Dates for the 2017 Midwest/Central Rally are now: 08/11 - 08/13 (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).
Location for the 2017 Midwest/Central Rally: The Round Barn Lodge (http://www.theroundbarnlodge.com), E4830 US-14, Spring Green, WI 53588
The owners of The Round Barn Lodge are keeping a block of rooms at the lodge, for the dates above. I told them the group's name is FJowners, so let them know you're with this group.
Regarding rooms and rates, here's what I was sent by their Reservation Desk:

IF you desire a cheaper room, they also own a no-tell motel type place across the street from the main lodge. I've stayed there when all the rooms were booked at the main lodge, and they were all that were left. The rooms reflect the cheaper rate, and they're a place to flop for the night. Ask about them, if you are interested. There's also the chance they don't own this motel anymore, because I didn't discuss it with them, and I stayed there three years or so ago.

Wouldn't mind a rally in the Wisconson Dells area. Very pretty country side. But the Don Q Inn? Hadn't planned on the rally becoming a romantic interlude. Is there mirrors on the ceilings?
Dave
Mirrored ceilings or not, you can count me in. I'm in Illinois about 100 miles straight west of Chicago.
rossi
Add me as a possible!
Yah count me in :good:
I'm 15 miles north from Wi Dells, Dodgeville is roughly 40 mi. south of the Dells area. there are several campgrounds in the Dells area that are Motorcycle friendly and yes there are lots of great roads around here. I'm in...pending dates. Charley.
This looks very promising. Count me in.

Dave
Ohhhh...yes! Count me in! :good2:
I would totally be up for a Wisconsin Rally being I live in Minnesota!!! I'm sure my dad would also be interested...
If you guys wanted I could ride out to hwy 33, scope it out and report back. I live near Rochester MN and Lacrosse is about two hours east of me.
I was looking for a reason to ride 400 miles this weekend anyway
YES! Count me in too! Another Minnesota native here. I was going to head out to this area a little over a week ago but ended up going north instead. I have always wanted to explore this area more! But totally agree, this part of Wisconsin is way beautiful. It is still only a "day" ride from home- this time I can do it during normal daylight hours.
Rally # 2 - here I come! :yahoo:

No dates, or cemented lodging, just throwing it out for discussion. Wouldn't be surprised if there was no interest though.
Plenty of good riding (considering the area) around.

Good bit of interest early-on. Good to see.
Did a little research for lodging...
Stayed here twice for two motorcycle events. Great owners. The barN on the premises is a good time, and you can stumble back to your cabin.

Charley.
Either 08/04 - 08/06, or 08/11 - 08/13. These are the weekends that the Sturgis Rally is for 2017, and having the FJ rally on either, would cut down on the amount of rolling roadblocks that may be encountered on the Wisconsin backroads we'd ride on.
The logic of the weekend dates picked is perfect. :good:
Having never been to south western Wisconsin, what are the typical noon to 5pm temperatures?
I know in south Central Kansas, temperatures during this time of year are typically in the upper 90's to low 100's.
Fred
I think 55 North of Keshena on the Menomonee reservation. Is the best road in Wisconsin. Only 26miles. It has slow vehicle turn offs every couple miles. I'm pretty sure they built It just so people will come to ride/drive it. And stop at their casino that Is a couple of miles from one end. I've met people from other states that said they come there just to ride that road. It's 150ish miles from the Dell's though. There is a place that rents rafts to run the river(Shotgun Eddy raft rentals) Right on that stretch of road. Could make a day of riding and rafting.
Or If you don't want to get wet. You can always go loose some wages at the casino.

Fred, the temps are generally in the 80's that time of year, a comfortable temp. The only thing that can get bad is the humidity.
I can make the 4th-6th but not the later weekend (11th-13th)...
It occurred to me that the area we'd be in might be a little cruiser-heavy.
When's the 2017 Central Rally in Ouray? My kids live in Denver and I'm planning on making that trip - hate to have it conflict.

There isn't a plan to have a rally in Ouray for 2017. Alan did most of the legwork on that one for 2016 (and it was *awesome*), but he's attending the WCR this time around.
The "Central Rally" has moved around a lot over the years, but at least in the last few, it's been scheduled for the weekend following the WCR. The idea behind that has always been that a group of WCR guys can just attend both one after the other. Many of us have made a nice motorcycle trip out of it getting from one to the other and it adds 5-8 extra FJ guys to the Central Rally.
With a "Central" rally not being planned elsewhere, is there any consideration for having this 2017 Wisconsin Rally on the weekend following the WCR? That would make it June 8th - 11th.

No consideration was given.
There tends to be a lot of sand that collects in certain places of the secondary roads in WI from hard rains and snow melt early in the year. It usually takes some good rains and extended time for it to go away for the most part, so later in the riding season is better than early. In August, the weather is more stable as well. Early June could be problematic for weather.
In addition to the above, I previously stated that the one of the two weekends in August would be good since there would be less rolling roadblocks and more bar stools available during that time frame.
I have also heard of a possible Central Rally ('17) located in the Ozarks of Arkansas. Correct me if I am wrong but I think this would be an awesome area to have a rally.
Fred, I think you spoke of the Ozarks a while back.
Marty made some good points about having the Wisconsin Midwest Rally occur in August instead of June.

I can assure you that the Ozarks has enough great roads, views and food to make it well worth the trip. Of course, I might be a little biased.....
Joe
I think I was the only one that made it to the Arkansas rally/ride this year. It was great as always. The Hub is the place for riding home base in the Ozarks. Posted some pics of the rally/ride this year.
I would rather use the later dates also for Wisconsin.

If there was enough interest in another Colorado Rally in Ouray for 2017, I could organize it. I just wouldn't be able to attend.
With the amount of vacation time that I currently get, and having to balance Rally-time with Family trips, along with other stuff that I have planned, I can usually only attend one Rally per year.
For 2017 I've already committed my Rally-time to the WCR.
I could contact the folks down in Ouray and set things up however.

I would like to keep the aforementioned August weekends for the Midwest Rally.
Regarding the Road America Events (http://www.roadamerica.com/buy-tickets.html) that you mention:
I have been wanting to go to them for a long time. Since I moved to MN from OH a decade ago, I miss the Mid-Ohio course and its events.
I would suggest starting a topic in the - Join Me for a Ride! - section, to gauge interest in others attendance for an event at Road America. I would be interested in one myself.
Thanks.

Thanks for the idea on the Rally shirt. We'll see what others thinks about it.
Sent you a PM too.
As of this writing, 909 views for this topic, but no responses or feedback on choices of lodgings, or much on the proposed dates. Trying to be democratic about this, and offer choices, but if there's a lack of feedback, I see two choices.
1. Just pick a date and place and run with it.
2. Delete the topic.
Anyone want to add anything about the above?
Thanks.
I'll make it to what ever is decided on. Might be the only rally I can get to. Don't really care where you stay. Depending on finances I might have to ride from home.
I would say just pick something and run with it.
But please do.
Thanks
Dan
After further investigation of the Don Q Inn I take back my early post. It has a good location. Restaurant on premises. Reasonable standard room rates. In door pool. Dells not to far away.
Could ride west to Mississippi river road and up to Lacrosse and back. Could ride around the Dells. I think the Don Q is a good base for headquarters Marty.
Dave
Sounds like a great idea, count me in. I like the August dates also.
Kurt
Don't care about the dates or the lodging - it's close enough for me to make any weekend. I go with the "pick a date and run with it" option.
rossi
I have done a little bit of research and this is what I have come up with for ideas.
Recommended dates: 8/4-8/6
Either the Round Barn Lodge http://www.theroundbarnlodge.com/home.html (http://www.theroundbarnlodge.com/home.html) or the Don Q Inn http://www.donqinn.net/rooms.asp (http://www.donqinn.net/rooms.asp) My preference would be the Round Barn Lodge.
I looked at the Blue Highway Motorcycle Lodge http://www.bluehighwaymotorcyclelodge.net/ (http://www.bluehighwaymotorcyclelodge.net/) The downfall with this location is that there is only 5 cabins.
At the moment, IMO, this Rally will be in place of the Central Rally for 2017.
Fred
I like the idea, and if circumstances, time, and finances allow, I'll be there.

Firstly, what happen on rally stays on rally, unless it is really embarrassing, then it is shared shamelessly for the whole world to know.
Mainly it is about meeting up with friends, old and new, networking, getting ideas to spend your hard earned money on. Lots of story swapping over a beer or 10 and riding these wonderful bikes that we love so much.
Getting to one of the rallies in the US is very high on my "To Do" list. But going by the ones I have been to here in Australia, they are lots of fun.

Thanks for your interest in attending the 2017 Central Rally. It would be great to have you there.
There hasn't been "Central" rallies in Wisconsin before to my knowledge, although I put a small gathering of FJ owners together a few years back for a weekend. Therefore, this is in essence, the first official Central Rally for our neck of the woods.
I have access to some routes to ride, and I may post them, as the Rally approaches. I will ride a route or two, and I am looking into a TBD lunch stop, that would accommodate several riders. All attendees, are free to lead and/or ride their own groups and routes, and at their own paces too. There are racer types, and those who just want to putt around and enjoy the roads at their own pace, so riders are free to enjoy whatever riding experiences that they fancy. Kind of a hands-off approach the the Rally.
The location for the Rally, has decent accommodations for food and drink, and it would be great if all or some could gather and have a banquet of some sort on Saturday evening. Feedback on this would be welcome. Unlike other rallies, it isn't centered at a campground, so there will be no campfire(s) to gather around. Hence, the idea of the banquet.
Mark is spot-on with his comments above about FJ Rallies, and his comments are appreciated.
Lastly, you do not specifically have to own an FJ to attend, if you have another riding buddy whom you like to ride with, they are welcome too.
Hope to see you (and many others ) there.
Marty
I generally like to follow... Keeps me out of trouble. But have taken the lead a couple of times. Like Push Mountain.. I just had to let her rip. But then I pull over and rejoin the group... Like I said keeps me out of trouble. Even the guys that like to enjoy the scenery run a good pace. Not like some of the excruciatingly slow rides I've been on with Harley guys... Been on a few of those that aren't about the ride. Just about getting to the next bar.
Haven't met an FJ rider yet I didn't like.
I'm follower, too. I'm also s-l-o-w.
That's never been an issue at a Rally, and I've been attending since 2004. You'll find other riders who ride at a similar pace - we tend to break up into smaller groups that are based on riding style and personal preference\interest. Historically, we'll start out in the morning, break into groups, meet somewhere during the day, and then hook back up at "camp" for BS and general cameraderie.
And I'll echo giantkiller's sentiment - I haven't met anyone in this group that I didn't like.

Thanks for the links to rides in the area. I looked them over, and they are both helpful and familiar. Good resources for others to review and use too.
There are many good roads in the area of the Central Rally. One in particular, is County Road P. It runs east/west out of Coon Valley to Rockton. If you zoom in on the map for Highway 33 ride in the link that you've provided, you can see it nearby. Of course Highway 33 as it goes through/over Wildcat Mountain is a must ride. However, there's law enforcement usually lurking just off the highway before you enter (usually just outside of Ontario), ready to pounce on speeders coming through. A bar in Rockton usually holds a big chicken dinner/BBQ on Sundays, that attracts many motorcyclists. Not sure if anyone would be up for this, because the Rally ends on Sunday though. It is a place to stop at for a bite, on other days though. Something to consider.

In the Spirit of the West Coast Rally and their dinner menu. For the Central Rally, Cheese Curds and Beer will do... :drinks:

Fred, there is plenty of room at the Inn.
You don't have to miss it...

I'm thinkin' we need to take a ride east along the river and pay this place a visit.

I spent the holiday weekend riding the roads around the surrounding areas of the Central Rally's headquarters, with a couple of other riders (non-FJ). I have come up with a pretty good route, that goes north, then west to the Mississippi River, then south, and back east to the Rally's home base. Twisties, sweepers, elevation changes, scenery, some boredom, but not much. It's around 250 miles long. Gas stops, food places (none of which, will win any culinary awards).
Riding pace will be spirited, but no knee-dragging, or triple digit speeds either.
Attendance of the ride will require your cell number, and an emergency contact with their phone number, for obvious reasons.
Come along if you want. If you don't want to do the whole thing, bring a map, there's plenty of places to bail, and then go where you want on your own.

Care to post details?
On a separate note, we may have another member joining us. I just talked to Tim Collings (Pocket Bike Tim) from Rantoul, IL and he's planning on being there.

I highlighted the route with a highlighter on this (http://shop.milwaukeemap.com/sw-wi-road-map) handy map that I bought years ago. No GPS route to share. Sorry.
The route goes due north out of Spring Green, and over to and through Richland Center. It goes no further north than Soldiers Grove. And no further north on the Mississippi River than Ferryville. When going south along the Mississippi River, and then away from it, the route goes southeast to the Wisconsin river before and north of Prairie du Chien. It crosses the river at Boscobel, and then stays close to the south side of the Wisconsin river, heads east, then crosses over the Wisconsin River to Spring Green.
It would be great to have Tim at the Rally. The more, the merrier.

Thanks! No problem about the GPS track; my GPS is pretty old and won't import tracks anyway. Plus, I'm a paper-map kind of guy...the GPS is only for telling me
Where the hell am I right now?.
:pardon:

And I thought I was last of the dying breed that's like that!
My plans have changed and it looks like I will be riding in on Friday morning (instead of Saturday), sometime before noon.
Anyone have a ride in mind for Friday?
Just putting this out there so you can keep an eye out for me!
Can't wait, this is going to be a lot of fun!

Unless plans change, I should be there late Thursday afternoon. On Friday I'm considering a leisurely ride east along the north side of river (Rt. 60), maybe take in the place I mentioned earlier - Dr. Evermor's Forevertron - and some general wanderin' around. But I'm open to suggestions...

Unless I can get out of it, I'll have to work a half day on Friday. Won't be down until suppertime, or so. Enjoy your rides.
