HI Andy, I will email Randy tonight , I know its a big job on the countershaft sprocket but im quite happy to do it the only thing that really bothers me is i just fitted new rings/hone/decarb of my FJ1200 into XJR motor and tourqed down a new head gasket last sunday :dash2: Now im weighing up to either pull it down again for the countershaft while its out of the frame or fit a Offset sprocket for now and just get the XJR counter shaft for the next time im feeling motivated enough to split the cases. I know the right thing to do is to do it now while its out  :ireful: :cray:

So let me see if im right now for my 3CV 1988 FJ 1200 motor into 1997 XJR 1200 I will need the XJR Counter Shaft, Shift Shaft, and Sprocket Cover ???  Will i need to run 2 ball bearings in the clutch pushrod if i use the XJR slave??? i have the FJ slave would i be better to run it or get that shaft as well ???

Thanks for the help!

The FJ slave cylinder is the same as the XJR, so don't worry about that.

Thanks FJ11120, So the difference is 8mm in the Sprocket Offset im sure its been said elsewhere but just want to confirm that.

I don't know about that.
But going back to your previous post, when i converted my 3CV to XJR i used the XJR pushrod, just in case 2 ball bearings might run up onto each other causing the clutch to jam. I don't know, that's my thought.

Don't know if I'm reading this correctly but:

What chain are you using? A 530 chain?
You can easily go to a 520.

I'd bet an FJ will snap a 520 chain fairly easily..... If not, it WILL wear it out way too fast.

I've been running mine for over 20.000 km. No problems.
They make conversionkits for R1's and GSXR1000's. A good chain can handle that kind of power.

It is also a usefull conversion when you go to a wider rear rim.
gives just that extra bit of clearance. Doesn't hit the chain cover and keep well away from the tire.

Yep, a good quality 520 will handle it as easily as same qaulity 530... Same side link strength, same pin strength, why not?

As a bonus there's less horsepower loss from the narrower roller, which is why they do the conversion for R1's, etc...
Nitrous is nice but I'd rather be blown.

I'd stick with a 530 as well, noting that most of the literbikes weigh a sizable amount less than an FJ and load things a bit less.  If you go for a 520, use the absolute best chain you can find.

In changing my 93' FJ to accept the 07' R1 parts, Randy hooked me up with an XJR Pushrod, Shift Shaft and Case Cover plus the required longer case bolts and seals etc... (the clutch plate and gasket were included so that while I had the right side open to do the shift shaft I could also get rid of the unreliable retainer spring/clip and skinny plate in my clutch- I was advised to get rid of these before they fail and ruin my oil pump!)

The XJR case needs the upper right corner nipped off and then it goes on and off just fine.  I clamped mine to a saw horse and used the grinder to remove the corner- easy.  You cannot see the bare metal when mounted.  Also, the XJR case cover works with the FJ clutch slave cylinder and looks stock when installed so you don't give up the OEM appearance.

I am using a 1/4" offset sprocket from PBI that is an 18 tooth and cost about $40.  I think it was for an R1 though because the spline mount area "cross-section" on the FJ sprocket was thicker and I had to use a homemade spacer behind the offset sprocket that was approximately .238mm.   The .25" offset = 6.35mm + my .238mm spacer equals a total offset of approximately 6.588mm and my 6" wheel lines up with no mods to the sprocket carrier.

I am not sure what wheel would require both the XJR Counter shaft AND an offset sprocket....??  I would think one or the other is the way to go.  I kept my FJ counter shaft and was still able to mount a 6" wide wheel with decent clearance on the frame.

Regarding the 530 vs. 520 issue. I regret not changing to the 520 when I had the chance. Not only are your clearance issues reduced significantly but so is the weight of the chain and sprockets.....  If they find the 520 gauge adequate on the most powerful race bikes then I feel it is completely safe on my FJ.  I studied the issue a lot and found no actual negatives to using the 520.  It has more than enough tensile strength. I kept my 530 because the chain was new and all I needed was a set of sprockets. In retrospect, I should have just bought a new chain too and achieved the weight loss and spacious clearance...  JMHO...
