Hi All,
I have brake fluid damaged from leaking clutch slave cylinder on lower frame.
Paint is all wrinkly and some surface rust is appearing.
I'm going to take that part of frame out and paint it, but with what type of paint, something that will take a bit of heat and is tough enough to resist stone chips

Any ideas welcome, Alan

I don't know what brands of paint you have down under, but here in the colonies Rustoleum spray paint works reasonably well.

Any powder coaters nearby? Cheap and effective.

I thought about powder coat, will it be ok for stonechips?,
won't have to keep touching it up?

I had my entire frame painted in 2pack spray paint by a professional. Very hard wearing (almost as hard as Powder Coating) and so far has been resistant to stone chips. my bike has been on the road for 10 months since the reparay and on 5000km. (3500miles)

If I only took a job with a good mate I'd be able to drop around and have a look, he's just jumped on a plane back from Grafton.
I'll be dropping into a place tomorrow about 2 pack or powder coat, the frame in mention is fairly protected I think by the lower fairing and Exhaust,
So might be what can handle a bit of heat and colour match.

easy application and a great match

I take it you have used it, How close is it to original silver frame?

What I have used for my bike and the bike just done for my brother is good old Wattyl Killrust in "aluminium" shade. The frame down rails and under the engine have been done with it in these photos http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=14600.0

It is slightly brighter than the factory finish, but it's worth doing the whole front/bottom sections anyway, not a big job. Never had any problems with heat and it sticks like crazy,

G'day Sparky, I've the same issue on my Effie. Not done much about it yet as there are other cosmetics to deal with, but Ribbert suggested 'Ford Argent Silver'. I made the mistake of not getting gloss, but the colour match seems very close.
The Wattyl Killrust also seems like a good idea, I might check that out too.

Morning Troyskie

Lovely day for a ride, shame I can't

I have been told by a very reliable source that Ford Silver Argent isn't available in Australia

I have other bits to do also but entire exhaust is off at present and its just staring at me and pleading to be repainted,
I will be trying to get some paint for the weekend, it looks like good drying weather 30˚C

And then Forks are next on my list, they need a good clean out on the inside

Cheers Alan

G'day Alan,
Great day for a ride mate!

I bought the paint from the local Autopro, so perhaps it was old stock.

Talk about sods law, every time the weather is great I'm committed to something. Each time recently (like last Saturday I was meant to go to Wakefield for the superbikes) its back to winter!

Ah well, I suppose once I do get some saddle time on a nice day it will be that much more enjoyable!

G'day Troy,

Same, was a great weekend a couple of weeks ago, early finish on Friday about 9, went home and gave bike once over and noticed left muffler a bit wobbly,
got socket to tighten up, all was tight but Collector box was cracked where Muffler slips on, since then still fixing/waiting for parts/while it sitting there I just keep finding stuff to do.

Just saw another post by you regarding muffler, I have just bought Delkevic collector and headers but they said no link pipe from collector to Muffler(450mm one to keep quieter)
You mentioned that any respectable exhaust shop should be able to make one, is that Correct?

Troyskie

Yeah mate.
I went into town with the bike on a trailer so they could line-up the collector/muffler for the mid pipe.
I had them modify the mid pipe I received with the Delkevic system. It was meant for the 1200 (3CV) which has a much shallower angle of attachment.
If you're coming to the shed day in November, I've a little electropolisher that will clean up any welds nicely.

I did those on my 1100 with Rustguard 'Aluminum' epoxy enamel. Its tough and will resist further rusting if prepped right. Buy it from Bunnings.
