Sounds fantastic, count me in. I may have a job change in the wind so whether I'll have enough leave to bring my up my FJ depends on how that goes. So I could be just flying up and getting a rental bike. I'll know more in a couple of weeks. Very much looking forward to meeting you all!

It's looking more and more like I might be able to show my face.
I have realised my frequent flyers are up, and that I could probably borrow a bike off my cousin.
I'm quite confident I can scrape together a beer fund and con whoever I may be working for at the time that one of my relatives has come to their demise.

Mates, we crossed the range today & checked out some alternate Downunder Rally venues (incl the Kenilworth pub - my kinda research :drinks:) and am pleased to tell ya the Kenilworth Homestead is the best.   :yahoo: We got a big Verandah, aircon, kitchen, Fridges, Bike petting area, a real aussie bar, a coupla big shady trees and an outside fireplace that`s lightable even in the standard fireban -according to our hosts, (Bikers too)  Hell they even asked if we want some kayaks to float down the River. (Also cater for us to be flexible with numbers and notifications, but the sooner we email them and arrange to pay $25 the better - ) - check out the links on the original Downunder Rally notice.

I took the shortcut home (I`ve Never seen it policed cause its One way and often zero traffic, where I encourage sensible safe riding :diablo: through smooth tropically lined twisties up the Obi Obi Range incl banked 20 & 40klm bends ++) and on pass the Mapleton Pub & also checked out the English pub at Montville on top of the plateau with more sensational views of the Sunshine Coast, before ducking down 15klms through the valley canopy that hides the trendy Palmwoods Pub......... I digress, sorry...........uuumhhh where was I, oh yeah, .... If ya fly`n & Hire`n, let me know when, cause you`ll be picked up at the airport with optional Pre & Post Rally campin at my place. We got some big beasties for ya to choose from (none of which will match your homeley fj all round) but we can do a deal, in Brisbane, if Noosa is a bit pricey (PM me). For those that are stay`n awhile the Gold Coast Bike Show is on the following weekend. If ya bike`s not goin or if ya only use the fj motor as a lawnmower or somethin, ya most welcome to join in anywhere, especially round the campfire. :drinks: Oh and yeah there might be a lotta lies, noise and testosterone, but ladies that ride bikes (incl pillions) are really really welcome. Uncle Kook here.
Can you get some time off work? Need you to be with me for major operation on the Sunshine Coast 11th of feb.  Doc reckons I`ve been bitten (downunder) by something that`s making my genitals swell. My heart races, Palpatations, Halucinary feelings of Gliding Grandeur, Voices in my head coaxing me to a firepit of uncontrollable gorging, drinking and slander.
Anti Vanine requires me to remain upright, wear protective gear and a pad. Specialists attending include Motopsycopaths and Spannerologists along with my GP. Strife support system will be turned off Saturday evening.   Please be there.  :drinks:

The bikes are being looked at hard right now. 1) BMW 1000 RR. Pretty pricey. Fast, very comfy, more leg room than the FJ1200, handles like a true sport bike, did I mention fast. VBMW high cost of maintenance and repairs, robbery and the price of engineering by Germans. 2) Speed Triple - Bargain price with discounts, pretty comfy and roomy, a tad, ok, a lot, ugly from certain angles, really good handling, fast enough like an FJ1200. 3) Yamaha R1, not comfy really for a big guy, handles, fast, can find them chaep.

If I found an inexpensive pre-owned 1000 RR, I would be temped.

Dear uncle Kook,

Work is sporadic these days and I'm sure I can manage to organise a quiet period to help out with operation kookaloo down under. I can sympathise with you in your issues as I came down with a horrible case of hoonitis (very similar symptoms) not so long ago. Deliberations have concluded that the handbrake (her name is Sonya) will be joining us albeit twisty stuff :)

There is even possibility of a Mexican convoy heading north as a new steed is possibly on the horizon... More info on that soon, maybe.

Do these ridiculously cheap flights need to be booked asap or is this something that will be available for some time?

Sorry for my late response I've been busy sorting shit out, but now I can happily look forward to a few of these ones!!!>>>>>> :drinks:

Kind regards,

Ben.

Greetings Uncle Kook and all

Well I can confirm that another FJ'r from Melbourne (thats me) will be there. All I have to do now is decide whether to get a rental bike or road freight my FJ up there.  Reckon it would take me at least 3 days to ride up there and I'd probably have a crack at it if wasnt for the time of year  and I could take a few extra days off work. From what I can see a rental (Kawaka 1000) would cost around $500 for the weekend with a $5 grand insurance excess, so maybe road freight could work out ok $ wise besides it'd be a lot better having my FJ there. Am gonna get some freight quotes next week and will post them here just in case any other Melbourne FJers are thinking the same way as me.

Doug & all,

Confirming that I have followed directions, and sent off the email to Kennilworths signalling my intent.

If all who have posted to this thread actually attend, we should have a great rally.
This would be the largest Au  FJ rally since Tathra and the big blue whale :-)

Cheers,
Arnie

This is a shot of the FJ's big sister, Its our FJR1300 web club state of origin ride & piss up.
We hold it yearly at Belingen just inland from Coffs Harbour, its central to the caintoads & the cockroaches.
It has a very nice little motel & all types of rides around the Hinterland.
A more central location may help if we are going to make this a yearly event.
I will not commit as yet, had already booked the Gold coast bike Expo around the same time, but will try hard.

Megsy.

Just checked with jetstar. the present super Specials are on until tomorrow night.

There is a precedence for repeating individual specials closer to the Rally (Usually friday arvos) but can`t of course guarantee. (but generally inter-capital cities is pretty cheap, especially using your tank bag as only luggage - though I`ve noticed the magnets tend spark up the security guys from their sleep!! :diablo:) i`ve got a Sunshine Coast to Melb Road course that takes 3 days (The long way - but very very entertaining). It Would also pick up Thirroil, Sydney, Tamworth & canungra FJ`ers along the way. (Also got one to pick up the West Aussies but it takes a fraction longer )  Doug

Yeah Horse, That section recently received funding for completion prior to the Rally. (fingers crossed). I followed at least 50 Harleys from Woodford North up that range on the weekend also. They had the M&W mobile van following to pick up the breakdowns    :rofl2:- wished I had my video working.

Great to have caught up with some of ya over the holiday break. (including some great suggestions)

Harvy`s on the ball researching our ride options (along with testing his new Penski!  :good2:) and I`m really surprised at the number booked into the Homestead (Including 4 Honeymooners! :hi:)

Had some considerable debate over the best launch pad for our main Ride Saturday. It appears there`s might be enough booked in Friday to make kenilworth the successful nomination. However I know there`s a number that want to escape North  :yahoo: straight after work Friday arvo - some with Iron Butt challenges. PM me (if ya haven`t already) with departure times & suburb, if ya need  late night checkin accommodation and wish to share your sore arse with fellow fj`ers at breakfast,  :drinks: en route to the Venue/Main ride Group.  Doug  (popcorn)

Hey horse, Ive been thinkin  :praising:.... in your original intro you said you bought the fj without telling her (another story, according to same intro).....Lesson learnt horsey????? :rofl2:
Recently, one of our International members now residing IN MELBOURNE (2000KLMS AWAY) sent in a cry for help  :flag_of_truce: hoping one of his relatives in Brisbane might fall ill, around early February .  As Luck would have it, he received a letter from the hospital bed of one of his Uncle`s and will be holding the hand of same crook Uncle on the rally date.

Hmmmm......now given you live ONLY AN HOUR AWAY!!!!  :dash2: ...........We could send a representative... (You know.like ya see in that beer commercial) ...To explain the merits of an upcoming community meeting. He could be  :gamer:  :hi: attired in a hired suit with flowers and say...Italian chocolates. (Ya can gettem cheap from Aldi`s, but don`t let her open `em till after the Rally, cause they taste like shit)... or  :diablo: we could send him straight from his work on the Brisbane Wharf with his stubbies and singlet to display his tattoed art, along with his standard issued baseball bat.
And....given that there are already two ladies booked into the spa Accomodation at the Kenilworth Homestead (Along with their whimpy husbands)... ya could tie her battered body to the Givi rack and allow her to soothe her aches and pains at said resort on feb 11th.   Doug   (popcorn)

Guys,

Hope you're heads and bikes are all above the waterline.  Please dry out the roads before we all get up there.

I haven't had any reply from Kenilworth homestead either.  Hope we're not going to all roll up and find them closed.

We (Doug and myself) were going to ride most of the route we have planned for Sat 11th tomorrow......but its been absolutely pissing down.

I've been keeping an eye on the Qld Govt road closure/flooding web site:

http://highload.131940.qld.gov.au/#metropolitanIncidents (http://highload.131940.qld.gov.au/#metropolitanIncidents)

A good number of the roads we had planned to take are at the moment "quite damp", to put it mildly.

I had even created Google Maps route plans. I hope the next couple of weeks stays a bit dryer so the roads get a chance to dry and the "road rooters" (council and Main Roads repair gangs) can patch up some potholes.

Doug has also mentioned the possibility of a rally shirt to commemorate our gathering...... so if anyone is interested please give us a shout so we can see what can be done and what sort of price can be arrived at.

Cheers
Harvy

Hi one & all.

Who has what booked at the B&B ??

I have a spa room held (deposit not paid as yet) waiting to see what Bunk rooms with showers are left.

Are all the held Bunk rooms filled? as I may take 1 to fill the booking.

Not being unsociable but I will take a room on my own, shared on trips before & been bitten  :cray:

Harvy,

I am not one to (normally) praise VicRoads.  In fact, I believe they should be denied air as a general principle.
However, they have recently changed their road closure webpage from a list like your link supplies to an interactive road map showing the closed roads.  Take a look:  http://alerts.vicroads.vic.gov.au/ (http://alerts.vicroads.vic.gov.au/)

Cheers,
Arnie

Megsy,  c'mon tell us who bit you, :-)  and did it get infected?

Good work Doug ( and Harvs).

I just rang Kenilworth and let them know I will be travelling up there Friday arvo, so as long as they are keeping track of numbers, should be oki doki.  Just did some long overdue FJ maintenance, new plugs/air filter/fuel filter/oil filter, just watching a small weep on the original FJ filter housing, (knew I should have replaced the damn o-ring!).  Probably won't have time to get the bike booked in to get the forks serviced, (haven't changed seals myself yet, looks a bit daunting), but otherwise all ready to go. WooHoo!!!!

Oh, have to fix up the bellypan where the old repaired wing finally snapped off again,

Whatever ya do don`t follow a GPS via Mapleton (off Bruce HWY down the Obi Obi). It`s one-way dirt & prettywell washed out. Fortunateley, coming up (Day 1 and Day 2 of Rally) is also oneway but 2 lanes wide, smooth bitumen with loads of twisties  :yahoo:)

:gamer: Put together a real classey Polo shirt for the Rally:-
http://www.stencil.net.au/products/polos/the-active-polo/1031-mens-short-sleeved (http://www.stencil.net.au/products/polos/the-active-polo/1031-mens-short-sleeved)

Embroided repeat EMBROIDED (84 FJ ) pic on LH chest. with the following EMBROIDED text underneath :"1984 - 1993" then "FJ1100 -  FJ1200" underneath (in correct fonts & colours).
RH sleeve has "2012 Australian Rally" Total cost $59 but be quick (like today or maybe tomorra at the latest) if ya want it for the Rally. (Also if ya want an extra blue pic (93 FJ) on the sleeve it`ll cost ya an extra $15. Also available in ladies styled sizes. :music:

The vote was to make it available to Rally attendees only (sorry). Just PM me the size ya want & I`ll put it on my credit card. (bring the cash to the Rally) Note: These are a bit less than cost cause I already paid for design & setup by east Coast Embroidery (Maroochydore)  Doug

Sorry for the delay Megsy.  :negative: You`ve definateley gotta ensuited room. (Let me know if ya want a Rally shirt - with a pic of your bike on it too :good:) We`ve been in some heavy negotiation to have "Knotts cottage" for friday night in addition ta Saturday night. It costs $150 a night (2 doubles & 3 singles).  I suspect reception was a bit vague so more would split the cost of the cottage for friday night, but we`re getting it sorted by a mate from the Brissie Wharf.  :mail1: (Technically accom houses don`t let ya in till around midday, so we needed the cottage to ensure all arrivals on Saturday AM can use it for storage in the morn, (While Riding with less luggage) while the spa guys can jump in their baths when we return Saturday arvo. (If lead riders havent beaten`m to their bubbly tubs )

Knott`s Cottage is surrounded by an ideallic picket fence with a gate that only bikes & guests can get through. Verandahs with BBQ, Coupla big shady trees, open fire pit, DVD for some bike movies, air con, fridges (but only one bathroom & Toilet - However full amenities block not far away,- if ya like to fart out loud in peace).  We`ll organise stocking fridges with refreshments and tucker on friday from the local shops.

Good news is there`s plenty of extra room if some lurkers decide to come on a whim.  :drinks: There`s some I know that understandably prefer not to commit, rather than be unreliable due to work etc.  - but I know they`re bustin to be there. Harvy will post Route & ride agenda soon. (We will be inspecting recent storm cleanups first)  Doug

Hi Doug.

When yah say ensuited room,
is that the spa room I have on hold or one of the cabins you booked ???
As I am waiting to see if you have filled your bookings before I confirm mine.
(Thats a room on my own, I will pay the cabin minimum price for 2)

I will have a shirt in blue & white 5xl or 6xl if possible,

I will be there Friday, but most likely be driving up, just too far to ride in 1 day getting back Sunday hung over :wacko3:

So it will be now on all Polo Shirts odered. (That mate from the Brisbane Wharf was in my area today  :diablo:). Total price only $59 (refer to earlier Downunder Rally Post)

Baldy, X-Ray, I hope to be able to get off work early Friday arvo and will meet you guys at the Big Fish servo (Pumicestone Rd exit) if that's convenient.

On a disturbing note, I was speaking with Jill this morning on Skype - Klavdy is in ICU at Robina hospital in an induced coma... Seems some serious infection has set in, so I doubt we will be seeing him next weekend.

Ok, Internet has been off all day, finally got it back.

Baldy, Harvs, yep I'm taking Friday off so I can be at The Big Fish between 3-4 easy. (or whatever time)  My number is 38020972 or mobile 0407151019. Should be a good weekend, just finished putting on the new o ring for the filter housing to stop that leak, (which I should have done when I changed the oil.). Heres hoping the fork seals last the weekend, because I can't afford to get them done any time soon, bit of a weep, but should be ok as long as I don't pound them.

And what the heck happened to Klav?? I was going to ring him this weekend to see if he was coming, bloody hell.  :shok:

Arnie picks up FJ2 at around 1.30PM from my place and will either join our "Convoy" or duck back to Noosa & return in the morning. Flips is doing an "iron Butt" from Sydney and will be probably later. The rest (incl fly-ins & honeymooners) are expected at the Homestead around 8am Saturday, all fueled up  :morning2: for the Run up the Obi Obi Range. Friday night we`ll probly duck inta downtown Kenilworth to taste Country Hospitality :drinks:, followed by snacks and a fire maybe :drinks:. Saturday would be brekky & welcoming of more riders for an 8 -ish departure :morning1:. Then up the oneway slalom of banked curves, a left at Mapleton followed by an Ooohs & aaahhs break at Dulong lookout I reckon :gamer:

, A wee break at Woodford to show off the ear ta ear grins , bakery sojourn at kenilworth  :nyam1:(say 10 -ish) with some new mates.

Somerset sensations, followed by a morning Glorious and an Aussie Pub celebration at Dayborah. (12.30 ish) :drinks:

Hours later we could meander thru Harvy`s favourite twisties  :yahoo: down the Range then back up the Sunshine Coast hinterland Plateau by the famous Stanley river Road. We Couldn`t pass Mary Caircross road again without a stop at McCarthy lookout to test the wide angle lenses,  then a parade thru Melaney and off to contribute to the headwaters of the mighty Mary River at hippydale .. ah sorry....Conondale.  :rofl:Then fleeting views of some of the best camping spots the Aussie bush can deliver till finally the "peice da resistonce" curvey intro to great coffee at Pete`s cafe  :nyam1: (time permitting) with resident platypus & motorcycle memorabilia before maybe a taste of the famous Milkshakes at the Kenilworth Cheese factory before waddling inta the K-worth Homestead.

Now there`s no bath at Heritage listed FJheadquarter`s -(Knott`s cottage)- so ta be fair we`ll take turns at the spa tub - with you last, - so ya have more time to relax.

Saturday nights a bit of a secret :scratch_one-s_head: ...... on account of we haven`t figured out how to get a lift to the pub & back - but we`re in touch with the hotelier by basebat phone and we got a plan B followed by a plan H. --- Now if ya still hungry or thirsty when the firelight is slowly turnin ta ash .....ya a better man than me gungadin,...I`ll be in bed and would suggest ya stay clear of our bathroom in the morn. :sarcastic:

Terrific meeting you Tim. Hope you used a key to gain access!  :sarcastic: Got any pics, movies? Sensational weather ay, Awesome Scenery, food, fire and Port. The ladies impressed me the most. (Understandable, their partners are whimps! :mocking:) - Ashes from the fire have been salvaged for the inaugral "Perpetual Trophy", with the holding nominee selected from the Rally awardees.

The Vote for the 2013 Aussie Rally is Kyogle in Northern NSW (Not far from the Gold Coast :yahoo:) for early March or late April.  Suspect overseas visitors would prefer March. (off ta get some sleep :bye2:)  Doug

I'll wack up some pics tomorrow night, very tired now. I managed 846 ks over the weekend, the FJ loved it!.(Plus, no more leaking fork seal, I think the ride massaged it back into shape, lol) Great meeting some new faces and catching up with some already known ones. Geoff, (or is it Jeff?) from Sydney and I scooted back from Kenilworth this morning, stopped at Kilcoy, then traveled back to Esk/Fernvale and then the back way to the Mount Lindsay H'Way. Man, the new road work along the Ipswich Motorway was unbearable, just stinking boiling hot with a dirty new tar smell, blah. We stopped just near where I turned off home, Geoff (or Jeff, ) headed towards Beaudesert, and Kyogle on his way south.

Big question Geoff, did you happen to hit the massive storm that hit home a couple of hours later?. Monsoonal rain, lightning, HAIL, freaky wind, was a bit violent, hopefully you went around it.

Top weekend, apart from the moronic kiwis next door to me yelling outside my door at 5.30am this morning, "throw the esky in the car Bro!" and other assorted crap. Some people think everyone must wake up at the same time as them.

Great work on the organisation side of things too General,  :drinks:

Ray.

Hey Guys.

It's 6:30 am Monday morning Sydney time.Arrived home about half an hour ago  :hang1:.Couldn't manage to get around the freaky storm.Got caught on the open road without wet weather gear about 30Min's after Ray & I parted company, hit with hail, bucket size rain drops, and blown all over the shop  :dash2:.Eventually found refuge with a triumph rider at a little petrol station at the lions road turn off.He advised me not to go that way as the spillways were overflowing. The storm got me again just after Kyogle.Roads were flooding and I couldn't see shit, so again had to find refuge for an hour. :dash2:.Then it was spitting rain & fog all the way back to Sydney. :dash1: I might be pissed off If I hadn't of met a bunch of interesting ,fun cool people and had a blast on the rally :yahoo:!.Thanks everyone  :good:.I think I managed about 2700km all up.Anyway, more later...I'm off to have a HOT shower, pull some magnets out of me butt and crash out for a while

Cheers :drinks:

Needed to do this sort of thing 2 or 3 times a year?

Yeah, ya did get the Claytons award this year but ya got some points up for the leadership award (harvy won it) when ya decided ta stick around the fire till (almost) stumps - (bet it wasn`t just the spa that went cold). :rofl2:
Given that it`s near the Gold Coast next year, we should wait till mid mid winter for a Rally Research trip.....You know, ...sometime when it`s really really cold.... like maybe 18 deg C.  :sarcastic: (what`s seppo for that???  :scratch_one-s_head: 9/5 +32??) Holy shiit Jeff, I`m gunna have ta make an exec decision and review awards documented on Saturday evening. :mail1: The Iron butt award was a tie between you and the pillion riders that endured 400klms ++ hold`n on to maniacs  :diablo: that seemed to snap at the site of smooth forested twisties. You lost points for not fuelin up at somewhere near midnite friday when ya merged from the dirt tracks the GPS had sent ya down. ......Hmmmm. now lets see thats 15hrs in tha saddle friday, less 1000pts for no fuel at tha start  :bad: + 4 or 5hrs Saturday + 18hrs Sunday + ya didn`t stay in a spa room  + no whimpy excuses like induced Coma or somethin............... Yep, ...on a recount you`ve scraped in for the inaugral FJ Downunder Rally Iron Butt award - Congratulations Mate (...oh yeah...it`s customery to bring ya award to the next Rally for up and coming challengers. :sarcastic:)

Well done blokes, sounds like everyone had a great time with some top effort long distances put in.
There is another Aussie Rally planned, this ones a little later in the year down near Dorrigo.
A mate of mine has a couple hundred acres on the Grafton/Nymboida/Armidale road and he's been at me to organise a Rally there.
This will be a combined Rally, not just an FJ one.
Combined as in blokes from other lists with other types of bikes, dunno if there would be any Cruisers but.
These other blokes like to ride.
Dog Breath knows a couple of the blokes (Thommo et al) that would probably turn up.
This one would be more of a bring your swag type of deal, there's showers and a big shed to sleep in but it's the blokes house, not an accommodation place.
I had spoken to him (JAF) about a mob staying at the Coachman Inn at Nymboida but he won't have a bar of it.
Wants us to stay there.
We'd organise a band, pig on a spit, couple kegs etc, there's good runs up and down Waterfall Way and of course the Grafton/Nymboida Rd itself.
Fuck all cops there and we've got a pretty good intel service anyway.
I'm inclined to have it in, oh, June/July.
It's cold there at night but beaut , clear crisp days.
Whaddya reckon?

Here's a pic of my guts, it's why I didn't go to the rally.

Don't look if you're a squeamish poove.

18C = 68F or close enough for film processing.

Kyogal seems like a long way north.  Weren't we talking about Bellingen?  That's still pretty close to an Iron-Butt for me.

Interesting to see that they put a zip in Klavdy's gut. Is that how they remove some of them shit help keeps typing? :-)

G'day fellow FJ'ers,

Sorry to report that the good photos I took of our group with my BRAND NEW Samsung Galaxy S2 phone are gone along with the phone.  It was stolen from our holiday flat in Noosa Heads Saturday/Sunday night while we (and another couple) slept.  Waiting to hear if I have any coverage from insurance.

Same night another holiday flat in our complex was hit.  Thieve(s) actually went into the bedroom to take laptop, IPhone, and Kindle Fire from a (current serving) Brisbane cop and his wife.  Also in the other bedroom his father (retired UK cop) and wife slept on.

What kind of place you guys running up there?  Certainly have some brazen crims!

Other than that, the holiday was great.  Fantastic weather and great to have met all you other FJ'ers.
I'm going to try and make it to PI this weekend - will try to catch up with you there.

Note: Please PM me your mobile numbers, as they went with the phone too.

Faaarkkk Arnie, I HATE THIEVING SCUMBAGS!.  I've had 2 cars stolen in the past, chop off their hands Saudi Arabia style for theft if you ask me.

I've been a bit slack, but here is the link for the 40 odd photos I took  http://s367.photobucket.com/albums/oo115/raywise_2008/2012%20Downunder%20FJ%20Rally%20Kennilworth%20Qld/ (http://s367.photobucket.com/albums/oo115/raywise_2008/2012%20Downunder%20FJ%20Rally%20Kennilworth%20Qld/)    When you click on the thumbnails, the photos come up a size, then you can click on them again to go super size, as I've uploaded the originals without shrinking. I'm pretty sure you can copy/keep any you want as well.  :good2:

Hi All ,
Well im stuck in Bathurst still working, never had a chance to attend even via tin can, bit depressed i missed the first but has made me more motivated to shift planets if need be to attend the next, Glad to see you blokes had a good time and sorry about the robbery Arnie but its not the queenslanders fault its all the victorians moving up there that cause that! LOL  My brother parked his car in Pacific Fair car park for 17 minutes after an all day drive from Canberra a few years ago only to return to the car park to find his colour coded Cibie Spotties Gone! It was like " Welcome to Queensland "( least he still has the covers )

So whats the plan for the next one so i can move off from the depression of missing this one ?

2012 Downunder Rally Results.  :yahoo:
Further to the documented minutes of the convened extraordinary meeting of the Downunder Rally committee,  (i,e.Finally found that pub napkin with the port stains)- The winners are:

Bitumen Award:   Darran & Danielle (oz.fj) – Cause they used it all.
Especially down Harvy`s favourite twisties. Not all Darran`s bruises were from the spa escapades. Danielle delivers her thank you`s with a sharp jab to his RHS ribs. I witnessed one of them after a little slide he saved on a loose Bald knob road left hander.

Woops Award: Timbo  :dash1:
It was late on Friday night when I returned from guard duty at the Pub. I quietened my beast with a flick of the key and dismounted on the verandah. Suddenly,  Timbo emerged from his room in awful bed attire and thrust a beer in me hand. The click of the door behind him raised his eyebrows, yet he  stared straight ahead into the darkness behind me - in silence for at least 1 second - followed by short expletives!   Only one of the entire "non spa" crew had a room key, yes it was a master and yes it was now secure INSIDE Timbo`s  locked room.

Damaged Award: Arnie
Wore off the gear lever circlip and found it a hazard to drive with a foot of linkages dragging behind.

Bright Sparks Award:  Baldy  :pardon:
Showered me with them on 5 of the last dozen corners before Pete`s café at the end of a great day.

Pacesetter Award: Had to be Harvy  :gamer:
While he lost points for not stopping at McCarthy lookout he did indeed set a mean responsible pace that didn`t loose anyone and kept us all hangin on for more.

Claytons Award:  RoverFJ1200 Richard & julie
That`d be "The ride ya have when ya not havin a ride"

Now for the Three major exec Awards presented. (No nominees for Globerotter award 2012)
"IRONBUTT"     "Best Presented FJ"       "The Ashes"

Note: It`s  Combasebattery,  :diablo: (ozspeak for compulsory) that all awards be returned to the following 2013 Rally. The points totalled are non contestable and decided by secret ballot from attendees.

Ironbutt:  flips  :good2:
- as ya know was nearly outdone on handicap points by the insane pillion ladies, but a seriously deserved winner at 2700klms (Incl bonus points for rain and dirt)

Best Presented: Goes ta X-Ray
- for a really nice polished steed with bareley a mark on it. Hope ta see more of her & him.

Now "The Ashes" is a developed concept by the Brits as a symbol of "One Upmanship" in the poncey cricketing world where the first original bales (don`t ask!) were cremated and kept as a kinda monument to the best there is. It`s fought over every year  :drinks: just to have it on ya shelf between Rallys.
Our Quest has sporting similaritys in that it goes ta the most points hit without getting caught or run out with a bat. We also scratch  balls and are inta leather, helmet, gloves and shit. But in FJ world we can differ with "Twoupmanship".  (Like Anzac day – but when ya get home )
So it is indeed an honour on behalf of the 2012 Downunder Rally Committee  to award "The Ashes" ta the two up team -  oz.fj - of Danielle & Darran  :yahoo: :yahoo: :i_am_so_happy:
For gaining the most points all up, and also for remembering ta get the Ashes from our inaugrel firepit when I told`em.

Now Darran, mate, all ya gotta do between fixin roofs & stuff is make a presentation housing (trophy size) for it, (Drum shaped?, Bike shaped, Roo or turds, you know- something representative of this forum- suggestions anyone?- perhaps PM the committee) – but able ta survive Interstate & international quarantine regulations.

Next Rally is Bellingen Valley Lodge www.bellingenvalleylodge.com.au/ (http://www.bellingenvalleylodge.com.au/)  on March 16th 2013 and includes St Patricks Day.- if Baldy brings that Port, ya won`t need anything else to  be "Green".  :bad:

Are you sticking your hand up Baldy? If it's in Bellingen we are definitely going to have to get that new seat. Spoke to A Moorhouse from the impression I got he could get it done by about next March   (popcorn)

Hey!  Exec Committee,

I'll grudgingly accept that award, but I think it was sabotaged to test how I'd perform when it fell apart.
In the event I dealt with it admirably, diagnosing the problem, realizing that I could continue riding without danger to myself or others, warning others that this bike was not 100% by activating the 4-way flashers, and with the assistance of Harvy's proffered cable tie, repair it sufficiently to continue riding with full use of the sabotaged shifter.
Now having experienced the sudden failure when the clip disappeared, it might be prudent to use a cable tie fix as prophylactic even on unbroken shifter mounts.

I think a more apt award would be "master diagnostician and repairer" instead of "bike breaker".

Cheers,
Arnie    :sarcastic:

PS I should have done a thorough inspection of the bike at time of taking possession of it rather than my (obviously false) belief that the bike was in sound and roadworthy condition.

Hi Exec Committee,

I humbly and proudly accept the honorary "IRON BUTT" award for the 2012 OZFJRALLY even though it has been pointed out that the real deal is 1600km in 24hrs.My Apologies to the ladies!.I was hoping for a look in for the best presented but due to inclement weather (The bike was spotless when I left Sydney :cray:) and a suspected bias against ambulance colour scheme (mine was the only one... :shok:) I was not in the running. Those disadvantages aside Xrays machine still would have been tough to beat...verrry cleean & shiiinnyy! .If there had of been a "biggest chicken strip" award I would have won it easily. This may explain the ambulance colour scheme bias!.I keep looking at the suspension on my thunderace.....hmmmm

Thanks & Cheers :drinks:

Jeff P

p.s Is there a trophy or something?...or do you make your own?....maybe a bronze (or iron?) casting of the appropriate part of my anatomy?....

Yeah we originally called it the "Leadfoot" award then decided "damaged" could have so many connotations for future, particular awardees.  :rofl2: Ya gained points for improvisation but lost heaps for not using a whole packed of cable ties to fix all those rattles  :negative: . I thought my "fix" was better in this area. (ear plugs)- so bike was definateley classed as in "sound" condition.  -  Will accept ya formal protest application if it`s on a Bar coaster at Phillip Island,  Sunday.  :drinks:

Hmmmm, no, not totally correct. Have been out twice in the last year before this big outing, only around 200ks in total though,  :dance2:
Was talking to Neville, (GTS1000) in the shed tonight about our weekend away and said we have to GET OUT FOR MORE RIDES. He agreed.

Doug,

You're gonna want to take a good look at that GTS1000.  Almost identlcal front end to the Tesi you were drooling over at PI WSB.  Even has hub center steering.  It also has a great advantage over the Tesi, it uses a nice reliable Yamaha FZR1000 engine.

Cheers,
Arnie

 Hey Harvey :hi:
That looks good.
But ,if it's to be an international award
I can't see a white powdery substance housed in a vessel making it through customs :unknown:
We could always give it to Baldy and Klav to test this theory
But I think they'll get into enough trouble over there by themselves

The fun part will be them trying to get back....We hide all kinds of things in their gear that raise questions with customs....Or at least present a question of their moral character to TSA agents....

Just rub a banana skin on someone's luggage, the sniffer dogs in Australia will alert to the scent.
Leads to full searching of passenger and luggage.

Yep spose I gotta accept the woops award, but please let me add that it's worse when your'e locked in!!! :flag_of_truce:

Cheers Timbo...(soon to be united).

Starting to plan 2013, have some other bike stuff in March but will commit to this rally.

If we are still looking at Belingen, better start booking enquiries, as there is only one motel in town, other acc is pubs & but not as secure & easy, (byo etc).

We tried to book the Motel for a vintage jap ride 2 months in advance & it was booked out.
