The tank was pink at one time...

Maybe that might jog a memory.

Chrome plated?  :bad:

Chrome has no place on our FJ's, Harleys yes, FJ's no....Polished aluminum is another matter.

Randy,

I'll start with, "I have no knowledge about this particular bike."
However, I do have a W. A. G. about that rear wheel.

My guess is that it is the OEM FJ ABS wheel that has been widened and enlarged by a firm like Kosman then chromed.  The extra width would probably require the mod on the brake torque arm.

I am not sure about that because that would mean it would also have to go from 16" to 17"

It is definitely from something else as the brake stay had to be machined to allow it to fit in the FJ swing arm.

I looked at a few pics on the Interwebs and all the GXSR ones I see have a dimple of sorts on the rotor side of the wheel, which I don't see on yours (unless it was ground off before being plated). Look at this pic for example. You can see it to the left on the spoke on the right:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rear-Wheel-with-break-rotor-17-GSXR-RF900R-/221791838159

It also looks like the spacing is different from the stem to the spoke, so maybe that's not from a GSXR at all.

Randy, Definitely not a gsxr wheel, the shape of the rim itself where the spokes join to the bead of the rim is different, plus gixxer wheels use an upside down caliper.

I think Arnie hit the nail on the head because I can't think of any Yamaha rims in that style of spoke in 17" with ABS. Is the rim 5.00" or 5.5" wide ??

Too young to be old but old enough to know better.

Are the engine covers chrome plated?

Back around 2003 I had a customer who was building a similar bike in Northern KY. He was an odd bird but I remember him purchasing a ton of parts that he was having plated including the engine covers and a set of carbs. I never saw the finished bike but I know that he had a wild paint job done that involved a pink stripe. Someone (probably Dean) posted a pic of the bike parked on the street commenting on how ugly it was.

If this is that bike The person who did the mod sent a wheel to someone in Germany to have the wheel modified to work with the ABS. He showed me the wheel when It was completed and it looked very similar. I believe it was a FZR1000 wheel or maybe a YZF600????

That was an ABS FJ so I would guess that means they just re-used the OE rear rotor right? Or is the toner ring part of the hub, not the rotor? I remember seeing the ABS light on when Tom rode and talking to him about it, I think it was because they never reinstalled the sensor itself.

Randy, Tom just reminded me about the FJ's origins. Is there any chance that since that's a European bike the wheels would be different than here in the US? I don't know which side of the pond the mods were done.
