismantling the shock from the bike work, a pain.

Now instead of inappropriate suspension I feel the rear tyre flexing. I've been thinking around a rim change, but my model of CBX is the only one in Spain, so I don't like too much the idea of modifying the original design

I always ride alone in my CBX, so the unavailability of remote preload option is not a big problem, but if not, buy always a shock with that option

The shock is miles better than the air assisted original, and better than a Hagon too

I hope this helps
