I'm going to the West Coast rally then over to South Dakota afterwards.
In particular, IRON MOUNTAIN ROAD is intriguing.
Mind you, avoiding times when the herds of Harley slowbeasts  drift across the region is important too.
It's amusing for a while, getting past clots of them, but it gets old fairly quickly.
Wonder why they so often ride under the speed limits in parade formation on open roads?

Hey Klav...

I've been on that pigtail a few years ago in my car...the whole area is quite amazing!  I too am attending the WCR and then heading off to the Black Hills.  Are you riding an FJ from one to the other?  I'm trying to sort out whether to ride the whole bit or build up a trailer to tow it all out there...I would ride the FJ the whole trip with the slightest of excuses...like a fellow FJ rider or two who will log the miles.  Your thoughts?

Of anyone who has done their fair share of riding, who hasn't had to deal with these rolling roadblocks, be it HD's or GW's? Always an issue in scenic areas that are a draw for riders, and cagers alike.

Going early in the morning can help open up the roads for you, but that can be difficult with a bunch of riders. There's always some that can't get rolling quick enough, gotta have a full breakfast, need a cigarette, need gas...

Speaking of roads, does anyone have any opinions of any of these routes in the general area, if they've ridden them?...

There are exceptions. I regularly ride with a workmate on his Goldwing. He is in his early 60's , rides two up and always takes the lead. He sets a very brisk pace and it is always entertaining to watch the sparks fly. I have also known a few HD riders that have no problems keeping up. One guy is an ex motocross champ that just happens to ride Harleys. He has owned one since he was 18 and now has four of them. I feel sorry for the guys that were into that scene before HD became a marketing giant as they cop the same "wanker" label as the gay pirate crowd

I've got a half arsed plan for they are the best laid ones.
Go to America.
Hop on bike in L.A.
Ride to Northern California and the Westy.
Go to South Dakota via Oregon, Washington,Wyoming and Montana.
Take about a month or so doing it.
Consider going back to L.A  via Colorado,Utah etc.

They are all there.....................Anxiously awaiting our arrival  :yahoo:

You do have to be careful, as most of the tunnels are one-lane only, and there could be a motorhome in there coming the other way........................ :negative:

My plans will include a trip to see Devils Tower in Wyoming, a blast up into Montana, just to say I have been there, back through Sturgis, and of course the Mt Rushmore trip squeezed in there some where.

John,

I can. I did that design on the CustomInk website. I have spoke to a local t-shirt printer and I can get the price down. I can go back in and have a sample shirt made and then post pricing.

I'm not the fastest FJ rider, I am 'half-fast', the fastest slow guy....

That would be great Fred, if you don't mind the leg-work and have the time I'll let you run with it.

This is going to be grand, can't wait to return  :yahoo:
