Frank - and anyone else running the XJR output shaft,

How much clearance do you have between the chain and the frame?

Thanks,
Chris

Harvy

Chris.....not the answer you were after but Randy RMP has reported that the clutch pushrod and gearchange shaft are the same 8mm longer that the corresponding FJ parts, so I would GUESS that the chain is now 8mm closer to the frame.....of course, I'm probably wrong.

ZERO!  ... had to grind the frame.. chain was hitting the welded-in nut for the lower sideplate(rearset) bolt. I don't know exactly how much clearance the grinding left me with but I can say it is adequate  :good2:

..I thought I had a before-&-after pic of it online somewhere but can't seem to find it..

Hey Harvy, the C/S and the clutch pushrod are the same 8mm... but the shift shaft is  approx 25mm longer.

...just sayin'  :good2:

... one thing I was curious about is if you could use the standard FJ clutch pushrod with 2 balls instead of one? The balls are 8mm..?

i think there may be some dimensional differences in the FJ frames from the factory..... i have clearance from chain to frame..... not a lot..... but i didnt have to grind anything.

Kookaloo!

Harvy

Well I was half right tRoy... ... makes sense seeing as the c/s sprocket cover is also deeper if I remember correctly.
So what are you running for a swingarm/ rear wheel?
When I did the FZ1 in my '91, I found (thanks Frank & Eric) that the Honda VF1000R 18 tooth c/s sprocket with grinding of one face, and flipping the wheel sprocket (the stock 44 tooth FZ1 sprocket is offset) on the FZ1 wheel gave adequate clearance for chain - frame and chain - tyre clearance and no alignment problems.

I've since changed to 38 tooth sprocket on the back.

Thanks guys!

Sounds like the shaft AND and offset sprocket is a no go!

For those that may be interested, TRAC Dynamics have a 1/4" offset sprocket for the R1 (R1 uses the same c/s sprocket as the FJ) intended to be used with their 240 tire kit, but available separtely for $70.  Only comes in 16 and 17 teeth though.  For comparism, 8mm is an RCH larger than 5/16".  Could be handy for the YZF600 swap without having to machine the sprocket carrier...

Also, for clarification, I've got the motors pulled from both frames right now - nothing to measure!  THanks again for the help!

I am running stock swingarm w/5.5 GSXR wheel... XJR countershaft w/standard FJ sprocket.

Not enough room @ the rear sprocket>swingarm to run studs & nuts on the cush drive, using 12mm bolts instead

Does our Randy have the counter shafts instock or if not the off set sprockets ?

andyb

I think that's PN# 5EA-17421-00 for the XJR countershaft (2003 I believe?).  Can't hurt to ask him ( randy@rpmracingca.com ), but I don't see it on his site so it might be a special order.  Lotta work to swap it if the trans isn't already apart, might be worth the effort to look into offset sprockets if you're not in the middle of a rebuild.

I have plenty of good used XJR transmissions. I am working on stocking sprockets & chain right now, but that is still a couple of weeks out.

Like Andy stated, send me an email.

I'm curious to know if that supersedes to the current number which for 2007 and on is 5UX-17421-00

Don't know if I'm reading this correctly but:

What chain are you using? A 530 chain?
You can easily go to a 520.

But I like my engine cases the way they are.
