Hi Noel, I see you have the Delkevic slip on's on your bike, Im looking at getting the 9" can's without the baffles, is that the ones you had on your bike, in the pic it looks like the 14" pipes where you can remove the baffles.
How loud are the 14" with the baffles taken out and did you have to re jet your carbs? do you also have the 9" pipes?

Jim, I worded that first post poorly. I don't and never have had the stubby's but I have heard them. they sound great when you fire it up and give it a rev but I think the novelty would ware thin if you  rode it any distance and were ringing it out.

My 14" with the baffles out are pretty loud at revs under load, but not enough to draw unwarranted attention around town, unless I open it up.

Depends what sort of riding you do. I do 600km + day rides and find it unobtrusive at cruise but angry when you open it up. Any louder and I would be sick of it by the end of the day.
I've never had anyone ride my bike past me but from the riders seat it is louder than most of the 4 into 1 systems on other bikes I have ridden. For me, it is exactly how I want it and I do like a good sounding exhaust. Difficult to put into words. Like trying to describe how hot a curry is.

I did the unipod filters at the same time and I did re jet it. Without the baffles the exhaust is straight through.

I think if it was any louder, at mid to high revs at WOT you would be drawing a lot of attention to yourself, and not all from admirers!

Thxs Noel, that helps me out, I don't do those long distance riding any more and I do love loud sweet sounding bike, I'll have to give it little thought but I tend to be leaning towards the stubbies.
Do you remember what size main jets you put in and did you change the needle position at all or did you keep the on the 3rd groove? better yet how did you set up ur carb's if you remember.

Jim

Any word on the mufflers or can's from RPM ???

Noel

Noel, I noticed you removed the rear pegs, was this a personal choice thing or do the delkevics interfere somehow?

Cheers

Mike
A life has been well lived, if you have planted trees under who's shade you do not expect to sit.

I'm told I'm cynical, pessimistic and generally miserable. I say that I'm realistic! The fact that reality sucks is not my fault!

Mike, that is entirely coincidence, I had just fitted a new chain and couldn't find my chain tool. In the absence of said tool, the best way I have found over the years to get an even spread on the head of the joining link pin is to stick a ball bearing on the pin with some grease and hit it with a hammer. Gives a perfectly uniform spread. I could not find a ball bearing the appropriate size so used the one from the foot peg. For those that have never pulled one apart, a spring loaded ball is what locks it the upright position.
There was no urgency to refit it as I don't take pillions. It is refitted now though and has nothing to do with the exhaust.

Mike, if you don't do long rides anymore, the stubbies would sound great cruising around, but I think you will find where you can use the top half of the tacho with full throttle will be limited by sheer noise. Even with mine I feel somewhat constrained as to where I can open it up.

What the hell, just buy the stubbies and see how you like them. If you find them too loud, drop and few dollars and sell them on ebay.

Those are really big!

What's that rear caliper bracket you have on there?  FZR wheel yes?

They're not THAT big.

This is big.

That is a '94-96 FZR600R wheel and caliper.

Noel
if you think that is big, fast forward to 2:12 on this video.... haha

Got my new can's, had them about a week now and love the sound, yep their loud
just they way I wanted them to be, they even included the baffels which weren't suppose to come with them.
How loud are the can's, no louder then a yosh 4 into 1 on a on a GSXR 1100

Have you had these at full throttle between 5000 - 9000 rpm yet?
