nearly nailed

Another one of those lives used up.
All stopped at a red light.
Heard the screech of tires behind me and then the guy came sailing past in the emergency lane wiggling side to side, but fairly under control.
A brief and odd silence as the world reset itself.
The light goes green and he merges back in about 3 cars down the line.

Glad you are ok.  I'm always watching my mirrors at stops, in 1st gear, ready to get out of the way.

The last time I had a similar experience I had come to a stop on the freeway. I was in my cage and sitting like all the others helpless cages, tires screeching, impact noises, then quiet.... All this 3 to 4 cars behind me. If I were on the FJ I would have been further ahead and not even aware of the incident. Glad you remained a bystander to the incident Andy.

Good to hear you avoided what would have been a very unpleasant experience.

I got into the habit of keeping a watchful eye on cars behind me with the mirrors while I'm stopped at a light.  I "flash" the brake lights using the front brake lever, until the cager is stopped.  Has helped on more than one occasion.

I put the bike in neutral, dismount, turn to face the on coming traffic and waive off the approaching driver(s) as if the lane is blocked. Works like a charm every time. But it sucks when the light turns green right after you turned to face the on coming driver(s)  :pardon:. Run back to bike and ride like hell....  :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:

I don't like being stopped at a intersection with my ass end exposed...it gives me the heebie geebies.
If there are cars in front of me and there's room, I like to filter to the front of the line. I feel safer beside the cars, at the front, I can also see cross traffic better, always watching for red light runners.

The downside to filtering to the front, is that when the light does turn green you better move out smartly to get in front of the cars....a sure recipie for getting T boned by a red light runner.

Pick your poison: exposure to the rear or snuffed by a red light runner...

Yep, my early filtering experience was a real eye opener. My first bike, a Yamaha Maxim 400. I almost stalled pulling away from the cars in front, the delay allowed me pleasure of watching a trash truck blow through the intersection where I would have been had I jumped out, like a bug and a windshield. I am now ever watchful of the cross traffic before I punch in front of the cars... Still gives me willies when I think about it....

I have a brake light "modulator" I bought on ebay for not much money.

It is programmable for flash rate and duration and with LED brake light globes it is verynoticeable.

I have it set to flash rapidly for about 5 secs, it then resumes normal brake light operation. On occasion, if a car bearing down on me from behind at an intersection is making me a little nervous, I just release and re apply the brake to set off the flashing sequence again.

Some great ideas, of which Monkey's dismount and wave seems most noticeable. I'll probably add some fluorescent flags, sound the horn, strobe light the entire bike - but wait that's still only two senses addressed.
Ok, then I'll vend spicy foods from my Givi top box to alert followers senses of taste and smell.
You can probably work out the sense of touch from my cunning anagram:
ASMACKINTHEFACE.
