Cleaning Chains, the Fluffer King way.

This is how Fluffy likes to clean his chain, put bike on stand, start engine, put it in gear, have at greasy chain with oily rag.
What could go wrong?

He lies...I do NOT clean my chain that way.  That is how I LUBE my chain...no fingers involved!

I guess we need to make a disclaimed to newbies about cleaning your chain.  "Do it neutral, and with motor off, same goes for oiling the chain, you never know when the chain will get hungry and just eat whatever it can sink it's teeth into."

That just sends shivers up my spine!!!  Back in the 80's I thought I'd be clever & I tried that very thing!  I had my GS1100E up on the center stand, engine running, but the bike in NEUTRAL.  The oil was cool and thick enough to make the rear wheel turn.  I was doing the oil soaked rag on the moving chain technique when all of a sudden the rear sprocket caught the rag AND MY HAND!  The fingers on my right hand got jammed between the chain and rear sprocket - WHICH PROVIDED JUST ENOUGH FRICTION TO STOP THE WHEEL FROM TURNING.  I paniced and with my right hand still caught in the sprocket, reached over and tugged UP on the shifter to "put it in neutral" - not realizing IT WAS IN NEUTRAL!  Fortunately, I didn't tug very hard, I looked up at the instrument cluster, saw the GREEN neutral light then rolled the wheel in reverse and freed my hand.  My fingernails were a little crushed, but I've always wondered what would have happened had I tugged just a little harder, popped the transmission into gear and had the rear wheel actually turn under power.  NOW I KNOW!  Holy crap.
