PR4 width

Can anyone tell me what the width of a mounted Michelin PR4 rear tire is?  I'm looking at the 160/60-17 and 180/55-17 series.  I'd like to try a set of these tires.

My Continental RA/2 170/60-17 measures 7" (178mm) wide and  clears the chain by about 1/4".  Michelin doesn't seem to make a 170 series PR4.

I am also interested in the width as I was planning a set of pr4's for my 17" rear swap.

Perhaps the width of the 180 tire and what width rim it is mounted on would be better? It changes a little bit if you're on a 5.0 or a 5.5 rim....

I have not used one as of yet.

I believe that I saw a few that have been installed on members bikes at the Central Rally. Dan McCoy (giantkiller) comes to mind as having PR4's installed. No complaints of being too wide that I heard.

Since this subject has popped up a few times, maybe we can get the actual measured width of many tire brands and models. This will help others considering changing tire brands and or model to know if they need to get a 170 or a 180 wide tire. We have the first contribution a 170 wide Continental Road Attack. I will contribute my tire width today.

The Dennis Kirk site looks good for getting size info but they don't have it on all tires. I was hoping to see what the Dunlop Q2/3 width was. The Q2 in 180 wide rubbed the chain, by the time I replaced it the chain had removed about 1/8" to 3/16" off the edge. The 170 rear cleared the chain.

The Continental Motion (code for good price but mediocre mileage) 180/55-17 on a 5.5" wheel measured 7", same as the Conti RA/2 in a 170. The 180 wide PR3 is almost 1/2" wider putting the edge almost 1/4" closer to the chain. I don't have that much room, so now I know I need the 170 wide when I am ready to try them out.

Right: I looked for quite a while for the PR4 width but no luck.  I did see some forum postings indicating the that the PR4 is narrower than the PR3 but no actual measurement. I have a 180 PR3 on 2008 R6 5.5 inch wheel (and 2008 R1 swingarm) with no clearance issues.

I can't tell you the exact width,  but I put 170/60 x17 pr4's on my 4 1/2 rim and it fits in standard swing arm with about 1/2 inch to spare on either side of the tyre.

Sorry, I'm currently out of town so I can not measure my 180/55-17 PR-4 tire on my 5.5" rim.

180-55-17  PR 3 on 5.5 rim at 40psi measures 183mm (182.60 mm) max width.  As best I can measure with a caliper.  Rear wheel is centered in the swing arm and I have 5mm (5.24mm) clearance between tire edge and my chain rivet head.  No sign of any tire wear or side wall "milling".

That's all I can conturibute on the subject.

My 180/55-17 Conti-Motion measures 6-15/16 inches mounted on a 5.5" wheel. At 40psi

The Michelin Pilot-Road 2 180/55-17 that I took off measures 7-1/8 inches unmounted.

I used a straightedge on either side, and measured between them
