I also have a YSS rear shock on my FJ1100.

The build quality and performance is very good (and it is quite cheap).

On the 1100 there is enough room to adjust preload and damping when it is installed.

Alf, I have done a lot of research lately and I am zeroing in on a "Nitron" shock. They will build them to your specs, that is, bike make and model specific and weight, they are adjustable and reviews compare them
favourably with Ohlins but at half the price.

They come from the UK and the exchange rate seems favourable, $1000 delivered to Australia for a tailor made shock, not bad.
According to testimonials, after sales service is also very good.
They do them for the FJ so I guess they could make one for that vintage Honda as well.

Check them out.

You going to spend that kind of money, you might as well buy Randy's shock... Really, the only reason I look at other stuff is cost.

YSS shocks seem to be all over eBay, and they do list them for the FJ, even specifically listing different years.

1984 FJ600, up on blocks

1986 FJ1200, flaming wreck, repaired and sold
1986 FJ1200, repaired, ridden, sold

This price is why I'm asking for YSS. https://www.biketeile-service.de/en/frameandsuspension/rearwheelswingarm/shockabsorber/gascharged/standard/yssshockabsorber7890801.html

I understand Randy's trouble to make a perfect shock for FJ. And I would be extremely happy if I would have enough money to buy it. Having 1000$ for shock would probably mean that I have enough money for 3-4 more motorcycles.  :good2:

The info that you can adjust the preload on the bike is precious, thank you!  :good2:

Ask here about the shock. Excellent service and even cheaper now with the Sterling going down

Ask for Adam

The shock will be built to your weight and style of riding. The included option of height adjustment is excellent to up the rear of the bike or, in the future, going to a 17" rim, with less diameter

Has anyone from Oz bought Randy's shock and, if so, was GST payable on it?

No GST but make sure you factor in exchange rate and freight.

Has anyone from Oz bought Randy's shock...?

There have been many sold in Oz.

Here is the review this week from John (Bozo). He was one of the first to purchase from Oz: RPM Rear shock update

The preload is adjustable on the RPM shock while fitting to the bike as well.

Hey all...

About to do a GSXR1100 rear end conversion on my '92 model. Does anyone know if the YSS or the RPM shock are a straight bolt on with this conversion? Keen to replace the shock when i do it so ready to buy!

For the aussies that bought the RPM shock what was the final cost (inc conversion/ shippping etc)

Cheers

FJmonkey

The RPM unit is a direct bolt on. Set the preload for proper sag and enjoy.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

As it's over AU$1000 wasn't there 10% duty/tax to pay on it?

Did that actually get up?
Anyway, it won't apply to the shocker.

My apologies if this is a hijack. I went looking on the gov website and found this.

The Import Declaration will be assessed for duty and taxes and an import processing charge will also be applied. After you have lodged your Import Declaration, we will advise you of the amount you need to pay before your goods can be delivered.

Goods with a value over AUD1000 are unable to be to be delivered by Australia Post unless an Import Declaration is made and any duty, taxes and charges owing are paid in full
