I bought my 85 FJ1100 at the end of May 2013 and been bringing her back to life. I am a car builder thats now getting into bikes and its been a lot of fun. I bought the bike from the PO and it had been sitting for about 5 months and was all dirty and poorly put together. I have put some new but still temporary paint on her until I get some more cash flow and I will do the real paint job. I have needed help along the way and can't say thank you enough to guys like Randy who has my carbs and others on this site for helping with ideas and info to help me along.

The pic from the PO

The first day of me owning it, cleaned up and torn down.

This was about two weeks into ownership and trying to figure out why it would only run on choke and had a popping out of the exhaust. I ordered jets that the company said would be correct and they sent me 45 pilots lol for a full vance and hines and pod filters so my bike flooded. In the mean time while that company wasted my time I got bored and desided I wanted something other than boring flat black like it was from the PO and trying to come up with ideas.

Randy now has my carbs and cleaning them so when I can ride it and don't feel like working on the cars I get bored so I started chopping and painting more. This is how she sits now and I have owned it for about 6 weeks now.

What does your dash pod look like?  Are you planning on changing it or the headlights at all?

I've got an extra FJ in pieces, if I ever get some money I want to change it into a streetfighter and the dream would be to get the dash cluster off of the new FZ-9.

Well I mean I like the street fighter style of the headlight but up against the big body and motor of the FJ it looks a little odd. I am in the process of finding a front fairing or windshield to help fill up the front end a little bit more. I am also a carbon fiber nut and I found a carbon fiber windscreen that I wish I could buy. Randy has my carbs and thats eating up my money atm but being able to ride the bike vs it looking cool lol I would rather ride it at least. The gauge I am using is this one its small and gives me all the info I need and cleaned up a lot of the wiring and whatnot.

Yeah man, a long way to go but I think she is starting to come together and really having a unique and custom look. If anyone has any other ideas throw them at me. I would like to get the belly pan and maybe the factory air scoops back on the sides. I have a windshield on the way so we will see if I can make some brackets and get it mounted and see how it looks.

Haven't heard anything about this project in a while.  How's it going?

You might try a large round headlight - like the 8" from the old Yamaha XJ650 Seca. I think the XV920 Virago also used the same one.
