I am looking to see if anyone know any information and/or history on this bike.

I bought it from a young man in Illinois and the reason was the dealer told him it had a bad starter clutch.

It arrived here last week, I have given a quick once over and it has some aftermarket parts indicating the engine has been worked on. So, before I dive in I just wondered if anyone had any good history on the bike.

I finally found the Facebook post Where this bike was listed for sale.

Here is what was posted....

Hi guys

I have my 1992 FJ1200. The starter clutch (?) went out. I don't have the time, or the money to fix this thing. It has brand new delkovic exhaust. GSXR wheels. Racing carbs. Fix the starter clutch and you're good to go. Maybe new rear pads as well.

It's located just outside Chicago, IL. I'll give it to whoever wants it for $1000.

You would need to trailer it.

That is as much info as I could find.

I saw this bike up-close-and-personal last summer. Looked to be a very nice, well-kept example. Don't know anything about it, except that it suffered a rapidly-flattening tire in Dixon, IL that day...

Randy, I'm curious, what type of "racing carbs" are on the bike?  Mikuni RS flatslides?

That might be the same rear tire still on the bike...it goes flat in about an hour...

I don't know yet, I have not done anything but unload it off the truck and roll it into the shop.

Covered up with too much work right now and there is a monster RPM sale coming up this weekend.

Tom is the PO that sold it to the person you bought it from. I know it was for sale for a good part of 2014 before Tom picked it up earlier this year. It was a great running bike when he had it and I know it was NOT sold due to any issues with the FJ itself. I'll try to get in touch with him and get you some more info.

According to Tom they're Mikuni 38s flatslides, and he believes the engine is stock.

So I found out a little info, but not enough to get some answers.

The biggest question I have about this bike is the rear wheel conversion. I was told by the young man I bought it from it was a GSXR wheel.

The interesting part of that is that this 92 still has the ABS tone ring in the 17" wheel. Unfortunately the wheel was chrome plated and the markings were removed from the wheel.

It uses the Yamaha sprocket & rotor, the cush drive has only been filed only slightly on the center portion by the bearing. In fact the only thing that has been machined is the brake stay. The brake caliper torque arm is also from some other application with a factory offset.

I wish I could find the guy that owned this bike & did the conversion, but it looks like it is time for me to start researching wheels again...

Chrome plated?  :bad:

Chrome has no place on our FJ's, Harleys yes, FJ's no....Polished aluminum is another matter.
