Leaking petcock, o-ring will not seal

As Kyle stated, it is taking a risk to leave the petcock in the "PRI" while you are not riding, parked. If you need it to get from point A to point B then it should not be a problem. While I was having fuel delivery issues and stalled by the road side I pulled the seat and side panel and switched to "PRI" to see if that helped. But when I got home I switched it back to shut off any unplanned fuel flow. A bit of a pain to do if you need you bike for commuting, but it can be done till you fix the issue.
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I think I found the reason for the leaking. It is the o-ring seal that seals the turning dial. When the dial is on Pri there is no leak. When the knob is at On the fuel leaks from the shut off. My vacuum shut-off looks like working ok.

Any idea where I could get this seal?

THERE IS NO REBUILD KIT! MWAHAHAHA.

The '86 doesn't have a turnable dial, so I don't know if your piece is a custom shaped rubber piece like most have or just on O ring.

If it's an O ring, try a hardware store with the petcock and the old one in tow.

If it's a custom shaped piece... I know a guy once took a tire inner tube and very carefully cut out a replica. Gave him faithful service until last I checked. YMMV. Go see the video on the petcock page I list, http://fjowners.wikidot.com/petcock, and watch the video to get an idea of the innards and the process.

Not everyone understands what a completely rational process this maintenance of a motorcycle is. They think it's some kind of a knack or some kind of affinity for machines in operation. They are right, but the knack is almost purely a process of reason.

There is a Kawi petcock rebuild kit that works, I don't recall the bike or PN. Might find it searching this site, maybe in the files section....

Interesting, but who is this?

The pictures are of generic petcock rebuild kits. None of them looks right to me.

I'm tempted to try it myself.

The kawa part numbers for spring and O-ring are listed on the wikidot (http://www.fjowners.wikidot.com/petcock).
