Hypothetical Cali Emissions removal question

So, hypothetically speaking, I have a friend who has a CA emissions FJ that isn't in Cali anymore. And he's hypothetically thinking of removing the CA emissions stuff, which we wouldn't do in real life because it would violate EPA law and we all know that the NSA is reading this post.
But is it hypothetically worth it to remove the CA emissions stuff and does it make any difference? Hypothetically speaking.

The owner of the vehicle can pretty much do anything they want. The laws only affect professional mechanics working on customer vehicles.....

I'm not sure that's correct. I though the emissions laws applied to everyone.

Which equipment are you hypothetically talking about?
You have three flavors to choose from:
1) gas tank vapor recovery system
2) crankcase venting to air box
3) ignition vacuum advance

Removal of the above makes no difference in the bike's performance, so I say leave it alone.
(Unless you remove your oem air box and install UniPods, then #2 has gotta go)

Hypothetically speaking

3) Replace your old stock rubber brake lines.

I guess I was hypothetically speaking of #1. But if it makes no difference in how it runs I'll tell my friend to leave it alone.

Uh, how about weight savings?  I can feel the difference between the Yuasa and Shorai batteries in my GSX-R -I did not think I would, but I can.  Conservatively, that charcoal canister weighs as much as the difference between the two batteries, albeit a bit lower (closer to the roll axis) on the bike. I think I would remove it out of principle, but that's me.

That said, I discovered my CBR1000F had this equipment fitted and I never removed it, despite it making it impossible to remove the oil filter without removing some fairings.  I did look for help in doing it but the on-line community for that bike is fairly meager.  Never found the information I was looking for and it stayed on the bike until I sold it.  Had I kept it though...

As an aside, you folks really should value the brain trust that is here.  some of the smartest people I know are on this forum.

Well, I can say that "hypothetically" my bike runs just fine with the canisters removed and the front fuel tank port open. The connector that goes to the vacuum selenoid on the carbs is just dangling with no issues. (I'm runing FCRs) I do have the vacuum port for the ignition advance hooked up though.

Did you mean TMR's? How do they feel? With a 1/4 turn throttle, I'll bet they are a bit quick to light the fuse.

and the front fuel tank port open.
Might want to run a hose from that to control the small amount of gas that may flow out, a tip I got from Randy after I told him I pulled the hose off and left it open. Control where the gas goes if it pukes any out....

How about just plug it off?

According to Randy (RPM) that port needs to vent and some gas can come out so run the hose away from the engine.

I have a vacuum cap over the port. Seems to be fine so far....

I did as well till I took it off at the WCR, then discovered I re-assembled my gas cap wrong during the Flapectomy... Maybe I can plug mine back up...
