84 main needle identification before I buy pods

Just want to know if this is the stock needle in my carbs on a 1984 FJ1100. And if so I am assuming they are not adjustable.
From poking a finger in there I am guessing it's almost a half inch between that plate and the bottom of the slide.

That being the case, should I plan on getting adjustable needles to go along with buying the UNI dual pods? Any alternatives to suggest to have good running with the pods?
My exhaust is stock. The carbs are stock.

The plate is supposed to sit on the bottom of the slide. If it is raised up 1/2" then something is holding it up there.

You need to pull them apart and see what you have in there spacing the plate up. You can then shoot a picture of the needle and read the number on it as well to determine what you might have there.

This needle deal might explain the running problem you talk about in the "float height topic" earlier.

Thanks Randy. The bike was running fine last year so I am not suspecting the needles, but I am getting tired of fighting the air box and want pods. I saw an installed pair today - nice.

I would be afraid to go at those little screws on the plate with a Phillips because if they are JIS I may only get one try. I'd like to find a source of a JIS assortment for that reason.

Oh , as side note, the picture does not show all the fasteners, just a small portion. Randy, fix that picture so your customers see how extensive your kit is.
