Stickiest tires? FJ1100.

DNG here,

Bought an FJ a few years back, and WOW!     :good2:    umm, . . . Anyway, got a set of Pirelli Match MT80 tires for it.  I'm about halfway through the tread-life now, and I'm starting to look at tires.  The wheels are stock (yeah, I know . . .) so I need a 120/80-VR16 front, and a 150/80-VR16 rear.  Searched though the archives here, but did not find a good answer.  My main plan here is to get the stickiest tires that I can, for my 1985.  Roads and car drivers here are not the best, so things like long tread life must take a back seat to things like braking and handling.  I see lots of good stuff about Avon, but then I find there are six flavors of Avon, so I'm still wandering in the dark.  Any advice on the best sticky tires for my ride would be appreciated.  I have no preferences now, but I know the stock wheels will limit my choices.  Thanks.
Cheers,
Red

P.S. Life is too short, and health is too valuable, to ride on cheap parade-duty tires.

Bias-ply/sticky rubber is really not much in the tire manufacturers vocabulary. You best bet is to do the common wheel/fork mods to use modern 17" radial tires.

I'm not the fastest FJ rider, I am 'half-fast', the fastest slow guy....

I have a 86 and I am running the Avon Azaro tires and find them to be pretty dam good. If you look around you can find them at a pretty reasonable price. Big R

+1 on the Azaros. Bought them at motorcycle superstore for a good price.
I like Michelin Road pilot 3s for 17 inch rims

This was my first set of AVON AV45/46 http://www.fjowners.com/index.php?topic=287.msg2088#msg2088, I would still be on them if I had not upgraded to 17"....
The glass is not half full, it was engineered with a 2X safety factor.

I had those same style Avons when I first got my FJ.  Did some exhaust scraping at 70+ when I had them, I don't quite ride like that anymore.

:hi: For the first time in many years of running Avon tires on my various bikes, I decided over the winter to go for a set of Pirelli Sport Demon's for my '85 FJ 16" rims... and I have to admit, that up to this point in time, I'm very happy with the ride/feel/handling/grip, etc of the Pirelli's :good2:

John.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in an attractive & well preserved body...but rather to slide in sideways, body completely worn out and and with your last dying breath screaming, "HOOOYA LIFE, lets try that again"!!!

SanDimas Mike seems to like his Demons, even the tires...
