Can anyone give me a approximate rpm their fj 1200 is turning at a indicated 55mph. Trying to figure out if mine has had a sprocket change, seems to be geared pretty low compared to other bikes I've ridden.

Start by telling us what year your FJ is.
Different years were geared differently.

We can go from there.

For instance, my 1200 has 17/39 sprockets, and effie the 1100 has 18/38, is yours still running standard gearing,  17Front / 40 41 42 rear,  , somewhere close to standard gearing is around 3,800/4,100 at 100 kmh
unless you ride bikes, I mean really ride bikes, then you just won't get it

84 Fj1100  effie , with mods
( 88 ) Fj 1200  fairly standard , + blue spots
84 Fj1100 absolutely stock standard, now more stock , fitted with Fj12 twin system , no rusted headers for this felicity jayne

Count the number of teeth on your back sprocket, look at the size of your back tire, assume you have a 17 tooth front counter sprocket, then go here and look up the appropriate table: http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=669.0

The bike is a 1989.

Mine is an '89 with  18/38 sprockets.

55mph = 2900 rpm in 5th

55mph = 3600 rpm in 4th gear.

68mph = 3500 rpm in 5th.

All speeds are what is indicated on the speedo.

I just checked mine on the way home from work today.......

55mph indicated by the FJ speedometer in 5th gear= 3000rpms

55mph actual(according to GPS) in 5th gear = 3500rpms

I have a '90 with 180/55-17 rear tire, and 18/42 gearing.

Funny, the only one I can remember is 5,000 at 80mph on speedo...   :dance2:

Frank, Frank, Frank, don't you ever go 55?

Like, when you have to slow down and go thru a school zone?
